Our state is in a battle to start earlier in August, there's been a state law for 20 years that they can't start before the 25th. The tourist industry sues every time a school board tries to change the date, but a few counties have persisted and managed to set their own calenders.
I agree with addison on the mechanical pencils! I bought those kind one time and used them for like 6 years and still have some even though i graduated 6 years ago. They last so long for me and the other mechanical pencils hurt my hands. I would get the other ones to lend out to people
I went to college after having kids so I’d use their leftover school supplies every year. The only thing I ever bought for myself was the nice mechanical pencils because Addison is right, your handwriting is better with a good pencil. ✏️
I really miss shopping for school supplies. I have kids going on 50 years old. When I went to college I bought for myself. My grandkids always had the school district providing supplies. Including iPads! When I went to school, K-12, 1961 - 1974, CALCULATORS weren’t invented yet. In first grade we used ABACUSES 🧮 for “ARITHMETIC “. School Crayon boxes only had 8 Crayons. None of them had white crayons. And we used Fountain pens, 🖋️ that didn’t have erasers! I had Nuns in elementary school. We all thought they didn’t have feet. Restrooms were called lavatories. We could only use the drinking fountain on lavatory breaks. Milk was $0.05 Ice cream was $0.10. Lunches were $ 0.50. In Detroit Public Schools. Middle School, & High School, we took vocational, and home economics classes. Typewriters were manual. Girls only wore dresses, or skirts, until mid 70’s. Times sure have changed.
August 1st, damn that's early. I grew up in New England and we started after Labor day. We got vacation for Thanksgiving, Christmas, February and April and got out around the end of June.
I taught a high school class called Independent Living. One of the projects was to plan what you would eat for a week and make a grocery list. There were “staples” already on your “shelf”. My students were really bad about NOT checking to see what was already on hand. Your kids are getting a great lesson on checking what is already on hand.
Holy smokes there is ALOT of stationary. What we do here in South Africa is is called back a buddy. We make 2 packets up for our child in school. 1 is for your kid and 1 is for a kid that can't afford it. That would be a nice way to help other kids not all parents can afford stationary. Your children are blessed to have everything hope they appreciate it.

it’s been so long, i’ve watched you guys since i was in elementary school. I’m a junior in High school. Everyone has grown up so much. and the kids i grew up watching are grown with their own families. these are the videos i love so much! every year was so fun watching the kids pick their school supplies.
Why not buy clear pouches that can hold the color pencils and crayons and then fill them up instead of buying new ones. I feel like that’s a waste. Why buy a new ones because then you’ll have abundance of them. I like two years from now or you could donate the ones that are already open to people that need them. I did I reused my color pencils every year I put them in a pencil pouch, same thing with my crayons instead of buying new ones every year
I think they the new ones are for the kids to take to school and keep together in their bag whereas the tub of color pencils is for at home use so they can use any and all colors
I agree about the waste if you even prefer you can get empty crayon boxes. Sorting the colors of crayons and pencils pretty easily. Have the kids .ake a game out of it.
Yep our schools are poor. Barely pay our teachers what they deserve. We even have to buy things like paper towels, hand sanitizers and Kleenex for the class in general. It's crazy.

(I think you call them composition books) They rarely leave the classrooms they are from and you do all the work for that subject in that book so nothing needs filing away so we don’t use any binders or anything. Some people get rubbers but it’s not needed, most teachers will give you one and we hardly ever use them as no one really writes in pencil. We only need to buy binders and our own paper in years 12/13 (16-18yo) but no where near as excessive as the states as the school still give a fair amount.
Great video! Having a stock pile saves a lot of money especially for big families like yours! Maybe you can fill a couple of backpacks and donate them for foster children.❤
Addison and Aubrey I agree with you about needing the right pens and pencils to write nicely. I also like using different colours as well. I was a teacher and in most schools in my country every school puts their stationary lists in the hands of a stationary chain shop which means there is no chance for our students to use what they like. I used to give my students their lists early so they can get what they prefer to write with if they wanted to. I always loved stationary shopping and still to this day at the beginning of the year I stock up on things I generally need and a few I don't need but buy because it's cute. Our school year starts in February after the summer/Christmas 6 week break.
I recommend next year having them shop the home supplies one at a time like you did backpacks a few years ago then taking them 1-3 at a time to the store with their lists to get the rest.

Aubrey there are so many people the graduated in 2020 that missed prom which I feel needs to be an experience so if you stay homeschooled, you might regret not having that experience and Jared will miss out on that experience too and where are you going to get a social life if you’re homeschooled? I was sad not to get a prom and the fact that you’re choosing to miss out on that is crazy. I hope you think about this and change your mind when senior year comes because prom is a very important part of a teens life.
Online school wasn't available when I was a teen. I went to school dances, but was always self-conscious and didn't enjoy it at all. I have better memories of my University years.
I don't regret not going to my high school prom and I don't believe it's a important part of a teens life. School isn't the only way for kids to socialize. There are neighborhoods, churches, scouts, youth league sports, etc for kids to socialize.

Wow, August 1st, that was a quick summer. It's so good to see everyone. I am not trying to be negative, Nelly, but I fund kids that do home schooling seem to be so lost after they get out of school. They need that socialization every year they are maturing, Max said he was sorry he was home schooled and missed out particularly his senior year.
My highschool only had gym lockers. We had a set of books at home and books in classes so we didn't have to cary heavy text books back and forth from home to school.

Wow that's really early to start school. I don't remember when did the kids get out? I bought 144 pencils for $9.00 when our daughter was in preschool. She still has a ton of them left and she's now a sophomore in high school. We even send a bunch to friends for their three kids. I feel for Aubrey our daughters "so called friends to unalive herself". So she is doing online again this year. That's really hard to make friends not in person. I hope all the kids have an awesome school year.
I’m so jealous, we aren’t allowed to have plastic bags in Delaware. A few stores had compostable ones but they all stopped. Our Walmart does regular paper bags. My sister brings me some from Virginia when she visits 😂😂🙌🏻

I think she's getting into acting so it may be easier to do online school so she's more flexible as far as scheduleing

A tip on mechanical pencils: the #9 lead ones don't break as easily, and are considered a # 2 pencil, which is used in many multiple choice tests.

Wow, you go back early. Where I live in Iowa, they don't start back until August 23rd. That is due to the State Fair that is from the 8-18.
They get out in early May for summer. That's why they go back in August.

Do hope the ink on those pens haven't dried up though. :)) Happens to us over here. So we always make sure to try them all and see which ones are still good.
Make sure you check the glue sticks before you pack them. I've had issues where they dry out from sitting for a long time
