Good gum bumpin' I appreciate you putting out good information like this so people can get the most out of their training experience to maximize money well spent.
Great video man, always love your vids. So I hope your channel blows up soon. I'm down in Vidor near Beaumont. I'll be prayin for your friends Vag problems.

Ron Cooper - COME OUT AND JOIN US! I'm recruiting several of my Army buddies who served in the late 1980s. So you'll be in good company. The new MILES 2000 is awesome. Remember how inaccurate the Gen.1 and Gen.3 MILES were? Well, when Cubic made MILES 2000 (Gen.4) it was so accurate that the USMC complained! No kidding. Also, there are no more keys. Gone. Plus, the old "bump firing" technique no longer works because whereas the older generations of MILES used only a mercury switch to detect recoil, MILES 2000 uses the mercury switch and a light spectrum reader to read both recoil and a proper light spectrum from the muzzle blast - simultaneously! We've tried to fool it with high speed flashlights. No dice. Of course no simulation is perfect. MILES is still greatly frustrated by dense grass and vegetation. But hey, none of the other simulation platforms (Simunitions, Airsoft, Paintball, Nerf) record a half-mile kill...at night...in -20F temperatures. MILES does. Give is some thought, brother. Yup, what funny is he ended up being at the semester the whole time. Not once did he tell me he was there! I didn't find out until after the whole thing was over.
Funny, was just watching the 2017 gear videos about the one shepard. Shame we dont have things like that here in NL. Hope a quick and speedy recovery for Bruce. For the OD rainjacket option, I have an OD northface jacket (I think it is the north face 'resolve' jacket) that works supremely well. I bought it as a summer jacket, but have worn it even on a motorcycle with massive downpours, and it didnt let through any water. Reasonably lightweight as well, packs up pretty small and not very expensive at all. It has performed better than most rainjackets I have bought, and is still waterproof after 3 years of quite heavy use, and changed my (at first skeptical) opinion on the brand. Definitely would recommend.
tHaH4x0r - Thanks for the tip on the Northface Resolve parka in ODG. Decent price. I will recommend this to the guys who ask for a "lighter more compact" version of the ECWCS parka. Good find. Also, I agree that it's a shame Netherlands won't allow One Shepherd to stand up a training company. That said, One Shepherd boasts alumni from 22 nations worldwide. Just last spring semester we had visiting Warriors from Austria, Canada, and Venezuela. I know it's a long trip...but I promise it's worth your time. Join us.
Really handy info. I went hunting with my son last week and passed through some really dense brush in 30 Degree weather (Celsius). Some stuff I really should have left in my car. You'd be surprised how much noise a small box full of choke tubes makes rattling against a canteen. Between my son and me, we emptied out 4 canteens in about 5 hours.
Nestle coco mix container works nice for small items. There are 2 sizes , really nice with lid. They are yellow plastic. Baby wipes are important, thanks Brent.
Hope Bruce is going better since this upload. I've used the early version of the LBV88 with the straight up 90 degree pouches and it's pretty good. If you need to, you can also rig up a M.O.L.L.E. hydration carrier on that vest with a set of A.L.I.C.E. to M.O.L.L.E. adaptors and some clips. Overall, great run down video :)
Right now, towards the end of February, 2020, they sound like singing angels right now with the winter weather. Although, right now, here in Nebraska, we've had temps near 60°F and sunny, but they're forecasting cold weather again in the middle of the week. I hate winter...
Ha, Peronin. Bought a bunch of freeze dried meals from my wife Her ex. about 9-10 years ago. He planned to trek and climb the Aconcagua (...he didn't even make it to the general area of that mountain :-) Amongst the freeze dried stuff were 2 portions of the Peronin...all the text on it is faded or gone. So, am eager to see how to prepare them and how they taste. Oh, don't forget your OD rattlecan :-)
I don't know anything about Peronin. The whole package is in German lol I'm hoping I can figure it out. Maybe I'll see here in a minute if there is a TH-cam video about them.
Well...why didn't I think of that !!! LOL !!! Found a German review on it, and it apperently looks, tastes and is somewhat like Cocoa Beverage Powder, fortified. Basically a protein drink with cocoa taste.
Daxis Perry sadly no. But I ended up getting rid of it a month later. Rain storm was worse and the jacket wasn’t as great as I thought. I ended up getting the valley apparel jacket in OCP cause my ABU jacket was so good.
Hey Brent, Obviously im watching your video and i just got to your Alice ruck set up. If you change out the shoulder harnes and the hip belt for Tactical Taylor Shoulder/hip harnes and belt you will be amazed at the diffrence itll make in that pack.
Thanks man, I've seen guys add Tactical Taylor made accessories as well as people replacing their hip pads and shoulder straps with MOLLE II components. I personally don't have any issues with the current configuration so I've never bothered with replacing anything.
Hey buddy... it's not that the CF rain gear is garbage... it does keep you dry... the big problem is that it doesn't breathe... so if you're working in the bush with gear you may well end up soaked in sweat... but if it you're staying put and it's cool out... you'll be dry... Thx for the vid... looks like fun trng!
Agreed. That's the nature of PVC rain gear regardless of the manufacturer. In many cases, I actually PREFER the old "gummy suit" PVC rain gear. But, in dry cold or extreme cold conditions, Gore-Tex will perform better. Once it gets hot, really nothing works well. Not even Gore-Tex - too heavy, too hot. It turns into a sweatbox!
Brent/Bruce: suggestions please. I currently run a USGI molle FLC woodland with USGI woodland molle pouches. To accommodate the OPFOR ODG Kit, I was considering running another USGI FLC coyote and molle pouches coyote and idye poly green to re color the coyote as close as possible to ODG. I have not seen an USGI ODG FLC on eBay yet. Q#2: Is my Ranger CFP woodland ruck ok as primary ruck for either uniform? $ is a concern thus trying to stay w USGI surplus or Condor price ranges. Thanks for your feedback. You guys rock! Learning a ton from your videos. - Matt/TX
good hack for your pack. Take one of the keychain red filter lights and attach it to the draw cord on the storm baffle. It means when you need to root through in the middle of the night or in a particularly dark area you don't have to go searching for a light
@@Brent0331 yeah after last year's gear check definitely help me out and got my gear squared away better now all I need is a set of nods and an IR laser. Have fun Brent can't wait to see the rest of your vids from this year one Shepherd
rain coat, it seems like the one that we had in my army time, the problem is that there is no respiration holes and we sweat like hell in that, besides that even Noa could use it in the flood days, eheheh ;)
If anyone has an old GI angle head flashlight they have a hard time letting go of, there are LED bulbs readily available that fit. I think the ones I grabbed were Energizer brand at my local Meijer for $3 or $4. You trade the warm yellow glow for a cooler, brighter, white, and I have yet to do a side by side runtime comparison, but I'll let you know if I do!
When you get your MRE's at One Shepard you can make what we called a Ranger Cookie with the sugar packet and the creamer packet. The creamer packet had an aluminum foil that lined the inside of the packet. If the creamer is still foil lined cut open the creamer packet along the seam opposite of the fold. There was one fold and three sealed sides. Mix the sugar and creamer together and fold the open side to reseal. Roast the packet over a fire. The sugar and creamer melts together. Practice to get a carmel color. Let cool before eating. More of a "candy" than a cookie. A nice little treat when all you have is what you have in that MRE bag. Sort of like having a Biscotti cookie with that rot gut MRE coffee.
Brent, those little IR strobes that go on top of a 9v battery might be a nice distraction tool when the adversary has night vision and you don't. They last a very long time on a single battery so you could set them up during day light, and then leave that position. Depending on how curious they are, they might waste a bit of time investigating nothing.
I recomend to put a phonton light on your pacebeads and the snugpak sleeka (you can get it inexpensive when you search on ebay for uk cold weather gear or something like that). Also depending on how cold it is try peacock pocketwarmers or the cheap ones you can reload in water. A tactical mirror. Know how to use them. Know it don`t think you know it. Regarding food: If you can eat nuts get two 200g packs of nuts. They should fit into your bdu pockets and give you about 2500 Kcal. If you take 1-2 packs of instant noodle soup and/or Erbswurst you should be good to go for a day. This way i can have food for 15 day in my pack without even starting to eat my iron ration (penutbutter).
Brent... I just found out there used to be a Nike missle base that closed a long time ago... It's between Denton and Sanger... Have you ever explored it
Hello Brent. I have been watching your videos for a while now and I really appreciate the content you put online. Concerning these One Shepherd courses. Do you know if US citizens only are allowed to participate ? I am French and I served in the Marine Corps equivalent of the French military for 5 years. One Shepherd seems to be the only place where you can do some actual quality FTXs when being a civilian and I miss those. Plus, working with Americans vets, civilians and maybe even current servicemen and servicewomen sounds like a great experience. Thank you very much.
I sure hope you'll be able to "draft" your fellow team mates to help with the camera equipment and filming .....I would love to participate in one of these classes.
Brent where did you get those subdued Texas flag patches was born in the greatest state in the union yes Texas and would love to get some for my gear. Thanks buddy hopefully you respond or someone else who knows where to acquire them.
what is in your opinion the benefit of having those big binos in comparison to small ones? I use leica ultravid 8x20 and the glass quality is outstanding, they are light weight and robust. The only times i wish i would have bigger lenses is when its getting pretty dark, but thats when my nv setup (pvs14 and prometheus c 2-8x thermal) comes into play, so i'm not really missing out in my opinion.
They're just the best pair of binos I have. I do not have quality mini binos on hand. These Steiners are military grade, excellent glass, and give me a very wide field of view when scanning for the enemy.

Outstanding presentation again. I truly enjoy these gear videos. So do you take coffee like my ex wife's soul? Black and vicious? Lol. Have you thought about breaking the field coffee down to them little Ziploc bags in the Walmart craft section? I myself don't need coffee, i can play a casualty if I don't have it. LoL. Lot's of moaning, bitching and not much movement. Looking forward to seeing the videos. It boosts my morale on a serious note. More and more days I'm laid up with the old back problems. Good to see you yuonger guys reminding us crippled old farts what firepissing is. Thanks for sharing this experience.
Benjamin - I'll let Brent speak for himself on this question. But if you don't mind, I'll offer my experience... Initially, I wasn't too impressed with this shade of OD. I agree with you, it seems a bit on the "blue" side and far too light. But...once in the field with all the battle rattle on, I was amazed at how well it worked! That OD uniform really fades into the background. It seems to me that the advantage of this OD is that it doesn't draw the focus of the human eye. Simply put, our eyes pick it up as "background noise" and we naturally don't focus our attention to indistinct background. This is a very different approach to multi-colored camouflage patterns with sharply differentiating light and dark colors. This multi-colored approach seems to try to throw the human eye off even when focusing on the subject. Or so it seems to me.
Benjamin Fish, Its not what you would think. We have been conditioned to seeing camouflage uniforms for so many years that in our minds if you don't have a camouflage pattern on your somehow not camouflaged. Remember that the U.S. Military used OD/OG107, etc. for years. It IS camouflage and actually is pretty effective. Especially after a full days fighting, your uniform becomes dirty and is even better. I did not feel disadvantage what so ever while fighting on the OPFOR side during the last FTEX.
Patrick Shea - That is an excellent question. Let me try to answer it in terms of the big picture. First, you can find the "Packing List" on the One Shepherd website. Try this link: 1shepherd.com/wp-content/uploads/1-Shepherd-Minimum-Packing-List.pdf Second, you can find specific "Uniforms" guidance on the website, too. Try this link: 1shepherd.com/uniforms/ Let's say that the field gear will likely cost you $500 if you have absolutely nothing today. You'll need something akin to the following field gear: $200 Battle Rattle (MOLLE or ALICE) with Water Bladder or Canteens $ 75 Rucksack (ALICE) with Frame $ 25 PVC Poly Tarp with Bungee Cords $100 USGI ECW Sleeping Bag System $ 25 ThermaRest Iso Sleeping Mat $ 20 USGI 1-Quart Canteen with Pouch (x2) $ 20 USGI Canteen Cup, Stainless Steel with Stove $ 35 USGI Tri-Fold E-Tool Shovel with Pouch Let's say that both uniforms will cost you another $600 if you have absolutely nothing today. You will need the following uniform items: $ 85 Rain Parka, Woodland $ 85 Rain Parka, OD Green $105 Shirt + Pant + Boonie Hat Tru-Spec TRU, Woodland $ 95 Shirt + Pant + Boonie Hat Tru-Spec TRU, OD Green $ 35 Rigger's Belt, OD Green $ 50 T-Shirt + Boot Socks, OD Green (x3 each) $125 Combat Boots, Suede-Out, Coyote Brown $ 20 Mechanic's Gloves, Leather, Coyote Brown (or OD Green) So there it is. Most Warriors spend right at or slightly above $1,000 on uniforms and field gear to start training with One Shepherd. The uniforms should last you the entire six semesters - 42 days of field training, if not much longer. The boots and belt will last 10+ years. The field gear will last you literally the rest of your life, if you take care of it at even minimum standards. Each semester runs just $700 for the entire 7 days of training. "How?!" Well, because One Shepherd is not only a true nonprofit school, but also because for the past 38 years of training operations not a single staff officer or cadre instructor has been paid. We are all unpaid volunteers. That's the way we prefer it. The SPRING SEMESTER runs from Sun 28 April ~ Sat 4 May at the BSR facility in West Virginia, near the DC area. The full 7-day semester costs just $700 and includes all instruction, meals, ammunition, tented sleeping quarters with cot, plus all mission essential gear such as AR15 weapon, MILES simulation, tactical radio, and night vision. You just need to travel there with your field gear and both uniforms - OPFOR and BLUFOR. The FALL SEMESTER runs from Sun 22 ~ Sat 28 September at the CMTC facility in mid-Missouri near Osage Beach. The cost is the same $700 for the 7-day semester. REGISTRATION OPENS ONLINE ON FRIDAY, 1 MARCH.
Daniel - I cannot tell the difference. I see them standing side-by-side in the One Shepherd formation, and I cannot see any visible difference in coloration - as long as they are both either the 65/35 or 60/40 Ripstop blend. Whereas the 100% cotton Ripstop is typically darker when new because it fades - a lot and fast.
With your surefire do you use a pressure pad with it or do you just use the push button to activate it? If you use the pressure pad, what do use to attach it to the fore grip, tape?
Any male who says that Gold Bond is foot powder is a liar. We all know what its real purpose is. In all seriousness though, if I were in better condition, physically and financially, I would definitely take the time to head down there and take this course. It looks like a truly awesome experience, and definitely would give me something to do with the growing pile of OD kit in my surplus collection.
I'll let you know after the 1S semester, this is the first time I'll be using it in a tactical environment. The video I show in this through NVGs is the flash light with IR cover going off. However, that was with some older batteries, I'm going to put some new ones in there for training.
how many of those sportsman's trunks do you need to carry all of that? I just started picking them up from where I work and I'm not having a lot of luck with getting them to hold all of my kit
Hi my name is Samuel, and this comment is regarding the One Shepard Institute. My question is will I be able to take part in the course because I am 17 years old, also all of my gear is in the coyote tan color because I live in ca, so will I be able to take part in the course, or no, also would I have to buy new gear for like the forest camouflage like woodland or multi cam or is coyote tan fine since that’s all that I have.
Also since I think it would be a long shot for me to come from California to the one Shepard institute location, and also my gear since I prepared it for the desert type camouflage I don’t think I could come. So I want to ask do you know any military style courses in Ca similar to the one Shepard institute
I would like to attend this falls training , unfortunately all I have for Vlue force uniforms are my old Army issue BDU,s Would this stop me from being able to attend . It's to late for me to get the required style .
My light is an old Surefire light I was issued by in 2004, I don't even remember its name. Maybe a G2 series. In any event you can buy an IR filter very cheap on Ebay.
Absolutely, Gary. One Shepherd claims alumni from 22 nations worldwide. Last spring we had Warriors from Canada, Austria, and Venezuela. Curiously, we've never had any Brit Warriors join us - so you'd be breaking the mold. If you need help with uniforms and/or gear, we can very likely help you with that, too. Just let us know. There are multiple ways to get in contact with us - here on TH-cam, but better yet try our Facebook page or website. (Which I'm told TH-cam doesn't like us leaving websites, but One Shepherd is easy to find.)
EVERYTHING brother, you will do EVERYTHING. You might start out assaulting a known enemy position, and after that you'll probably get orders to relocate to a new area. At that point a patrol base is established and you might run patrols out of there. You also may find yourself setting in the defense and holding a location to deny the enemy. During that time you'll probably kick out recon patrols. It truly encompasses many aspects of being an infantryman.
That's kind of a weird question that I really don't know the answer to. Last time I was up there they had a group of guys I believe that were associated with another training organization similar to One Shepherd. I want to say that those guys have a partnership with One Shepherd and train in their academy wearing their uniform (which is MultiCam). They worked into the scenario last time that there were two different Blufor factions working together which were guys in Multicam and guys in woodland. Woodland is the official "Blufor" uniform however. Maybe Dr. Larson will jump into this question and give a better answer. I can tell you though from an OPFOR perspective during fire fights, I found the guys wearing MC easier to spot than the guys wearing Woodland in the green vegetated environment there.
That...is a really good question. I have no idea why. Huh. All I can say is that it was interesting in 1981 when One Shepherd selected OD green for the OPFOR uniform because the US Army Combat Training Centers all did the same thing - NTC at Fort Irwin, JRTC at Fort Polk, and JMRC at Hohenfels, Germany. I still see photos of the Army CTCs and think to myself, "Which semester was that?" Nope. All OPFOR just look the same! I'm really not sure why.
First time I went to the NTC at Ft. Irwin, CA the OPFOR were wearing the old Vietnam era OD green Sateens. This was 1983. Years ago the US Army had warehouses full of the Sateen OD Green from Vietnam. When the BDU became standard back 1982. All OPFOR were wearing Sateens. The BDU's were a change from the OD green fatigues, as worn in the movie "Stripes." I guess it was decided to continue using OD green. The old Sateens had breast pockets that were angled. Notice Brent's pockets are straight across with Velcro and sleeve pockets. The old style Sateens had two angled breast pockets, two belly pockets, and, two cargo pockets on the sides of the trousers. No Velcro anywhere. That may be where the OD Green for OPFOR originated.
Believe it or not its not a bad uniform for camouflage. There is a reason OG-107 utilities were used for so many years. I did not feel disadvantaged what so ever while fighting on the OPFOR side last time I was up there.
Nice video, this stuff really helps me and if I wasn't cheap, I would be real good for this... ever since the first video you did I've been giving prepping a lot of thought.... and I really appreciate this stuff, I will try to be less cheap... maybe get an Alice pack... currently available here for about 20$ but I think you should take the Bulgarian Froggy camo... ... (joking.)
What is your experience with Goretex lined boots? I bought (belleville) USMC Goretex lined boots and after a few months of daily wear the goretex starts to wear with the foot's friction.
@@eveliinatistelgren172 goretex seems to stop working on boots after some time. My goretex shoes are pretty much destroyed after only one year of not hard use. Walking, schraching, kicking dammages it. My suggestion is to stick with lether and rubberized syntetic materials type boots and sprey them with watter resistant sprey before gooing out.
Ooooooh being your friend can be painful. At least he's on the mend. That said have a MAYBE BAG. Stuff your on the fence about. Have it in the vehicle so you can change up if needed. Better to have and not need than to need. An after thought, extra socks! Take care of your feet! Some Dr. Scholl inserts for your boots maybe even a couple extra pair they don't weigh crap. Take care of your feet, NO NEW BOOTS.
@@Brent0331 Stupidly trashed my feet during a stroll under triple canopy 41 years ago with uncle Sam. Paid the price for almost a month. If you get you boots soaked just dry socks, a couple of gallon zip lock bags and you are good to go.

One Shepherd used to have a winter semester many moons ago. And it always got a surprisingly large turnout...but the expense of the required gear was a bit prohibitive. So we stopped that. Now, whereas A Company is in Missouri, the plan is to stand up B Company somewhere along the Mid-Atlantic States and begin training in 2019 or 2020. That's in the works still. But B Company might very well host a winter semester. More info to follow next year.
Sure. While One Shepherd has an established uniform (two actually - BLUFOR and OPFOR), we're fairly permissive in field gear because we believe Warriors have to fight from battle rattle that makes sense to each individual. So yes, plate carriers are fine. As Brent stated in this video, it's best if it's OD green so that you can wear it with either uniform. Cool?
Dapper Otter - In order to bring a plate carrier, you're first going to have to choose which location is best for your training. You have two choices this year (2019)... Thanks, there is more camo videos to come. I actually have footage from two different ones already filmed, I haven't had time to edit them due to the PA Cyclops video and this coming up.
been trying get video test on altered camo patterns that military gave up universal pattern other stuff had camera lost cord then got chance in future to replace camera on improvised camo patterns
I've never seen someone so passionate to go the field

Ha agreed.
So true! As a side note I run a stack of baby wipes in a small freezer bag for about a week at a time and they don't dry out.
Good gum bumpin'

I would love to go one year but i need to re acquire alot of gear!
Got out of the Army in 89.
have not used the NEW miles equipment.
Did make a GOD key back in the day!!
Even figured out how to cheat the laser. People used to slap the but of the rifle to shoot the laser and quite often got caught from the noise. Not to mention hard to aim!
I was able to silently fire an AIMED SHOT.
Got TOP 3 times!!!

Great videos!!!!
Keep up the good work!!
Thanks brother, hope to see you out there.
MILES does.

That’s frigging outstanding that that guy sent you all that camera gear thank you for doing that Bknight way to be a team player
Yup, what funny is he ended up being at the semester the whole time. Not once did he tell me he was there! I didn't find out until after the whole thing was over.
An awesome video on just good gear to have for an unknown future in America. Thanks Brent!
Appreciate it, thanks for watching.
Join us.
Sadly my funds (and time schedule) currently don't allow me to get there... Hopefully one day soon! Definitely looks like an amazing time.
Cool. Understood. But once you can make it out - join us!
Thanks for the suggestion brother.
Here in Absurdistan, they've outlawed private militia and/or training thereof back in 1934...talk about breeding sheeple.
aw man I can't wait for the videos from this upcoming One Shepard course. I know it's gonna be awesome dude!!
It sure is, I plan to get quite a bit of footage on this one.
Nice, thanks for the comment, water is just as important as ammo.
Nestle coco mix container works nice for small items. There are 2 sizes , really nice with lid. They are yellow plastic. Baby wipes are important, thanks Brent.
Thanks for watching and commenting brother.
Appreciate it brother.
Always love you videos, highlight of my day
Thanks brother, S/F.
I Can't wait for the video(s) you make and show all of us from up there. I like your gear you are taken up there this year too. Good Luck🤞🏻to you❕
Thanks brother.
Those catydids are chirping like crazy in Texas today.
Yup, they're awful.
Brent0331 Yeah our parrots where intereasted in the noise LOL! BZ on the video made my day!
Brent0331 Yep the loudest insects in world troop. Look it up bro, also here in NC but it means autumn is approaching. Thank God!
Got 'em way up here in Minnesota too. Not quite as many and it's not nearly as loud, but they're still annoying.
For OD, Woodland and Multicam I actually really like Helikon from the UK. I just wore the jacket when it was raining sideways the other day.
KevinJohn556 any experience with their Swagman roll?? Looks wild.
Daxis Perry sadly no. But I ended up getting rid of it a month later. Rain storm was worse and the jacket wasn’t as great as I thought. I ended up getting the valley apparel jacket in OCP cause my ABU jacket was so good.
@@KevinJohn556 That sucks :-/ Thanks for the info!
- Matt/TX
Thanks for sharing, cant wait to see the footage from One Shepherd.
Gonna do my best to bring you guys the whole experience.
Awesome video and great gear.. what kind of headlamp is that?
Princeton Tec FRED LED Headlamp.
good hack for your pack. Take one of the keychain red filter lights and attach it to the draw cord on the storm baffle. It means when you need to root through in the middle of the night or in a particularly dark area you don't have to go searching for a light
Thanks for your tips.
I hope I can go with you guys next year I'll start saving
Wish you were coming this year brother, see you next time.

I can’t wait to do it!
hahahah not even 2 minutes in and the burn is strong :)
See you there man, i'll be flying and only taking what I can carry on the flight.
Awesome brother!
Thanks for watching and commenting.
About smell , you make a good point . At night smell will give you away .
You can get led bulbs for that moonbeam. I use two red filters when I use it.
Thanks for your input.
I have no idea how you enduring Cicada noise but thank you for your great content
After a while It becomes back ground noise and you don't even notice it. They're annoying though.
Where does one find an OD LBV-88 of US manufacture in new condition?
How did the helmet hold up?
Ditch the the gold bond powder for chafing and use some boudreauxs butt paste. That stuff works wonders.
I sure hope you'll be able to "draft" your fellow team mates to help with the camera equipment and filming .....I would love to participate in one of these classes.
Me too.
Hope Bruce pulled through it
Brent where did you get those subdued Texas flag patches was born in the greatest state in the union yes Texas and would love to get some for my gear. Thanks buddy hopefully you respond or someone else who knows where to acquire them.
Ebay brother, you can find them cheap there.
That Marine Rifle Squad book, is that a TM manual? I was a Combat Engineer and we had an “Engineer Bible” what’s the name of That book??
will we be seeing some go pro footage from one shepard
Yes, for sure.
what is in your opinion the benefit of having those big binos in comparison to small ones? I use leica ultravid 8x20 and the glass quality is outstanding, they are light weight and robust. The only times i wish i would have bigger lenses is when its getting pretty dark, but thats when my nv setup (pvs14 and prometheus c 2-8x thermal) comes into play, so i'm not really missing out in my opinion.
They're just the best pair of binos I have. I do not have quality mini binos on hand. These Steiners are military grade, excellent glass, and give me a very wide field of view when scanning for the enemy.
Next year brother. Ill be there.

How effective was OD in your observation? It appears a little too blue, but that very well may be a matter of the camera messing tonal values up.
@@christopherlarsen7788 Thank you, Sir! I'm saving up my money to make it out to 1S. Can't wait to go eventually.

Brent, can I make mention of a location that sometimes has OD goretex outerwear?
You bet, just when you put the address write " DOT COM" in place of ".com" so that it does not get flagged as spam.
Hello I don't have a lot of money but I would love to take this course what is the bare minimum for gear requirements?
Patrick Shea - That is an excellent question. Let me try to answer it in terms of the big picture.
First, you can find the "Packing List" on the One Shepherd website. Try this link:
1shepherd.com/wp-content/uploads/1-Shepherd-Minimum-Packing-List.pdf
Second, you can find specific "Uniforms" guidance on the website, too. Try this link:
1shepherd.com/uniforms/
Let's say that the field gear will likely cost you $500 if you have absolutely nothing today. You'll need something akin to the following field gear:
$200 Battle Rattle (MOLLE or ALICE) with Water Bladder or Canteens
$ 75 Rucksack (ALICE) with Frame
$ 25 PVC Poly Tarp with Bungee Cords
$100 USGI ECW Sleeping Bag System
$ 25 ThermaRest Iso Sleeping Mat
$ 20 USGI 1-Quart Canteen with Pouch (x2)
$ 20 USGI Canteen Cup, Stainless Steel with Stove
$ 35 USGI Tri-Fold E-Tool Shovel with Pouch
Let's say that both uniforms will cost you another $600 if you have absolutely nothing today. You will need the following uniform items:
$ 85 Rain Parka, Woodland
$ 85 Rain Parka, OD Green
$105 Shirt + Pant + Boonie Hat Tru-Spec TRU, Woodland
$ 95 Shirt + Pant + Boonie Hat Tru-Spec TRU, OD Green
$ 35 Rigger's Belt, OD Green
$ 50 T-Shirt + Boot Socks, OD Green (x3 each)
$125 Combat Boots, Suede-Out, Coyote Brown
$ 20 Mechanic's Gloves, Leather, Coyote Brown (or OD Green)
So there it is.
Is the Tru-spec od green and the Propper OD green a same or slightly different
Daniel - I cannot tell the difference. I see them standing side-by-side in the One Shepherd formation, and I cannot see any visible difference in coloration - as long as they are both either the 65/35 or 60/40 Ripstop blend.
Whereas the 100% cotton Ripstop is typically darker when new because it fades - a lot and fast.
Is multi cam acceptable for OpFor?
How did you keep all of that issued gear? Did CIF make you pay for it?
about 90% of that stuff is not current issue. You can find it cheap on the surplus market.
With your surefire do you use a pressure pad with it or do you just use the push button to activate it? If you use the pressure pad, what do use to attach it to the fore grip, tape?
I currently do not have a pressure pad. Because I have that broom stick on their my thumb conveniently can activate the light as needed.
Well brother, hit the pavement and get ready! Next semester will be in the spring.
How effective is that old-school surefire with filter under NODs?
I'll let you know after the 1S semester, this is the first time I'll be using it in a tactical environment. The video I show in this through NVGs is the flash light with IR cover going off. However, that was with some older batteries, I'm going to put some new ones in there for training.
@@Brent0331 okay cool. Thanks and keep up the good work

I'm only taking one as a foot locker. I have a large deployment bag that holds the majority of my gear.
Yes you can participate. Gear should be OG/Green. If you dont have any you might be able to loan some but you have to contact them to coodinate.
Brent0331 ok thanks
Also since I think it would be a long shot for me to come from California to the one Shepard institute location, and also my gear since I prepared it for the desert type camouflage I don’t think I could come. So I want to ask do you know any military style courses in Ca similar to the one Shepard institute
In not familiar with any.
I would like to attend this falls training , unfortunately all I have for Vlue force uniforms are my old Army issue BDU,s Would this stop me from being able to attend . It's to late for me to get the required style .

If you're going to attend you better call them asap, registration just closed. They might make an exception though if you contact them quickly.
What mount do you use for the ACOG so that it will clear the rear backup sight?

Would they let someone from the UK join a OneShepard session?
Absolutely, Gary. One Shepherd claims alumni from 22 nations worldwide. Last spring we had Warriors from Canada, Austria, and Venezuela. Curiously, we've never had any Brit Warriors join us - so you'd be breaking the mold.
If you need help with uniforms and/or gear, we can very likely help you with that, too. Just let us know. There are multiple ways to get in contact with us - here on TH-cam, but better yet try our Facebook page or website. (Which I'm told TH-cam doesn't like us leaving websites, but One Shepherd is easy to find.)
Fantastic! on my list. Too late for this year but I'll start prepping for 2019. Thanks a million Dr Larsen.
Excellent. We'll see you next year, Gary. Looking forward to training with you. Again, reach out to us with any questions. Glad to help.
Brent, what you've done thus far at One Shepard, was it like a Long Range Recon Patrol, or were you seeking out to engage the enemy more?
EVERYTHING brother, you will do EVERYTHING. You might start out assaulting a known enemy position, and after that you'll probably get orders to relocate to a new area. At that point a patrol base is established and you might run patrols out of there. You also may find yourself setting in the defense and holding a location to deny the enemy. During that time you'll probably kick out recon patrols. It truly encompasses many aspects of being an infantryman.
Can you wear combat pants with built-in kneepads, and is multicam ok
But Brent why is OPFOR always OD?
That...is a really good question. I have no idea why. Huh.
All I can say is that it was interesting in 1981 when One Shepherd selected OD green for the OPFOR uniform because the US Army Combat Training Centers all did the same thing - NTC at Fort Irwin, JRTC at Fort Polk, and JMRC at Hohenfels, Germany. I still see photos of the Army CTCs and think to myself, "Which semester was that?" Nope. All OPFOR just look the same! I'm really not sure why.
Hopefully, someone can shed light.
The BDU's were a change from the OD green fatigues, as worn in the movie "Stripes."
I guess it was decided to continue using OD green.
So is it because it's the color of the army's old clothes?
Thank you for your service
Appreciate it.
Do you still attend the semesters in MO?
Nice video, this stuff really helps me and if I wasn't cheap, I would be real good for this... ever since the first video you did I've been giving prepping a lot of thought.... and I really appreciate this stuff, I will try to be less cheap... maybe get an Alice pack... currently available here for about 20$ but I think you should take the Bulgarian Froggy camo...

Ha, save up brother, its worth it. I will probably do a video on the "budget" Alice pack in the near future.

You provide (1) the OPFOR and BLUFOR uniforms, (2) your field gear, and (3) your transportation to and from the training facility. We provide the rest. Cool?

Is there a winter semester?
One Shepherd used to have a winter semester many moons ago. And it always got a surprisingly large turnout...but the expense of the required gear was a bit prohibitive. So we stopped that.
Now, whereas A Company is in Missouri, the plan is to stand up B Company somewhere along the Mid-Atlantic States and begin training in 2019 or 2020. That's in the works still. But B Company might very well host a winter semester. More info to follow next year.
Would i be able to bring a plate carrier?
