My previous year's training which was just to get fit and which kept evolving but settled on 2 HIT and 2 endurance sessions mid week followed a long ride on Sunday was good enough for me to do audaxes comfortably and also ride up mountains.
This year i have set myself the goal of performing the Super-Randonneur so at least one of a 200km, 300km, 400km and 600km audax.
The change in training this year is quite drastic, i am waking up at 5:00am to put in 1-2 hours of easy riding every week day. I am keeping in the HIT sessions they will be in the evenings and I am doing some quite serious work on my general strength and core. Waking isn't a problem, but getting to the bike is, however it's getting easier, usual stuff, kit at the side of the bed, also whilst cycling indoors watching the last 2 hours of all the WT races i missed last year.
i haven't done a single test of power, ftp or ramp test, i don't have to, i know i'm getting fitter and faster and stronger. i also have resisted the temptation of weighing myself, again it's quite easy to notice the accumulated changes over time, needing smaller waist trousers, etc, etc - pity my feet don't shrink as well.
Haven't changed the bike at all, it's relatively crap by current standards - aluminium, heavyish, non-aero wheels - but that doesn't bother me as much as the people who i pass going up the hills and mountains near me, though that isn't the point as i have the eyes on the prize, the SR medal.
If i manage the SR, then i plan to gift myself a cycling holiday, Pyrennes or Alpes, so it's a massive motivation for me to succeed. I have given myself the first half of the year to complete the SR entering audaxes with increasing distances as the year proceeds. This will hopefully give me some latitude to make up a distance later in the year should something go wrong as it inevitably will.
    well you did ask. . . .

I am using Join since a few month. In my opinion it is pretty expensive but the adjustability of the training plan is a great feature when you need to be flexible.

Reason 1. I’m getting old. No way I’m riding faster than I was 20, 15 or even 10 years ago. Not for lack of trying but that’s life.

There's nothing wrong with owning a nice bike. Seems to be a lot of salty people like yourself that cannot afford a new bike constantly on the attack. Go work harder to make more money or get over it. Let the rest of us enjoy our NEW bikes.
