    This is really stupid, Old School will always win, why? Because a mint classic car will always be 100 times more interesting than modern cars, because you see 100 million 90's to 2000's Corvettes/Miatas on the road, when's the last time you see a split window corvette on your way to the groceries or a Thunderbird?

    1963 Corvette Split window all the way. The style it has is undeniable. The Z06 is cool, but as soon as the next generation comes out, the previouse generation becomes in a way, obsolete. Youll have to wait 50+ years for someone to appreciate it again, where as the stingray already stood the test of time, something that cant be said about other vettes.

    The c6 corvette is made of plastic and it looks like it. The interior is a bit bland, but at least the power is good. The 1963 Corvette is the greatest Corvette model year of all time, so how can they compare?

    • @Munkenba
      @Munkenba 10 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      ***** Wow, you can't say anything on the internet nowadays without some kid raging out because you have a different opinion. The body is not made of any sort of aluminium, that's the chassis. Carbon fibre is also a plastic composite. I've worked with the material before, the main constituents are carbon weave and plastic based resin, which is the only material that gives carbon fibre its solid quality. The interior is not leather, it's again a plastic based vinyl which simulates leather, and the rest is cheap plastic. And to answer your question, clearly you give a fuck if you went out of your way to reply with such an angry comment. Something to learn on the internet at your age is that using angry words in your comment doesn't make you any more intimidating on someone else's screen, "that just shows how stupid people like you are" to quote you perfectly.

    Lets be serious here. The Chevrolet Corvette from 1963 through 1979 was a muscle car, 1954 theough 1962, and 1980 through the present day, it is a sports car. Everyone (mostly) loves the muscle car version of the Chevrolet Corvette! Like this comment if you agree!

    • @michaelmontgomery2446
      @michaelmontgomery2446 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      No car with IRS will be a muscle car in the 60s, 70s, and 80s. The corvette was never a muscle car, just sounds like one, but outperforms in handing do to the IRS, the new ones are only getting more complex.

    • @zacharylagler242
      @zacharylagler242 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      very true, when Chevy brought the Vette back in '84 handling was increased significantly, I always laugh when motor trend compares the Vette to the Mustang as the Camaro is a direct competitor.

    • @CaptainFALKEN
      @CaptainFALKEN 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great comment, but I personally prefer a classier car all day. In this case for Corvette 1953-1982 all the way. I will say that 1978-1982 ESPECIALLY 1980-1982 are "IFFY" based on BODYWORK but would still take those years over ANY C4 vette, even the "ZR1"

    The nostalgic 63 split window coupe takes the cake. The Z06 is so much faster/maneuverable, there's no question about it the Z06 is the best. Perhaps in fifty years or so the Z06 will be looked upon as a classic. Which one do i like best? I can't choose.

    As much as i am a Corvette guy, I would definitely choose the 63 Split Window for numerous reasons and they are as stated below :
    1. The 63 is very popular and iconic that it started it all
    2. Better built than the Z06, You feel that you have a car built by high end materials against the plastic Z06
    3. As seen in the video how the 63 shakes when it idling just makes you feel you are riding a Muscle car
    4. And not mentioning how many very special options were available to the C2 like the Big Tank & the L88 & choose between a 3 or 4 speed which isn't available on today's Vette's feels a bit num.
    The Z06 :
    1. I do like it as well for its NA with 505 Hp and that exhaust note is very cool
    2. Love the rear fat tires
    3. And i also dig how wide it is with those muscular body lines
    4. Reasonably priced as well, But i hate the plastic interior and the rear bumper
    5. As much as its modern i would like to see some options at an extra cost to make it look more appealing and an example of which is to have the rear plastic diffuser in Carbon Fiber as well as the front splitter.
    6. I also like the fact the Z06 is nimble and closer to the ground but hey were in 2007 when it was released so you kinda understand.
    7. The only fact the is the best for the Z06 and i am sure everyone will agree on is that now that the C7/Z07 came out the Z06 is started to go down in prices were you can go and grab a beauty for almost less than half the original cost compared to the 63 Split window reaching 6 Figures !

    This the thing I dread as the cars we drool over today(Z06, ZL1, CTS-V, M3, M5, AMGs, GTRs, GT3s, 458s, etc.). What happens when all the CPU and software becomes obsolete? It's not like an older classic, where rebuilding a carb or replacing points on the dist is still an easy proposition. Time will make the way cars are built very different in the not so distant future. Technology will render many things obsolete in an older CPU controlled vehicle. Perhaps the future of classic car restorers will be making and refurbishing outdated CPUs for certain classics, leaving other not so collectible models out in the cold.

    • @pauljs75
      @pauljs75 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If an engine or powertrain is popular enough among enthusiasts, there's going to be an aftermarket for it. There are companies that make CPUs for fairly recent car engines, as the stock ones can't take much tuning. Something as common as the Chevy small block is likely one of the engines that'll be well supported in the future.
      As for reliability, electronics have no moving parts. Unless they have bad electrolytic capacitors inside (a big plague of it around 2000), there's likely nothing else to go bad with age. Provided there's no flood damage, some idiot miswiring stuff, or some idiot jump starting the car wrong, the CPU is likely to outlast mechanical parts of that car in terms of functioning as intended.

    • @pauljs75
      @pauljs75 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you can't find the ECU/CPU for an older car, it's possible to use something like MegaSquirt. The problem in that case has to do with state regulations regarding emissions, not one of getting the car to run.
      Maybe if we're lucky a future version of a "generic/tunable" ECU will support OBD-II or whatever standard will be current at the time?
      I suppose the only real problem remaining for electronics may be the BCU, particularly if you want to keep a car in stock form. Those things control dashboards, door chimes, factory stereo, power door locks, etc. and tend to be fairly specific to the model, trim level, and even certain RPO codes.

    I have a 2013 C6Z. I wouldn't trade it for anything else right now...except for maybe a McLaren 720p...The Z06 is super fast, extremely practical, and the parts prices are 1/3 to 1/5 that of a German car. For example, brake pads & rotors for all 4 wheels? About $700 delivered via RockAuto. AC condenser? $199 via the dealer.. New front rim (base Q10) is $520 with core return. Again, not cheap. But, compared to other 200 mph super cars? Very reasonable. And, I've got over 60K on mine and it's been, so far, as reliable as the best from Asia..Can't say enough good things about this car. It's totally underrated....imo...

    Sorry MT guys. When I think iconic Corvette, I think Z06. It's development comes directly from the C5-R and the C6-R that relentlessly won race after race so much so that no one wanted to race against them in the ALMS, and they were forced to drop down a level, just to find other cars to race against. The Z06 has better brakes, acceleration, handling, and more efficient. I do like the classic Stingray, but the ultimate iconic Corvette is the zed-ought-six (Z06).

    my question is on how many of the trolls on here commenting actually own a corvette? I grew up in the 4th gen I have a 4th gen. I love it, its a blast im sure the new Ferrari inspired ones are too I haven't driven one yet but each generation of cars brings a different feeling and excitement to drive. regulations have killed the styling of cars today that's a fact, but if corvettes suck so bad why is everyone using it as a benchmark to beat?

    i miss the days of tuning a car with a timing light, dwell meter and a screw driver. but my 2008 smart only needed 10 oil changes, 3 spark plugs and one air filter and no tune ups in 57K miles. got 50+ MPGs driving 14 miles in 40 minutes (crappy rush hour traffic) how any car can go a mile on a shot glass of gas is beyond me!

    As an owner of a 2007 Z06, I'm a *little* bias. But regardless of that, I always thought the C2 was kinda overrated. Sure, it looks good, but it doesn't look "sports car good". It doesn't look fast or nimble, like it wants you to hop in and do something stupidly fun. It looks more like it wants take a trip to the supermarket, then come back home for some more sunbathing. All show and no go. Sorry, that's just how I feel.
    Now if it was a 1969 Stingray, that would be a different story. Especially if it had the ZL1 package. As far as looks go, the C3 was definitely my favorite design, though the C7 runs a very close second.

    • @sfbassist
      @sfbassist 10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You gotta apply a little generational thinking. In 1963 Americans drove big, heavy, slow cars. The C2 was light, it had IRS, in 66' you could get disc brakes, and the Hi Po 327 was powerful for the period. Back then this was THE American canyon carver. It was this or you went to England or Italy and most people really didn't trust those care because they didn't know anything about them. Hell, some people thought IRS was stupid!

    • @05gtdriver
      @05gtdriver 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I agree with DH Bennett, you're looking at the C2 with 21st century eyes.
      It isn't about that the C6 lost even though it's a 100 times better in every performance category. It's because the C2 is truly legendary. The people who owned one back in the day, the men who raced them, the movies, TV shows and songs that showcased them. Any Corvette has a tough act to follow because the C2 was and still is the Corvette which made it into a world class competitor. It's the Corvette that started all the imagine enjoyed by the model today. as DH stated, 1st with IRS, 1st with 4 wheel disc, introduced big block power to consumers and was the 1st Corvette to offer hardtop or roadster versions. When Chevy got serious with making the Corvette a true world class sportscar and racing hero, the C2 was in the thick of it all. That's something that can never be taken away from it's legacy.

      Lol try to get parts for the 63 vette! I would own the 2007 and i would just buy more parts, cheaper, and funner

    • @sfbassist
      @sfbassist 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Finding parts for any corvette back to the 50's is as easy as google searching the 1,500 companies that build them. But that's not the point. The car is THE car. I actually posted on someone else's tread that the 07' is a better buy. Regardless, the C2 is ENDLESSLY cooler.

    • @JesseEnclave
      @JesseEnclave 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      DH Bennett
      The same applies to the C3, yet it still managed to look the part(even when it was putting up some truly pathetic numbers in certain model years). I respect the fact that the C2 was the first "real" Corvette, and for its time it was magnificence personified. But, in my opinion, park one next to a C3 and it'll disappear. I can appreciate "classical beauty" and all that, but I like my sports cars to look like sports cars.
      Let me put it this way. If I wanted a collector's item to sit in a climate controlled garage and show off a car show every now and then, I'd go for the C2. But for a classic that I would actually want to drive, C3 all the way.

    Z06 for driving, '63 for looking at.

  • @liahdfg
    @liahdfg 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    On the livability category, why were 2 absurdly huge points missing?...
    1. The Z06 has a trunk that opens. I repeat it has a trunk that opens while the split window does not. How could this point be overlooked?
    2. The tuning segment was a pretty good argument that could have gone on. On the one hand, you don't need special equipment to tune the stingray. It's pretty much the same tuning technique for any old small block. It's extremely simple yet, the Z06 can also be argued is simple. Just buy a computer program and you can tune however you want with the touch a button. Despite the obvious efficiency difference, the argument for tuning ease could really go either way.
    On top of this, bringing a split window isn't fair. The split window is the most iconic vette and wins hands down. They could have brought any other stingray from the same model generation to have a better comparison. You say the Z06 was the most powerful vette up to that time, why not then bring the most powerful stringray from its same model generation?

  • @WatchmakerErik

    I'll take the Z06 on a track, but the Sting Ray to live with everyday. I just feel really sorry for someone 30 years from now who owns the Z06 when its ECM or some other electronics go Tango Uniform.

      Thanks Erik! I have hope for the future of computerized cars simply because we are seeing more and more open source computing platforms in mainstream devices. In thirty years, I could see you plugging in some cell phone sized device with a completely custom engine management system on board when you go to drive your Z06. - Matt

    • @WatchmakerErik
      @WatchmakerErik 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** That is a good thing to hope for. I'd like to see the aftermarket making programmable ECUs with custom or swappable plugs for modern computerized cars.
      I'd also like to see new car OEMs using open source/open standards computer systems like the powerful Arduino platform to car engine management systems, but I don't hold my breath for an OEM designing obsolesence out of their cars :) I know I would, but that's me. I would build a car with the expectation that it will be driven pretty much indefinitely.

      Handsom B Wonderful I have experience with carburetors. My 1965 T-bird has one. No big deal. Roadkill's Frieburger and Finnegan had a carbureted smallblock Ford all the way up to Alaska in stupid-cold weather and, yeah, it was hard to start, but it wasn't a huge problem.
      I don't mind fiddling a little to make something work. Carburetors are a pain, sure, but they aren't unlivable.

      Erik Warnes Total non issue, the aftermarket for the LSx engines are almost as huge as the '55-92 small block, hell, you can even run a carb setup on one or go with a complete aftermarket EFI setup, MSD makes a near plug and play system that has the ECM in the fuel rails.

    I love corvettes. Have one. Love it. The 2007 is a great corvette. Mine is a TPI '85 Corvette, computers have a place, I get the original small block rumble,but it starts when its cold and gets great mileage. it also has 230,000 miles. However, for sheer style and beauty you just cant beat the 1963..
