I just had this for the first not too long ago & I’ve been craving it ever since. I’m SO glad you made a tutorial for it. Thank you for sharing the recipe, can’t wait to try it!
Hi Linda! This has a richer velvety texture due to the coconut milk (kind of like panang curry but as a soup). Its a little sweet, a little salty and can be a little tart with tamarind/lime adjustments. There are layers of flavors but all well balanced. Hope you give it a try!
One more thing! Khao poon has a spicier herbaceous umami flavor whereas the spice in this is a bit toned down but heavy on the coconut and balanced with sweet, salty and sour. Hope this helps!
Hi! You can sauté ground chili’s into the garlic and shallots or add it into individual bowls when serving. Of course you can always serve this with fried chilies on the side to kick up the spice!
We dont eat any pork in my household.. Is there a big difference regarding the taste if I use chicken or beef instead?(Which meat is the best for an alternative?)
I’ve never made without pork but if I had to choose an alternative, I would use ground chicken and skinless thighs/drumettes/flats. Please let me know if you make a chicken/beef version. Would love to hear how it turns out!
I’ve had it with chicken and it’s great! You can use ground chicken or even turkey for a richer flavor. Bone in requires removing it from the broth, pounding it in a big morter and pestle and adding it back to the soup. I would do both since you get good flavor from the bones.

Hi! I wasn’t aware of any speciality lao/thai dam lunar dishes. What have you had?
You can use the soy bean paste without the bean right? Cuz i hate beans lol
yes you can :)
Hi you listed the 5 cans of water but when did you add it in?
Hi! Water is added in at 4:40 (after coconut milk). I should’ve been more clear. Hope that clarifies :)
🤗😋
