USnUK prefers capitalism, they love celebs, they love paying over the odds for feeling freedom and democracy, they just love propaganda and rhetoric, the west hates communism, they hate community, they hate govt that serves the people, the west loves govt that serves corporations. It's all about choices and we must defend their rights to freedom and democracy and to embrace capitalism, so long as they don't spread it around!
To some extent, I agree about your point about looking to the past/future. Then again, one might say that the Chinese are looking forward to the return of how it was before these last 300 or so years when China mattered the most.

But then since he is qualified to receive the scholarship from China, he then can study for his Ph.D. in China as he is currently doing. As viewed from here, Luke is apparently a person with open mind and willingness to learn and explore, which all enables him to be able to become aware of, acknowledge, and then recognize what is true and what is false as to China on pertinent issues and matters, and then deploy his talent in what he seeks to achieve in China. That helps a great deal, I'd wage.

Scotland is beautiful but, 70% of the time it is cold... as for China, you can go south if the weather in the north gets cold. Interesting landscape from Harbin, to Shandong, to Kunming, to Tibet , to Guangdong, Hongkong, Nanning ...you won't be bored.
Though UK has more and more problems, I still enjoyed a walk around neighbourhood, hello and smile with incoming strangers. They are still doing that, better than US. Of course, what you said is true, China has lots of advanced facilities now, and quality of people is improving too. It will take time that more and more people will speak some English and behave better as well.

I suspect the problem with the UK government/local councils is they are staffed by not very intelligent or efficient officials. As a result, funds are being wasted. Just look at the proposed HSR, how many years has it been in the "Planning" stage?? And have you noticed how depressing and dirty Victoria Station and all the Underground stations are? I wonder when was the last time they have been cleaned?

In any case, there is more evidence of the US/UK harrasing journalists (e.g., from RT, journalists reporting on the Gaza genocide) and UN investigations (e.g., of war crimes by American citizens) than there is of such conduct in China. Both kinds of objectivity are needed. It's the same as objectivity in science and any other field of inquiry. We can also use the Rawlsian "veil of ignorance", looking at the world without knowing in advance which role we find ourselves in. Try it!
