Had the privilege of meeting some of the pilots and rescue swimmers on a visit to Whitby Island with cadets just recently. They are great men. Cheers chaps. From canada
I was up there seeing my brother off to his deployment a few weeks ago. The name Hazelton ring a bell? Really hope I can end up doing what you do some day. Aircrew SAR looks amazing.
it quite a thrill and fun job did this 22 years ago, for 16 years. two tours at Whidbey Island ,Fallon NV, And aboard the USS Midway, USS Tawara LPH, USS New Orleans LHA. Best job I ever did.
Made it! Not at station SAR cause thats a shore duty. Its a neat job, but nothing like what is shown here. Sea Duty is pretty much all about being a gunner, doing utility missions, and standing by for a jet to eject.
My respect to Navy SAR, but if you really want your main mission in life, 24/7/365, to save lives, you join the Coast Guard. I know, Coast Guard vet. 76-80, SAR Station Oregon Inlet, 309 SAR missions completed, 97 lives saved.

Is whidbey a hard billet to get for air rescue? I'm from WA and trying to cross rate to rescue swimmer. It'd be an absolute dream to be back home as an AIRR.
Sorry for being super late on the response. But to get billeted here, you just have to make it known this is where you want to come and hopefully theres a billet open. Its all about the right time and putting it out there that this billet is what you want.

Great video! My dad was a SAR pilot and OPS officer at NAS Whidbey in the 80's.
