Bro I live in Montreal. The ventilation that you showed later for fresh air is used as house humidifier as well. If you ever see condensation on your windows you need to keep relative humidity between 40-50 degrees. Very important

rockwool or glasswool is the material used for insulation of the sots. I have seen glasswool used between the gaps to get strong insulation from outside cold. It was a structure in himachal where temperature dipped to -30 sometimes.
