When I'm done with my renovation of leveling and re seeding project im picking one up for the next season. Will your promo still be available in the off season? Thanks!
@@ryanknorrlawncare thank you for getting back in touch with me I appreciate it. I won't be ready until next season but wanted to pick it up in the off season to tinker with it and learn the machine. By then I will have the money saved. Last question, (3 part) do you prefer the gas or electric? I was thinking electric because I do the lawn early in the morning but don't want to sacrifice power and how many blades do you have and would recommend. Thanks again!
Nice Ryan! I now like your channel more than the LCN's. You give good and simple advices, you show the work which is satisfying and esential to do, to make the lawn look its best. You're not trying to sell me anything, you don't show how to do tons of long mathematical calculation, you don't dump gallons of chemicals on your lawn... Just simple, manual work that always gives great results. Keep it up man!
I had to get under 2" before my lawn started thinning out. I pounded the lawn w/D-Thatch in June, so there wasn't much there for that. I scaled the lawn to 1 1/4" and overseeding w/bluegrass today. Lawn looks great, brother. Thanks for the great videos!
@@Jeff-ik3hn I put down Carbon-X two weeks ago to get some slow release into the lawn (working against myself w/the fast release though). I'm going to use 9-0-1 GreeneStart today, then come back with Carbon-X in about 3-4 weeks. Total will be just over 1 lb. nitrogen plus plenty of micronutrients.
I used a thatch rake and spent about 150 hours this winter doing my lawn. I am on furlough and wanted to see what a dethatched lawn looks like with nothing but grit, sweat and a wheel barrow. I am amazed how much matting and dead grass and weeds and pine needles and other Detrirus is in the grass itself. I went over the grass in 5x5 foot areas, first north to south and second rake, east to west. After the entire lawn was done, i skimmed the entire law with the rake to catch any misses. Your back yard looks so much better now. A shorter lawn just seems to look neater. There is something so satisfying when dethatching and seeing all that junk come out. It's going to look so good in a few weeks 👍
The ending part was so peaceful! Your lawn is looking great! Cutting shorter made a huge difference. The vegetable garden is going to love that extra organic matter :)
Something so satisfying when you see that dead grass material shoot out on top of the lawn. Side note, I bought the Sun Joe and it works a little better than the Greenworks.
Great video! I’ve read that spraying T-Nex about 5 days before your low mow, dethatch/aerate, and overseed with KBG works well to keep the existing grass at bay while your seed germinates.
Wow Ryan, I feel like you can see my lawn. Mines does the very same thing, beautiful in the spring and looks kinda crappy in the summer. It lays down in areas and is thick and dense in others. I get fungus because of this ,I think, I dethatch and thin the yard but stupidly I think I over seed too much and this makes the grass bunch up. I'll try your way this fall. Great video, keep'em coming
same lawn , issues . here is what i have been working on and my plan: 1. dethatch , remove lawn debris 2. aerate 3. over seed 4. cut grass shorter to eliminate folding over , excessive wet condition 5. next year use preventive pro fungicide .
Dethatching and aerating and overseeing my lawn for the first ever tomorrow hopefully I helps bring in beautiful grass this summer or next year grass looks terrible
I aerated and dethatched my lawn using brinly brand that hooks up to the back of my ride on mower. The aerator worked pretty well with weight on it. Plan to begin overseeding and fertilizing. Hoping to bring the lawn back to life for the fall
Man, that swardman is a beaut! I just picked up a manual reel mower this week from FB marketplace for $20, going to try to keep it reel low for the rest of the year and into next year and see how she does. This new kbg I seeded with supposedly does fine down to an inch.
Inspired me to try to dethatch my Zeon Zyosia since it look like yours as to the brown color inside the thick grass. Was toying with the idea of watering more but after checking the clay soil and finding it still moist, I was thinking it might be fungus due to the clippings building up. This is about the two year mark after I did a total redo on my lawn. Too bad I didn't find all these channels dedicated to grass. Would've have saved time and grief. Since it was a rough go with the grass plugs method, might try seeding with a different grass after watching you and your buddy Connor having great results!
Those spring tine cassettes rock you should core aerate then use the spring tine collects the lot. seed then use that grooming brush to brush the seed in fert then water
Ryan, I have been very impressed with your knowledge of lawn work! I'm a lawn guy. I live in the Kansas City area where we have brutally hot humid summers and extremely cold winters. My yard is about half KY bluegrass and half fescue. I have always mowed extremely tall (3.5" to 4" ) in the heat of summer to help the grass shade the roots from the extreme sun. The bluegrass will just fry in the sun otherwise. A couple questions: 1. You mow extremely short... is there a reason? 2. How do you keep it from burning up? Yes, I have an irrigation system and I water about 1/2" three to four times a week. THANKS! Bill
A tough day for sure, i spent 7 hours doing the same on the ~8000sqft closest to the house last weekend. Mainly rye/fescue so over seeded but no rain this week. I can irrigate some but not all of it.
10-14 days? I hear from other TH-camrs that we have to wait 4 weeks? i'm afraid with 10-14 days i'll pull the new roots out? what do you think? I just overseeded my existing lawn. great video Ryan! keep it up!
Hi Ryan, I was wondering if you’ve found any difference in performance between the gas powered Swardman and the Swardman Electra. My lawn is half an acre so range anxiety isn’t a problem for me, just performance and the idea of less noise, no emissions and less maintenance is preferable to me.
You definitely can. I don't think I am going to be this year as I don't see any major compaction issues. I will probably use a little liquid and keep going on humic acid
I get similar weather as you about 1 week later (in PA) but I'm holding off until mid September to do my dethatch and overseeding. Going with Seedsuperstore SS5000 mix of Bluegrass, Rye, and Fescue. How often/how long do you water for after overseeding?
All depends on how much sun it gets etc but every few hours 5 minutes at or so...always enough to keep it from drying out but not too much where you're drowning the seed
That swardman is really interesting. Never seen that kind of dethatcher before.. was considering buying one to pull behind the riding mower but don't think it would work as well as the swardman appears to..
