Have you seen that BH2 microphone by Jz? Wooo I really want one. The sound on that mic is amazing! That Telefunken sounds good! The Neumann TLM 103 is a classic. I have had mine for about 2 years now. Great video Lxgend!
I have! Actually made a video on that one a while ago: th-cam.com/video/DEfoLEZHIbE/w-d-xo.html&pp=ygUQanogYmgyIGlhbWx4Z2VuZA%3D%3D I'm thinking about copping this TLM 103 myself. The Soyuz I was hoping for more but that vintage sound of it makes it a bit of a niche microphone in my opinion. It has some dirt on the vocal if you know what I mean, it's a bit grimey so I only liked it for my rap vocals. Telefunken I'd def get myself if it didn't have this box although I know a mic usually stays on/by the desk anyway but knowing me... I'M GONNA WANNA BE MOBILE! Lol. Thank you for this comment.
I have a U87ai and the TLM 103 and I use the TLM more than the U87. The TLM is a beast of a microphone and bought used is an amazing value. Just check to make sure it is not a cheap clone.
First of all, at least 8 albums recorded on that 1st mic?? Man I gotta rate highly your hustle!! Bro I’m over here full of talent and with zero songs released. Absolutely painful to admit! Secondly thanks homie for the vid. If I could I’d probably go for the Soyuz 17 tube but that’s definitely out of my pocket. I searched for a while and I had a Telefunken TF51 for a month and like it but wasn’t completely in love and then I was debating between the Soyuz Fet 017 vs the Neumann TLM 67 which apparently sounded nearly identical because of the mids. It was so hard to choose but ultimately I was like if I don’t like the Neumann I’ll return it and get the Soyuz instead. Fact is I did like the Neumann a lot. It finally got me in that pro sound ball park range. I was and am really impressed. And it truly is the best so far for me with sibilance so that’s a mayor plus. The thing is that what if the Soyuz is better lol? And is kicking my ass. I have about 2 days to return this one and get the Soyuz 017 instead and your video doesn’t make it any easier lol Anyway I just wanted to vent and congratulate ya on a great video. Thanks!
Is that the one that can replicate any microphone? If so, I haven’t used it but I love the concept and it’s one I actually considered getting myself but I wasn’t sure if I needed UAD plugins to make it work. I don’t have any of those which is why I stay away mostly.
I’ve watched this video a few times now coming back to it as I’m researching my next acquisition. I hear some low resonances in the TLM 103 I think it’s kick bleed from your monitor/headphone mix. What a sensitive mic. I like the TLM second best on your voice in this example but after processing the Soyuz just sounds (subjectively) way better than all the others. Is all the processing the same for each mic or are the different tracks EQ and compressed differently from one another?
What happened to the bluebird? Didn’t make the video? The bluebird is an excellent mic. Sound is competitive to the TLM at a quarter of the price. Here the OC16 sounded best in your space.
I still have the bluebird but dont use it anymore. OC16 + Bluebird both sound good but In tests the TLM 103 was better than both. Higher price tag, yes, but the point of this video for me was moreso about quality as opposed to value. That’s why I had $3,000 mics in the mix. If I were to make a vid about value, half of these microphones wouldn’t have been used. I was in the process of upgrading my microphone so I approached it from that standpoint: which is better than my bluebird at a somewhat reasonable price? I stuck with the TLM 103. But yea the OC16 had some sort of faint artifacts on my vocals, sort of like the sound you get when you download a low quality mp3. It’s not possible to hear to the average person let alone me, but because I was doing tests in isolation I noticed the difference. The bluebird is also good but is not as crisp as the TLM 103. I preferred the crisp sound.
I've not heard that mic before but if it ain't broke don't fix it. Once upon a time I saved up enough scratch to buy a legit C414 only to find out I actually liked the budget P420 better for my stuff. Then a few years later my band did this thing for a Squeeze tribute album where we tracked everything in our home studio and then brought the stems in to be mixed by Jack Endino. During the mixing session he tells me for my range, I should seriously consider trying an SM58 instead of a condensor at all. 😅 What can I say, dude was right and now that's just what I use whenever I record something in that same type of vein. Try b4 you buy I guess. 🤷♂️
You have to Try. My thing is, it took me 10 years to upgrade my mic. But I’m at the stage now where I want an upgrade. It’s not a purchase you should be making every few years but at some point you’re gonna grow and want something that can give you a better quality sound. And when that time does come, then you’ll know how to decide. I did a video a few years back on a $50 fifine. Great company.
You ask me too many music questions, I can’t check them all. I don’t know which one to read. You have to send me just one message. Otherwise I can’t read everything.
@@IAMLXGEND And this question as a TH-cam tutorial why are Album viewed as one big story with your answer It is a cohesive collection of songs used to tell a bigger theme or project an overall vibe. It was a pleasure to test out the microphone! And it is indeed a beauty 🤌🏾

Absolutely, if buying used (which I do a lot) yea. That’s why with music equipment I normally just get them used from a reputable store.

I’m on the fence rn between the U87Ai & the FET 17. Found 2 used at around $2k each so I can go either way, just hard to decide on which one
I bought the UAD SPHERE DLX, what did you think about it ?

Lxgend do you find it better singing sitting on a chair or standing up ?

@IAMLXGEND if you had to choose between the UA87Ai or the 017 FET, which one you going with for rap vocals?
Never used a UA87Ai so I couldn’t answer that one
I'm sitting over here recording my raggedy album with a $30 Fifine mic 🥴
Same
