Early on in my marriage my husband and I were coming to grips with an infertility diagnosis. Wanted a cute film to put on tv on a Friday night, and this had just come out on DVD. Neither one of us knew a thing about it. We had to pause the film after that opening so I could cry for half an hour. I’ll never forget it.
The theme music is so brilliant. It doesn't change keys, it doesn't do any sort of variation, its literally the same music but faster or slower. And with that you either feel happy or destroyed.
I hate to be that guy, especially since I 100% agree with you're statement of its brilliancy, but: F major 7, G major, C major is definitely changing chords. And For when it's meant to be sad, that chord progression is slightly altered: F major, A minor, F major, A diminished, so on. I don't want to sound demeaning, but that just kinda bugged me
BTW, Carl during and after the funeral wears the bow tie coz he can't tie a normal tie without Ellie. It breaks everything inside me every time I watch it.
the whole meaning of this story is letting go of the past and living in the present, the villain Charles Muntz is obsessed with the past and proving he was not a fraud that he spent his entire life looking for a bird and wasted his life to the point he became forgotten, while Carl was willing to let go of his past in the form of his house to save Russell and truly start living again, it a great movie i can watch endlessly
My husband and I had an Up themed wedding. We walked back up the aisle to the piano song “married life”. He wore the grape soda pin on his boutonniere and I had one on my bouquet and our cake topper was their two chairs. We really thought it captured signing up for the whole adventure together. I love how Carl always has some sort of balloon. When he’s a kid he carries one, Ellie sends him one on a stick, then he sells them at the zoo, he send Ellie one on a stick in the hospital, he has them on his house, and then at the end he has a blimp which is like a giant balloon lol

The bit with Ellie at the beginning makes me cry. U can tell they were truly in love and wanted to start a family 😫 so saddddd. Cant wait to see more attack on titan reactions ❤xx
That scene also makes me cry. Michael Giacchino is a musical genius when you think about it because in that scene they told the story of an entire marriage with no words, no dialogue. Just the score. And yet you felt all the ups and downs that they felt without words.
it broke my heart a little when you were talking about Carl bringing enough food to Paradise Falls because I'm pretty sure he was going there to die, which is pretty dark but that's always been my head canon. meeting Russell, Dug and Kevin literally gave him a new life and purpose so he could start a new adventure like Ellie always wanted. I adore this movie and as much as the beginning is super emotional, the part that always makes me tear up the most is when Carl gives Russell the Ellie badge at his Wilderness Explorer ceremony at the end. so freaking wholesome! oh and also: congrats on your NordVPN sponsorship! get that money! ❤️
22:54 Russel's "I don't want this anymore" says a lot about him. He's basically saying "I don't want to earn that "Assisting the Elderly" badge if it means helping you!", which is very meaningful, considering that he was hoping he would see his dad again at that ceremony. So he feels so strongly that helping Carl is bad, he's willing to give up his chance to reconnect with the person who means the most to him. That's powerful stuff.
Tbf these 15min are a masterpiece. I know Twilight bashing is fun and all, and the saga has issues, but it's not as bad as people make it to be, especially the last movies.
@@math9172 it really is tho. It’s not really about the movies. It’s just about the relationship between Bella and Edward in general are toxic as hell and I just hate Bella. Always have since the books came out. She’s a terrible person.
Michael Giacchino is a genius. His soundtrack for this movie is perfect( got an Oscar for it; Married life is one of the best music ever, gives us so much emotion. I remember showing my mom this first scene and when it ended she said " I can't believe i'm crying this hard over a children's movie" And all the others soundtrack he've done... The batman soundtrack is all i've been listening for the last 3 months. I swear hearing Batman's theme in the morning gets me hyped up for the rest of the day

My friends parents took a group of like 15 of us to see this in cinema for her birthday when we were like 12 and all of us were weeping at the start, not a dry eye in that theatre. Also that Ellie badge moment has me sobbing at the end, such an amazing film
"This piano sound track. It's tearing me up & not in the good way" 😂😂 I was just crying from the opening because it still gets me years later lol so I appreciate the laugh to bring it back!
My theory is that originally once Carl had landed at Paradise Falls, he was going to eat what food he had left, and then just...join Ellie. In a way, Russell saved his life.
Funny story, when I first saw this as a kid when it came out, I wear hearing aids and when ever his went off I panicked because I thought it was mine and my mum thought it was as well. “Hayley turn it off!” “I can’t!” 😂 even though he was way older then me and wears hearing aids because of age, it was nice to see a person with them in a film as a kid.
The first fifteen minutes is just gut wrenching. I’ve seen it like ten times and I still cry every time, but this movie is just magical. It’s a masterpiece
u are actually the only reaction youtuber i continued watching. Somehow i watched half of ur videos by this point lol. Idk why, but i guess i like ur humor or smth. Defenetly god tier reactions! How are u still under 100k :D
Me and my right out of college male friends went to see this movie at the theatre when it first came out. For several months afterward, we would say "squirrel!" whenever we saw a cute chick. Then we'd be like "where!", "2 oclock".
As if you needed it to be sadder - the actors that played Carl (Ed Asner) and Charles (Christopher Plummer) BOTH died last year. My wife and I saw this about 12 years ago when we were newly engaged, and the opening wrecked us. This does sum up getting older though, I'm 44, and I swear to god some mornings it feels like I was your age just yesterday. Make the most out of your 20s and 30s, they'll be gone in a blink. Cheers.
16:25 The three top dogs, Alpha, Beta, and Gamma, are a Doberman Pinscher, a Rottweiler, and an American Bulldog respectively. They were all historically bred to hunt, track, trap, or take down medium to large game or prey for their owners. They are good house pets with proper training and exercise because sometimes they can be high-strung if their energy isn't let out in a constructive way. They're also very intelligent. Sadly, as "hunting dogs" they have an undeserved negative reputation as being aggressive and dangerous. Most of Charles' dogs are hunting and tracking type breeds like these, and I think some American Bullies, Shepherds, Collies, and Pit Bulls from what I can see. ... And then there's Dug, a literal Golden Retriever with a sweet and lovable personality. (People who are naturally friendly/gregarious, gentle, and fun-loving are often described as "Golden Retrievers.") Goldies weren't bred so much for hunting prey as they were for swimming into shallow water and retrieving ducks and waterfowl their owners shot that fell into said water. Their job description is literally the game of fetch. And the grip of their mouth (Goldies and Labradors alike) is gentle enough that they can hold a raw egg in their mouth without breaking it. Anecdote time: I used to have an English Lab, D.J., who found a baby bird on our balcony bc it had fallen there from a nest in the awning. My mom followed him to the balcony when he found it, and to her alarm he picked up the hatchling, fitting it entirely inside his mouth... He brought it to her even though he was just a few feet away from her, and D.J. gently plopped the baby on our floor. It was a bit startled and wet from his slobber, but it was otherwise ok. We kept the baby safe and his mom came to our balcony to feed him in his little cardboard box nest every day until he got big enough to fly away with her. I still think about that bird, and about D.J., who passed away about 6 years ago.
This is my favorite Pixar movie and by my favorite Pixar director - Pete Docter (UP, Monsters, Inc., Inside Out, Soul). The creativity on this one is hard to match, and you gotta love the metaphors. We all know about the first 15 or so minutes of movie magic! One of my favorites is when Carl was emptying his house so he could go after Russell. The title of the soundtrack playing on that scene is "Memories Weigh You Down". I swear the metaphors on this film (on all of Docter's movies, actually!) are just golden. Loved it when he was looking at his house floating away towards the end.
BROOOO THIS MADE ME REALIZE SOMETHING!!! the evil dude never found the bird himself because he has dogs and the bird is attracted to chocolate, but chocolate is not something you want around if you have dogs
Great reaction, I love this film it's so emotional. Even in the broken up reaction format I still teared up about four times, even the most hard hearted person has trouble getting through the first ten minutes or so of this film without crying a little lol.
The beginning Szene is an emotional rollercoaster and brilliantly made. Introducing likable characters with understandable hopes and motives that quickly, I have never seen a movie doing it that way.
"Up" is one of the best Disney movies ever, period. The emotions, the characters, the visuals, the story, even the villains, they are all so damn well made it is astonishing.
Seb: *Watches a movie* Also Seb: * mentions Chris Evans in any chance he gets* Also, fun fact. The reason why Charles hadn't been able to find Kevin until Carl and Russell, was because most of his dogs are breeds of guard dogs, while Dug is a Golden Retriever which is a breed of a tracker dog.
The first part of this great film, is an emotional endurance test. And according to Google: Pixar estimated it would take 23.5 million balloons to lift a 1,800 square foot house. Pixar used 20,622 balloons in the animation of the lift off and 10,297 balloons from the floating sequences.
It amazes me that the composer of this soundtrack is also the same composer who just did the new "The Batman" movie. 2 drastically different soundtracks but both are so beautiful
I love this movie so much. The beginning is so heart-wrenching but the movie is awesomely heartwarming Also RIP Edward Asner the voice of Carl who passed away last year
You know a movie is good when each time you watch it you still have to pause to sob for a second and then continue the film. The soundtrack and scenes hit so hard even with cut footage from reactions you still feel the full impact
So here’s the thing about the start of the movie: Carl doesn’t have any lines. Ellie does all the talking. Everything we know about him comes from what we see of his interactions with Ellie. Then the movie really starts and we meet a grumpy old man. I think it’s really interesting that we don’t actually meet Carl until after her death. It’s like we didn’t really witness his life beforehand, we really only meet grumpy old man Carl.
I remember watching this movie in theaters when I was a kid with my mom, and crying and screaming during the movie cuz it was too loud 🤣🤣 This movie is one of the greatest Disney animated movies of all time imo... A great balance of all the emotions and elements of a film
I went to a double feature at the drive-in and I was really only interested in seeing the second film. Up was the first film and I was so blown away by it! Definitely cried my eyes out over that opening! I don't even recall what the second film was now!
The real house that the film is based on still stands about 2 blocks away from mine. It's become a small attraction and people still bring balloons and tie them to the fence.
Do I know why he has never seen all of these movies? Hell no, no clue. But every Seb smile is just a thing to be appreciated. It makes any day/night better.
I remember watching this movie in theatres and everyone an i mean everyone including fully adult men crying and sobbing at the start...i remember someone yelling "Damn It...Why" at the end of opening and everyone laughing and crying at that
Amazing reaction =D I love how you let your own innocence on the front row without filter I really appreciate it and love seeing men freely acknowledging and reflecting their emotions, in today's society Lots of support from me to you, please carry on 🥰
There is a theory that this was actually just Carl’s journey to heavan. Dug and Kevin were spirit animals and Russel served as his gaurdian angel P.S. Dug is a very good dog
Hi. Great reaction. I love Ed Asner. He was wonderful as Mr. Grant, the grumpy boss at the television station on the Mary Tyler Moore Show. I recommend that you watch Mary’s interview from episode 1. It’s so funny.
Up is the best animated movie ever made in my opinion. It doesn’t have super crazy visuals but the emotion and the story behind it is an absolute masterpiece of a film.
This film is good on so many levels. One of which you could see it as the actual film is just the first 10 mins, and the rest is therapy for those 10 mins. :P
"Do you rewatch it every year?" Then I would have to rewatch every pixar film every year because they are all so good and I wouldn't be able to make up my mind. So yeah. The answer is between Halloween and Christmas.
I have so many good memories of this movie, especially since I first watched it with my whole family and cousins and that we all could identify to the characters.
few months before the movie was released, here in Brazil, a Priest tried to made a long distance flight with baloons, in the middle of the way he was caught by a storm just like in the movie. Of course he died and his body was found really far from where his journey started. Pixar had a problem to merchandising the movie around here and the priest won a Darwin Award.
The best comment about this movie from people: "Watched this at the cinema with my wife , all the kids were eating popcorn all the adults were in tears including me." yea, including me
I know this is an older video, but I've only recently found your channel. A quick, cute tid bit about the end of the movie that I always found amusing: When they're eating ice cream and watching for cars at the end, Doug calls out a gray car, as people used to think dogs were colorblind, and could only see in black and white.
25:38 this part killed me along with you sea 😂🤣😄 lmao let’s do it staring while looking at Russell I love he looks at him not moving like a state only his eyes moving that’s what my fav part of this film
Fun fact: Paradise Falls is a real place. It is inspired by Venezuela's falls "El Salto del Ángel" ("The Angel's Jump"), a real fall that is located in the South of Venezuela (i actually live near there lol) in the "Canaima's National Park". It is the biggest fall of the world and the Canaima's National Park was named patrimun of the humanity by the UNESCO. Actually, the animators and team of the movie in general, had to visited the place to have the right ideas for the animation and script of the movie. They did such an amazing job!

Unrelated but your uploads make my day even when I’m in a bad mood🙏🏽keep grinding seb
You know a movie is good when each time you watch it you still have to pause to sob for a second and then continue the film.
The soundtrack and scenes hit so hard even with cut footage from reactions you still feel the full impact
I just love how Pixar can make the most ridiculous things be so memorable. I do also know how they can tuck at your heart strings for sure.
3:50 could not have been timed better🤣
Those first minutes makes you forget that you're watching a "children's movie" real quick! 😢
They plucked every heartstring in the opening.
So here’s the thing about the start of the movie:
Carl doesn’t have any lines.
I'm not crying...definitely not crying......might be crying.....
That openeing sequence and the music is just iconic. Beautiful and so sad.
The end when Carl shows up in place of Russels das and give him a “special badge”-I SOBBBB
24:00 I really appriciate stuff like this where you dim the sound of the movie a little where it would've made quite a loud noise, good on you Seb
Do I know why he has never seen all of these movies? Hell no, no clue. But every Seb smile is just a thing to be appreciated. It makes any day/night better.
One of my favorites 🥺
Great reaction as always!
I remember watching this movie in theatres and everyone an i mean everyone including fully adult men crying and sobbing at the start...i remember someone yelling "Damn It...Why" at the end of opening and everyone laughing and crying at that
The incredible Sulk 🤣🤣🤣🤣 big sulker here too 🤦😆
Amazing reaction =D I love how you let your own innocence on the front row without filter I really appreciate it and love seeing men freely acknowledging and reflecting their emotions, in today's society Lots of support from me to you, please carry on 🥰
“Is his name Cain?”
9:11 „This piano soundtrack is just tarring me open, not in the good way“
Excuse me sir?? 😳
I discover your Chanel a few days ago, I love your reactions, this oye specially since it's one of my favorite movie, greetings from Chile 🇨🇱
There is a theory that this was actually just Carl’s journey to heavan. Dug and Kevin were spirit animals and Russel served as his gaurdian angel
P.S.
Dug is a very good dog
Hi. Great reaction. I love Ed Asner. He was wonderful as Mr. Grant, the grumpy boss at the television station on the Mary Tyler Moore Show. I recommend that you watch Mary’s interview from episode 1. It’s so funny.
"Tearing me open not in a good way"
I'm dead!!! 😂😂😂🤭🤭
Up is the best animated movie ever made in my opinion. It doesn’t have super crazy visuals but the emotion and the story behind it is an absolute masterpiece of a film.
This is my one of the best childhood film.
Even now, it never fails a 23 year old man to cry.
i DIED LAUGHING "CANE AND ELLIE" LMAO i feel oooollddd... kids these days dont know how to read cursive xDD
This film is good on so many levels. One of which you could see it as the actual film is just the first 10 mins, and the rest is therapy for those 10 mins. :P
Awwww I've seen the opening 5 minutes and it almost BROKE ME! Sending hugs!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤
"Do you rewatch it every year?"
Then I would have to rewatch every pixar film every year because they are all so good and I wouldn't be able to make up my mind.
So yeah. The answer is between Halloween and Christmas.
I have so many good memories of this movie, especially since I first watched it with my whole family and cousins and that we all could identify to the characters.
RIP Ed Asner (1929-2021) and Christopher Plummer (1929-2021), the voices of Carl and Charles Muntz
What a nice reaction! Glad I found your channel
The opening of this movie is probably the hardest I have ever cried at an animated movie
few months before the movie was released, here in Brazil, a Priest tried to made a long distance flight with baloons, in the middle of the way he was caught by a storm just like in the movie. Of course he died and his body was found really far from where his journey started.
Pixar had a problem to merchandising the movie around here and the priest won a Darwin Award.
I cry every time I watch it. What a fantastic film!
25:38 this part killed me along with you sea 😂🤣😄 lmao let’s do it staring while looking at Russell I love he looks at him not moving like a state only his eyes moving that’s what my fav part of this film
you absolutely have to watch soul! I love your reactions, makes me feel like I'm watching these films again through you.
I remember watching this when it came out and I was just little. I was so sad in the beginning 😭 It’s still one of my favorites nonetheless
MY FAVE MOVIEEEEE YAYAYAY, THANKS FOR REACTING!
