    one of my favourite LMS locomotives I'm so glad Hornby didn't disappoint with this one great review as always sam hop to see more of this model in the future
    p.s i think some of the quality errors are just transport handling (apart from the glue marks that's factory error) and i prefer the pony truck to be articulated

    Hi Same, I'm looking into possibly purchasing one of these, so viewed your review.
    You mentioned the motor mounting issue. Is that adhesive pad on both sides of the motor, or should that pad you indicate on the top really be on the bottom, thus ensuring the gearing clears adequately?

    I live in America, and found a Hornby Princess Royal, R30001 on Amazon US. A bit pricey for me, at $230 (I didn't pay $25 for faster shipping lol - I might change that, but I dunno), and I'm really excited! Hi Sam, how are you? So.. I recently lost the nem socket on the tender of this model, it has been falling of ever since I got the model 🤔. Now I have lost it for good, I am not sure what to do, I live in Portugal so it might be a pain to get a replacement from hornby. Is there another way to get it, if not, can I get it from hornby at all? Thank you for the wonderful review anyway, keep up the good work, wait, this video came out a while ago, keep up the current good work!

    I got mine direct from Hornby and it came at the beginning of the week. I agree with the die-cast comment a bit more would have been nice, but as you say, the weight is good. I don't have glue marks on my loco so it could be a quality control thing?

    Hi Sam great review I have the Princess Margaret Rose in a set with the Royal carriages and a lovely HM 2000 controller lovely set from the early 2000 lovely detail , probably not quite the level of Princess Elizabeth but none the less a stunning model , yes you are right this was a beautiful class and I love the crimson LMS livery....stunning

    Still amazes me how much PSI the real things had, even more so than a Gresley A3. Slight more than even there upgraded counterparts, the Duchesses. Amazing video, though I may have commented on it already.

    Hello Sam. Thank you for the great video. I received my Princess Elizabeth yesterday, but there aren't any glue marks on it. My Hornby Terrier didn't have any glue marks, either. It seems odd that you would have had two bad experiences with glue marks. I wonder if any other of your viewers have experienced glue marks.

      It's a pleasure Charles - glad to hear yours were much better! Don't get me wrong - I've reviewed hundreds of Hornby models - the glue is rare - but it does turn up once or twice!

    Hey I had a weird loco question. I got an American steam loco and a coach from a train show and I was talking to a friend of mine about the possibility of putting some OO couples on them but I'm not sure how to do it. Should I get replacement Bachmann USA Thomas and Friends ones or like the couples from Bachmann UK?

    • @SamsTrains
      @SamsTrains  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      If they're NEM, it should be quite easy - you just need to buy the ones that fit! The Thomas and friends ones are harder, since they're screwed on!

    I had this one when i was a child in 1961 so i presume it was one of the first ones, mine had Smoke deflectors though and it was all metal in those days, i still have the Transformer kicking around. We had the real one come through Cornwall not too long ago, magic to see the full size version after all these years, we were even treated to a bit of wheel slip as it pulled out of the Station

    • @SamsTrains
      @SamsTrains  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      If it was metal, most likely you had a Hornby Dublo un-streamlined Coronation class - those were amazing machines! :D

    I just found out something really interesting. The fact that new hornby engines have flangeless and non pivoting back axles so actually to make them more realistic in a cool way. its trying to represent the Cartazzi axle, which is an axle that doesnt pivot but instead shifts from side to side in its axle boxes to accommodate tight curves. And, since model train tracks are much too tight for the wheel to actually work, they make them flangeless

  • @trainguy611
    @trainguy611 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I absolutely love the massive amount of detail on this engine, where they splashed a bit of glue in the boiler I think it’s because Hornby got some clumsy workers, the detail on the interior of the cab is very well done especially where the cab doors are positioned open as well as the firebox doors, the firebox glow is amazing as well, and can you paint one of your steam locomotives to make it look like it’s weathered with the coal dust, ashes and soot all over the locomotive where the running number is barely visible, the spring buffers on the front of locomotive where they stick, that I’m a bit disappointed on, I’m looking forward on seeing more reviews like this in the future, have a great weekend

    • @SamsTrains
      @SamsTrains  4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey Sam, Sorry about the glue marks, it looks like CA vapor on the rails, though the one on the boiler looks like a fingerprint. Did you ever try the vinegar trick to remove CA marks? I’d really like to hear if it helps on this one!

    • @Sideways101100

      LMS Crimson is agreeably a beautiful and elegant livery, one of my favourites. Just something about the blue sky of a summer day or the grey sky of a winter day, and then you see a beautiful red machine travel among it, it stands out enough for it to blend and fit into the scenery

    Hey Sam, my model came Thursday, all seems well and I'm very pleased with it. You could argue the price point for ever and a day however, they are not toys and are classed as luxury items and attract the higher price points, not sure what the answer to that is. To buy or not to buy?
