The Nokia 7710 was also the first touchscreen phone to be able to make use of Satellite navigation, this was started in Italy. What do you guys think of the Nokia 7710? Do you own one? Let me know down below!
Cool! It was not totally forgotten and some were actually manufactured. I was so proud of being a part of the team that made this thing. My first large scale software integration project. I was a bit bummed that we couldn't make it good enough to be revolutionary. I have actually only seen one live in the wild. At least that single person told me he loved it =)
@@aapkimomOne of my most intersting experiences ever. It was kinda DIY internal project. We had a bunch of SW integrators, access to all the software in the internal repos but no access to developer time because of priorities. Once the management was about to drop video recording and playback capability, because we couldn't stream data fast enough. I pulled an allnighter and managed to find DMA configuration that worked with the kernel, the video software and the framework version. The next day I was super excited to show my boss that we actually can stream video fast enough. It was ugly as heck, because I basically borrowed components from 3 different products to make it work.
I’d like to see a HMD Global reboot one of the more niche Nokia devices like this. Or a Communicator running KiaOS. We’ve had enough candy bars and flips now. It’ll never happen but I’d buy one!
Well I have to say, currently you can get a well-looking "refurbished" one from China, play with for a while then put into your collection. No one can tell how the refurbish was done, what parts were used, fake or old parts from electric trash. Or you could purchase a non-refurbished one with triple+ price tag, mostly in terrible cosmetic condition, partially working or not working, from a probably non-china seller. Consider it not a so rare device and not that expensive, having some compromises on the "refurbish process" but end up with a working toy, is more reasonable to me. Those devices are not as complicate as today's smartphones and if some people can restore it to a good condition with "fake parts", it is then considered a trustworthy 3rd-party repair. Without any further OEM support, this is the best solution IMO.
@@Techformative557 Oh I agree with that, I sort of just try to say: those parts are probably not fake but just from some old non-working devices. They were probably cleaned and resembled. It is quite easy to find lots of fake parts for modern devices like iPhone 13, 14 because there is a strong market need and factories are willing to create a line to manufacture them for profit. Nobody will or is able to "re-manufacture" some 20-plus-year-old-ish parts. Even if it is do-able, it is too expensive and too difficult without original design CAD files. (Except outer shells, but those are easy to identify. ) Another big issue, is that many US sellers are simply selling the same devices with potential "fake" parts as legit OEM-only device. They ask more but give you the same 💩. One way I did for some of my very-old-aging collections (if not possible to find a legit one), is to find a refurbished device, along with some "parts only" non-working trash, and replace all suspicious parts with legit parts.
Thats a dead pixel cluster..the ribbon section that supplies power to that cluster of pixels has failed..in other cases the pixel cluster is damaged. But in this phone the power failed cause it happened gradually over time

its not about how it was done, personally I don't like fake parts in my collection devices. Its just a personal preference

Nokia 7710
I have one
That huge black spot looks really bad. Otherwise a beautiful phone.
Yeah at that age thats sadly common with these phones. Im currently looking for one without a spot for the full review video
@@Techformative557 is that some kind of screen burn-in?
