As a male, black, 20-something, I remember listening to this song while working with my dad on the weekends. I know the song talks about pain in a relationship but I always applied it to other portions of my life too. There may be let downs, disappointments, and I may mess up, but all of those things work out to strengthen and improve us. We can’t grow without growing pains.
I used to love this song. Listening to it tonight though, it hit differently. There’s truth to it for sure, but I don’t know, I think women, Black women in particular, have been conditioned to believe we have to be hurt by men in some manner, in order to “earn” our way into womanhood. We’ve been conditioned to accept some level of mistreatment. That whole “boys will be boys” trope is dead and it should be. We deserve respect and be treated lovingly; gently. Yes, everyone makes mistakes. Sometimes it’s just bad behavior/choices, too, and it’s unacceptable. So forgive for sure, but also know when to walk away. We don’t owe anyone our happiness. We owe it to ourselves to be good alone, if need be.
The young generation needs to sit and listen to every single word of this song, so they can understand reality, instead of thinking because they have a pretty face and a beautiful body that they deserve a man's money.
This song is a metaphor in life not just a man but in life if you want something more your going to go through something if it’s easy then it’s not worth it. A man is just one of many things that you will experience heartache from no matter the color of your skin. You gotta push through the pressure and pressure makes diamonds. Love this song it’s a childhood favorite ❤️ RIH Betty Wright
🎶We’re all entitled to make a mistake, we got to prepare for some heartbreak, I was earning my man while I was learning my man...🎙 #RealMusic #RIPBetty #NoPainNoGain
I was married for 25 yrs, when we met it was my favorite song, he died in January and now I listen and cry 😭🙏 ❤️ but it's still my 2 nd fav song of all time after the clean up woman.
@@VALISSACARNELL thank you for your kind words and it is getting better with time other than seeing his whole face on my kids but knowing that God will allow me to see him again.
The song is about a break up and getting back together. Going through that separation to finally get back together.......I DONT KNOW WHAT THE HELL IS SO HARD TO GET.....ALL THIS REACHING FOR NO REASON.......The song aged as it should CLASSIC!!!!!!!!!!
I cant help but smile and shake my head when listening to this beautiful song by the amazing songstress Betty Wright....gosh this is what we call Real Music!!!... so powerful 🙌🙌🙌🙌....Rest in Peace Queen👸🙏🙏🙏
I think people are missing the point of this song. She saying if your person is generally a good person then fight for your relationship. The point she is making is that when you bring two people together it’s not going to be easy; there’s going to be some hurts, offenses, and misunderstandings. So if you’re expecting your relationship to be all roses and rainbows all the time you’re not going to make it very far. TRUE RELATIONSHIPS are WORK. And they take more than 5 minutes of work. This microwave society we’re living in can’t perceive what she’s saying in this song, because we actually have to invest time in something other than ourselves to make the type of love she’s talking about work.
Betty you killing me! LOL! hit them high notes girl, this song reminds me of my neighbor growing up she would play this song 24/7-when she first fell in love with her now husband of 30+ years. Here's 2 u Cynthia & Otis Pierson, luv u guys, wishing u 30 more years of wedded bliss.
My dad used to drive around with me in the car with CDs playing this song and now that I’m 17 I still listen to this with my dad 🤗 along with a lot of 60- 2000s rap and rnb
My mom use to listen to this song when i was a little girl i didn't know what betty meant when she said no pain no gain, but now im a grown woman with a grown woman mind I understand 100 % no pain no gain.
Mannn I use to wake up to my mom or grandma cleaning to this 😮💨🤟🏿 I’m a 2000’s baby and honestly love this song including Marvin gae, bill withers, frank senata and etc. I can go on but what I’m saying is, us youngins can have an old soul too
Such a beautiful song. Now i know that if you want pleasure you gotta be willing to accept the pain. Without pain, you won't get pleasure. That's my understanding and she's she right... Can't stop playing this song on repeat for whatever reason lol
I heard this song 🎵 last Sunday and I was thinking 🤔 God are you talking to me. You know sometimes .....God speaks the language of soul. God bless 🙌 🙏 ❤
I don't believe any woman should be in a relationship when experiencing more pain than pleasure. Steve Harvey said a Man show's his Love by Providing. Protecting. Professing. A Real Man will put a roof over your head and pay all the bills. He will make you feel safe. Finally he'll put the ring on the finger without you asking. Women we need to Love Ourselves First so we know we deserve to be treated as a Queen.
I still love this song, sung it amany times going through some things with my late husband. Song still holds true. No Pain No Gain. RWG a true woman of songs.
You are absolutely correct. Pain doesn't mean gain, especially when it comes to black women. It's horrible when women are treated with disrespect and still continue to accept it. NO MA'AM. I was married for 9 years and found out that clown was in an ongoing relationship with a woman at his job for years, and there is no telling what else he was doing. I didn't care at that point. I found out Dec 2022, filed for divorce Feb 2023, and my divorce was final April 2023. The marriage was the pain, and the gain was my divorce. I'm happily divorced, and it's been peaceful ever since. Joy unspeakable joy. Stop telling yourself that it's ok to suffer and get nothing but pain. My peace will not be disturbed. Period🫡💯🤷🏾♀️🤷🏾♀️

Growing up is realizing that this song promotes struggle love and the reason a lot of people believe you have to suffer first before you receive love.
