I believe the beginning 5 minutes is the fashion show scene from "The Women" 1939, which was one of the first public intoductions to color film. A great movie.

Sadly they remade the movie "The Women" in the late nineties early 2000's if I am not mistaken, and it was utter garbage. A truly horrible remake they should have left this classic alone. The original is so much better.

    • @blw957
      @blw957 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

The Women was also remade as a 1956 musical comedy titled The Opposite Sex, starring June Allyson, Joan Collins, and Ann Miller. I'm not sure if I ever saw this movie. I hope it is not as dismal as Lucille Ball's attempt to sing in the musical version of Auntie Mame. Remaking a classic is never a good idea. I didn't bother watching the 2008 remake as it got horrible reviews. It's like watching a drag queen do a horrible job of lip syncing your favorite song: you never get that vision out of your head when you hear the song going forward. :-)

Did anyone notice that they all looked...wonderfully different from one another? There was such a variety of models/women, just like the variety of styles. Today it's all disgustingly homogeneous and careless. Well, it was nice to visit back to a time when women, and men, actually took care of thier appearance.

With ‘The Women’ sequence: The lavender & black & white ones from the ‘picnic’ tableau were my favourites- though the white & gold with the turquoise wrap is close, because I love turquoise & teal.
Audrey is always stunning- I liked the understated glamour of her taupe suit.

I so wish I could go back in time to the 1940's and the 1950's and dress like these women, and live in a house from that era (like the Leave It To Beaver) house, and drive a car from those eras, and dress up just to go shopping, and dress up to cook dinner for the family.......
I want to do it all.
I feel so connected to these women and these eras....and I don't even know why.
Every time I see these kinds of videos I get that feeling of being so connected.
    It's really hard to explain.
I know someone out there knows what I'm talking about.
Would anyone care to comment back to me?
I know I can't be the only one who feels this way.

Covergirl with Rita Hayworth is an amazing movie. And I just love Audrey Hepburn in Funny Face. She is my constant inspiration in my work and as a human being.

What has happened to fashion and beauty. Woman aren't tasteful anymore and clothing fashion as gone silent for 25 years. Up into the 90 each decade has its distinct look, but those days are gone. The beauty part of women is gone as well. Even though most of us could never afford high fashion it was fun to look at. When you see women on the red carpet they all look alike. Maybe Kate Middleton has go fashion but nothing new. I want to see one of those beautiful pink dresses at 11:46 on someone. Girls look up to women like Miley Cyrus, or Beyonce, God help us.

I've seen all of those movies. My two favorites were "Women" and "Funny Face"..Oh why can't we have women that dress these days? Pajama's and slippers are the best they can pull out.

ed, no, not all of us wear only slippers or pajamas (and what if we did?). There are many reasons why women don't dress like this nowadays. First, very few women in the world can afford tailored clothes. Second, a lot of us today find fur is not elegant but only cruel and useless (women used to wear a lot of fur back then). Other reasons are :
      - It is almost impossible (I'm speaking about France) to wear a skirt or a dress in the street without being harassed, men act as if they have never seen a pair of legs, it's pathetic.
-We don't like to be whistled at and personnally I hate it, it's not flattering and it is usually what (some) men do when they are a group and women are walking alone, minding their own business. It only makes us want to go home and put on trousers for the rest of our life.
      - I'm tall and very thin, I will never forget the day I was passing a chinese restaurant, I was wearing a short skirt and three men passed near me, laughed and said "Give her a bowl of rice, she needs to eat" the three of them being so brave.
      Solution :
Long ago I adopted the Katharine Hepburn way to dress (I don't know if it makes sense, english is not my first language), I don't know if she really said "I always dressed as if I didn't give a damn" but I've made that quote my mantra and it has solved a lot of problems. There are some well-cut trousers and after at least a decade of "skinny jeans", many (affordable) brands are back to large trousers, realizing that yes, it is elegant. whew! better late than never.
I suppose you're a man, so just imagine for one minute what women's life is, sometimes. Men are maybe not as respectfull today as in the 40s and 50s.

      @@isamm5579 bravo. Well said.
Ed, in the 40s there was a clear definition between manual workwear and office wear. Only manual wear (jeans for the farm in this montage) was practical. Housewives had pinafores or housedresses for domestic work and expected to wear something prettier when going out. That allowed them to keep the pretty clothes in good order. Hats and gloves were de rigueur but are considered fussy now.
Sold as a bid to improve practicality and comfort a lot of good tailoring has been lost to simplify manufacturing. Hopefully, the current interest in retro fashion will convince more to buy less and enjoy wearing a better quality wardrobe.
Wolf whistles always happened I'm afraid. Thankfully, men are learning and I rarely hear it near young women unless they're already known.

Women have grown lazy, not all but most. I would love to dress like this every day however, I was born in the wrong era. Mind you, I still have extremely feminine things like jeweled brooches, lace hand fans, sun hats with wide brims, leather gloves with pearl buttons and an endless collection of heels and dresses. What's happens when I were such things other women typically look at me like, "whom does she think she is"? Funny...
I live in North Dakota as well, not a mecca for Chanel, Carolina Herrera or Valentino so it's very difficult to find an occasion or opportunity to get all gussied up. There are days I just can't help but put on my best summer dress, the largest sun hat i have which extends 6" past my shoulders and some crystal chandelier earrings all while visiting my favorite store, Tractor Supply. 🤣🤣🤣
I'm 42 years old but remember watching re-runs of a great show named Green Acres. That is literally my life here North Dakota.
