Far-right, also known as right-wing extremism or the radical right, refers to a spectrum of political ideologies and movements that are radically conservative, ultra-nationalist, and authoritarian in nature

    • @L1LP0E

And YET the monopoly on authoritarianism is historically held by the left wing. The only sort of example I can find of a right wing authoritarian regime is perhaps papa doc duvalier. The rest have pretty much entirely been socialist/communist aka the LEFT. Seems to me the side that's "authoritarian in nature" as you do eloquently stated, would be the left given the history

With respect to extremism I suggest you read Ayn Rand's 1964 essay Extremism or The Art of Smearing. It’s free on the web and still relevant.

Wrong. Donald Trump won the election in 2016 despite being extreme. He won because of misinformation spread by rightwing sources. His recent felony convictions outlined the extent to which his campaign spread lies and covered up facts during his campaign.
And he managed to convince millions of people to vote for his extremism, his corruption, and his criminal actions.
The far right is extreme. We now have women traveling across state lines to seek medical care because of the rightwing extremism present on our highest court.

On the term "Far Right" - I'll say if your labeling the common citizens suffering under a wave of immigration that is both dangerous and unsettling, if you call thsese suffering citizens "Far Right" - then you've bought into a Left wing trope which is a slurr.
Instead of name calling you should dialogue with those on the right.
You might find many find to be aware, concerned for their country and safety, the economy, national security, rational policies, and they have a "Healthy Nationalism!"
Nationalism is not a dirty word, it implies a love of country and fellowman. Hoping for all countries to love their people and nation and cooperate with other free and democratic nations in - Trade, Commerce, Defense, Education, Tourism, Intermarriage, etc., etc.
The individual nation state I believe is the most sensible vehicle or organization to govern large groups of people in distinct geographic areas.
They can retain their harmless local customs, traditions and languages with legislation not from a far away unelected orgainzation but from local politicians close to the people and accountalbe.
This model mostly worked post WW2, not perfect but quite good.
I'll stop there. Stay well Rising hosts, enjoy the summer!

Michael is one of my favorite intellectuals actually tacking important issues and getting to the root of the problem. Getting to the root of what is important and matters, supposedly what the radicle left is stands for, but has forgotten caring only for their own power, wealth, and social status built on destroying their opposition. His views, along with James Lindsey and Douglas Murray, made me realize I am a classical liberal, which is why I find the left infuriating today standing in the way of real good progress, instead dividing us more than ever creating systems of oppression for the common person. But my views will be seen as far right, even though they are more center left! 😂

I voted left for years and am what would be referred to as a classic liberal……and yet the left wing media would call me far right……and yet my views have been the same for years and in previous years aligned with the left’s political policies. The party has completely flipped on most everything. The left actually used to champion limited immigration….videos of Biden can easily be found in prior decades where he and Clinton were all about closed borders. 🤷‍♀️This is just one example.

People in the US misunderstand what is happening in the EU.
Firstly the EU, In terms of population, is huge. It has about 440 million people - almost the same as the populations of the USA (330m) and the Russian Federation ( 150m ) combined.
The best projections that I can find predict only around 25% of MEPs in the new EU parliament will be what the American press label as 'far-right', and the individual groups are hopelessly divided on policy. Considering them agglomerated as a single entity is very misleading.
Secondly most EU countries have a plethora of parties. The tendency has been that the right unite under a single banner, while the centre and left remain fragmented.
The rise of the right therefore is not as dramatic as the media would have you believe.

That's not really true though. Sweden, the Dutch & Poland have all called for referendum's on leaving the eu. After watching what the eu has done I don't understand why anyone would want to stay. The president of the eu is VERY similar to California's gruesome, who'd want to live under him as president???

"far right" and "radical left" are just labels relative to the status quo. Both sides are an emerging populism reacting to the long term effects of neoliberalism--a globalized capitalism that has dominated for the last forty years. Both sides have some legitimate grievances, but are exploited for political gain by the use of wedge social issues and disinformation about climate change. This pushes them to opposite extremes when they actually have a lot of overlap in terms of economic issues. Climate change will accelerate immigration (this is already happening), and shutting down nuclear reactors in Germany was a terrible, terrible idea.

Extremism is closely linked to ignorance and backwardness, and I have noticed the great similarity between religious extremists and populist extremists. Usually, you find that the biggest extremists are those who have suffered from a loss of meaning in their existence, so they resort to religion or ethnic extremism to give meaning to their existence, and this type of extremists is easy to exploit. For example, some politicians exploit them to gain power.

Democracy protocols such as elections are not enough, especially with the dominance of two parties that represent two sides of the same coin! The main goal of democracy is the peaceful exchange of power and meeting the needs and aspirations of the people. The people have noticed that democracy has turned into a mere decoration behind which fraudsters who seek money and power instead of serving the people hide!
