As a soldier based at Rheindahlen, and living in Roermond, I was a member of the Gliding club, 1964 to 1969. Spent many a happy hour on the airfield, living in the Transit block and stealing RAF breakfasts, but it has changed a lot due to „new“ buildings and redevelopment since its Canberra days.
Wonderful video. Lots of memories at this place. I was on armourer on 431MU (1987-1990) Lived in Roermond. Spent lots of time between here and 3BAD Bracht. Used to enjoy racing a car for Bruggen RallyX club. Brilliant memories for the whole family. Bruggen was one of my favourite tours for sure. Thank you for uploading this video. 👍
Wow, wow, wow! I spent 8 years at RAF Brüggen (1983-86 and 1987-92), as a technician in the Royal Air Force, so this brings back some great memories, of a place and country I hold dear, thank you!! Most of my time was spent on the other side of the airfield, in what was known as 431 Maintenance Unit, which used to run up to the perimeter fence on the Elmpt - Roermond road, so it would be wonderful if you could film that side as well?? Equally, all the accommodation, offices and services such as shop, cinema, bowling alley and swimming pool were on that side, so anyone who served at RAF Brüggen would know that area irrespective of where they worked on camp. Thank you again, and I do hope you can film the camp some more! Vielen Danke!!
Ich habe im Vorgangenheit hier gearbeitet... Es sieht jetzt wie einen Geisterstadt. Danke für diesen Video. Bringt viele glückliche Erinnerungen vorbei.
I was based there 1985-86 and earlier at RAF Wildenrath just to the South. It looks as though it could be reactivated without too much difficulty if needed. Thanks for the memories.
Wonderful video. I spent nearly 12 years at RAF Bruggen, 3 years on 31 Sqn, a few of years on the station and nearly 6 years on 14 Sqn which is the site featured at the start and most of this amazing video. Brought back some very happy memories of a very important part of my life. Thank you for making it and sharing.
Great memories like others have said. I was there from 1984 to 1987, on 14 Squadron when the base transitioned from Jaguar to Tornado aircraft. Brilliant time to be there as it was busy and building up the Tornado fleet to fully operational status.
Hello. This absolutely superb. It has to be Bruggen. I was on 20 Sqn Jags. I went back to Roermond, just over the border three weeks ago. What a lovely town. Very happy memories, but again, a superb video. Thank you.
Initially a little reluctant when my posting came out of the blue, after buying my first house in the UK and after only a year out of training. I wouldn't have changed my experience for the world, I was there when the Wall fell and at the start of the Gulf War. At the SWO's brief, noticed the faded emblem on the back of the seats in PSF, around the main table and discovered some history about the site. I was meant to go to 9 Sqn but ended up in the PAC, would have liked to returned, but the place was doomed once the wall fell. Remember the Ferrari F40 race down the runway against the Tornado. Loved Monchengladbach and especially Roermond. More footage please.
I was stationed in The Netherlands. For 3 years I ran in Wednesday RAFG/BAOR cross country league. Brugge also held the annual Bruggen 10 mile road race. A good fast race with the top 25 usually under 53 minutes. Plenty of good runners came over from UK stations. Happy days, I’m 63 now.
Great overhead shots of the 14 Squadron HAS site. Did two tours at Brüggen, 1974-76 on 431MU & 31 Sqn Phantoms then 1980-83 on 31Sqn & 14 Sqn Jaguars. Great camp and great memories.
I was out-billetted at Bruggen for around six weeks in 1955 whilst our accommodation was readied at Rheindahlen were I worked as an AC Plonk in the SHQ.
Spent 3 years as an armourer there between 77/82 on 431 MU going between Bruggen, Wildenrath and Bracht. All now closed I believe. Really good times as was drunk most of the time. :)
@@ISO_consultants I guess my dad was probably a bit before your time. We left in 1970. I do remember going into the shed as late as 1999 and finding pictures of my parents in photo albums. It was all a bit of a mess. I flew with the Phoenix a few times in about 1984 and taking over the winch from Gp Captain John Allison, later ACM Sir John, who was the Station Commander at Wildenrath. He was mainly there so his sons could glide; one of whom is James Allison of Mercedes F1. Like you said, it was a great place. I walked out to an aeroplane at Barkston Heath last week and for the first time in ages heard the sound of Skylarks; it just transported me back to being at Brueggen. Fabulous.
It would be nice to see more of the other side of the base, but maybe that is not allowed as I believe the accommodation is being used. I first arrived at Bruggen in 1953 as a small child and spent 5 very happy years there. My parents forged friendships with some people in the local community which made our stay so rewarding. I returned with my own family in the 80s and enjoyed a further 4 years.
Transited through on the way to an exercise at Wildenrath with 16 sqn RAF Regiment picked up a few Land rovers and on our way highlight watching two Phantoms on that runway taking off with full afterburners.

Maybe we add some info of the airfield next time?
Spanners you still need to join 31 Sqn Association. www.31association.co.uk it would be good to see you
I wondered which "corner" it was! Thank you. I was on 20. Jags. Best regards.
I was there July 1967 to Dec 1969. Ground Radio mech in the RAF. Loved it. Happy memories. Thanks for posting.

Was RCT and was in GL Sect at Bruggen (1984 to 1986), my RAF Sqn was 17, best 2 years I ever had.

You’re welkome.

Happy days, I was in the PAC from 92 - 94 then came back again in 97 to 31 Sqn until 2001.
I had forgotten all about that F40 v Tornado race! I won a flight in an RAF Helicopter and one of my friend’s parents won a car. Brilliant posting

Was never based at Bruggen but visited many times from Laarbruch and Wildenrath. Yes, happy days!!
Did two tours, 75 to 77 in the station armoury, and 79 to 81 on 20 Sqn Jaguars. Brilliant, memorable times and it's sad to see what's become of it.
70-81 Jaguars ??????
I remember that place with 17f tornadoes.... It was allot more bustling then.... Happy days.... It's sad to see it like that, abandoned.....
I was out-billetted at Bruggen for around six weeks in 1955 whilst our accommodation was readied at Rheindahlen were I worked as an AC Plonk in the SHQ.
I did two tours of Brueggen - 1992-95 & 1997-2000 I loved the area. It would have been nice to see what the married quarters looked like now though!
Haha that roughly same as my dads tours of bruggen with lossie either side and cottesmore in between.
Spent 3 years as an armourer there between 77/82 on 431 MU going between Bruggen, Wildenrath and Bracht. All now closed I believe. Really good times as was drunk most of the time. :)
I was at RAF Bruggen from 1986-87, on 14 SQN Tonka's. I think the opening shots are
14's old site. Happy days, Dave "Spike" Howard.
Reall strange to see the sterile area around the SSA and inside full of trees, spent many a shift staring at the fence in there.
Me also QPD, 1971 75. Wild times to be single and at Bruggen
That is not abandoned. It is just expertly camouflaged.
Had 2.5 years gliding at Phoenix Gliding Club for n the 70’s. Happy days.
Built the bar and the Nissan hut for the gliders on far side of the runways.
Do either of you remember my dad, Roger Hodgson. He was the CFI circa 1970.
Kev Keily and then Mick Simmonds were the CFI’s I knew

worked on stn mt 89-92 loved Bruggen
Was there in 53 54 in M T, Sabres were flying from there then. Only good thing about the place was Lou, one of the NAAFI girls.

Fantastic 3 years on IX (B) Sqn and 31 Sqn always will be a special time in my life.
you can rekindle the camaraderie on 31 Sqn Association. We meet once a year.
Was there 1968-1970 Canberra PR7 and BI6.
Two tours at Bruggen, 1979-82 and 1989-93, happy happy times spent here, sad to see it now

I did ask to enter the accommodation place, but no entry allowed. It is under heavy guarding.
A new visit to Raf Brüggen is on hus way. And a view of the entry side of the base.
It is sheduled for 10 april.
I spent 3 years at bruggen Cross the border daily into Holland live in roemond beautiful town now I live in trinidad w. I

Did a tour there in mid 70's. 431 M.U
Aerial Erector on 431MU shed 5. Brill times
Transited through on the way to an exercise at Wildenrath with 16 sqn RAF Regiment picked up a few Land rovers and on our way highlight watching two Phantoms on that runway taking off with full afterburners.
nice work really nice, wohne keine 20 Meter vom alten Eingang bzw alten Einfahrt entfernt.
MFG
MFG

it is generally well maintained.
Hey schon praktisch so ne drohne
Tolle Aufnahme,Gruss Tezetka
Voorzichtig vliegen he. Beetje geluk, rustig weer. En niet te ver.
A bit sobering to see the 'index' site at the 7 min mark.
@Firsthgyhgyhuy Lastujhujhuj special storage area.
Spent many hours working in that area, not many knew it was there or what it was for
Make’s me curious, for what was it?
Is it still abandoned?
I think so.
In 2018 7 airplane bunkers demolish
Hele toffe locatie dikke duim omhoog.
Ohne Erdüberdeckung ziemlich kläglich, reiner Witterungsschutz.
Thanks!
What ???
typical of ryanair. it's in the middle of nowhere lol but the countryside and local towns are charming.
Hele toffe locatie dikke duim omhoog.
