Is a holiday weekend without Tony Walker even a holiday?! I think not...!
Thank you for making our Friday so much more fun 🎉
Definitely a Tony Tribe member. ❤
I really enjoyed this. I like the angel-like figure who saves the man. Getting the man to realize he is responsible for his own actions, and then the opportunity comes along for the man to change his life.
The words wax cylinders had a visceral effect on me. Reminded me of the movie "Crimson Peak." Scary!!
This reminds me of something I’ve been reading about lately: the “third man” syndrome, where someone feels an accompanying presence in emergencies or times of extreme distress. I like that Wallace left doubt at first about whether the man of the night was goading him into committing the crime or talking him out of it!
I really liked this story! It's just a lovely read and read by a master. Thank you!
This was a good one. I liked the fact that he was led to fishermen. I also wonder if the “we’ll get a better man” line could be interpreted to mean the protagonist could become a better man.
Now that's interesting....
I really like this interpretation!
This is a tidy little tale of the supernatural that is also food for thought - a morality tale, as you mentioned. I know of Edgar Wallace's work. I also knew Wallace had something to do with the film, "King Kong." Many thanks, Tony.
Thank you Tony!!
You are the Only channel where I hit the Like Button even before I listen!!😊❤
Same!
Me, too!
Me three!!!
Me too. 😊
Lol, I do it too ❤😂
Good on you, Tony! I ❤ your work!
Bravo for ignoring the haters 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾. Deleting the negative comments deprives the scumbags of the attention that they seek.
Thank you! I’m definitely with you!😄
Yes, "Classic Stories" sticks! Keep it going.
Thank you, loved it.
Thank you, Tony. Haven't heard this one before.
I liked this story. I will be looking for other stories and books by this author.
Story ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Perfect Narration ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐❤️
Tony does have a great voice for reading. And of course you can fall asleep hearing a good story read by a good voice. But there's something of an ambiguous compliment in the phrasing, a good voice for sleeping.
Yippie! Thank you so much Tony!!!!!
You literally brought tears to my eyes when you said how you would comfort Callie 😢💜
😭😭Me too!!
@@violetfemme411 Same Here!!
Although when Jasper Mutt is Dreaming,,,,
I'm sure he is chasing Dream Bunnies!!
( to make friends with them!!)
"...I dunno, that tough-guy act wasn't particularly convincing..." KIDDING! 😉
I once heard it said that it takes seven complements to recover from the damage of a single criticism. I think, for me personally, the ratio 14-to-1 or even worse. For what it's worth, I really admire what you do and I'd be doing the very nearly same thing myself (although probably not doing it as well) if paying the bills didn't soak up so much of my time, energy, and creativity.
Currently, my favorite genre is "occult detective," so I feel doubly lucky that you've got a ghost (and horror) podcast duelling with a detective podcast over which one gets to popularize great stories like these.
Please keep doing what you're doing, Tony! You're a kind, friendly voice to all of us and an inspiration to many of us! Also, keep pursuing Shelia's crystal gongs! I know how she feels (in fact, stage fright is why I (so far) haven't recorded any vocal music) but seriously, if it sounds good and you've got decent mics, then record it! If it was calming, healing music the instant it was made, then there is a good chance it will "reverberate" through youtube (via replays, recommendations, etc.) and benefit an even greater audience.
Sadly the naysayers never really had a chance to personally benefit from the creation. Their only joy of choice is schadenfreude. They are just the stony ground through which creative folks must trudge. They cannot move themselves, so their only hope is to cause a brief flash of misery to a passerby. That makes your defence the best choice -- just avoid them whenever you can, and, if they ever manage to get into your shoes, take a moment to shake them out of there, leave them in the dust, and resume your journey.
I agree if people don’t like wat you doing them they should move on. We are all individual not robots. I admire u. I also love reading and I’m currently writing a novel. I’m thinking instead of getting it published I should just read it out in increments on a podcast
Loved this one! (As always!)
Thanks for your hard work
We’re with you! Love your channels!
Found Tony just a few months ago (early 2024) at the detective stories and appear to be working backwards ... really enjoy his narration (more i think than the guest narrators). Only thing unwanted is those humble preambles to his interesting and amusing commentaries at the end. Always well done! I give small donations when I can. Hope you will too. ... and anyone who loves dogs is ok with me (well, most of 'em anyway).
Thank you for another wonderful read. ❤ hope you had a nice 4th of July.
He's British 😛, maybe Guy Fawkes day
Just as captivating, thought provoking this time around. Thanks so much for all your hard work for us, Tony. Much needed and appreciated,
An Edgar Wallace mystery, nice one Tony. I will sing the theme tune just before listening 😊
If you could see my face!
It's a bit 😮. Spooky...
I was about to listen to this story, and listened to 5 minutes of ad's then thought, No. I'd like some music first, so I listened to the Fisherman's Friends. 😮
Loved this story, it was a happy end and I like the idea of Angels walking with us.
"Gabriel before me."
"Raphael behind me."
"Michael to my right."
"Uriel on my left side."
"In the circle of fire."
Stay tough Tony. 🧡🧡🧡
This is why Tony's commentary at the end of the video is my favorite part! I honestly did not think it was an angel. I thought it was a demon or his dark inner conscious.
This was very enjoyable! Great reading as usual. Thanks so much, from a member of Tony's tribe.
Great story and narration!
I continue to be baffled and angry about why the company owned by the failed astronaut did what they did to you.
Thanks for doing what you do! You do amazing work! Thanks!!
Good for you, Tony, standing up to Amazon. I wish more people would. I've loved your channel since I found it early this year, and now I love it even more!!
Just wanted to say Tony that I love listening to your TH-cam and podcasts and I think your idea about past lives and memories are real and still alive made me tear up. I thought about old friends and my cat tiger. I miss him everyday Ty
I'm just reading some plays by J B Priestley and he has some interesting ideas about time which seem very comforting.
Hi Tony i think your sorry,s are great so thank u from CMC.
Thank you Tony for all the information about Edgar Wallace.
Thank you Tony, you are a true gem and talent, and I love and appreciate your work.
Thank you 🙏
I liked your reading VERY much. Great literature is not always a requirement for enjoyment.Imagination can soar regardless of the structure.Thank you.
What a great voice for sleep! Appreciate the story choices too.
Thank you!
Me laughing at 3:15 am to you telling negative Nellie’s to get lost. Love it!
You are the best! Thank you for reading these stories.
Thank you Tony for all that you do! Long-time listener/subscriber here from Dallas here. I love the fact that you wrap up every story with an update on your life (I'm about to graduate from nursing school, so I especially loved hearing about your time spent as a nurse) and I've learned quite a lot from your literary analyses as you discuss each story in-depth (lives of the authors, comments on style, your thoughts on what makes a short ghost story successful...) Again, many thanks, and best of luck going forward!
Thank goodness I was able to get on here with you and the guys. Hey from Virginia usa
Hello from Boston USA 👋🏾
Hey ya from Tasmania. 👋
Yes- new you! Me too!
Hello Sir. Thank you for your delectable stories. I especially enjoy the chats at the end. It's as if we were sitting by the fireside together. Never mind the gainsayers...all their taste is in their mouths!!❤
Wonderfully read. Thank you ❤
First!... to be afflicted by the psychological torment and moral uncertainty of this tale?
I really enjoy the particulars about the authors of the stories and what may have motived them. It makes for an enjoyable, personal listening experience. You are a step above your competitors.
I’ve spent too many hours in the Lands Between.
I haven’t allocated enough time for my tale teller!
Wow - the Stranger of the Night sounds like a "must hear"!! Btw, that short story that viewer (Van de something) recommended was so scary and GOOD! lol I really liked it! I forget who the author was but if you can read more of that person, I'd love it! A big fan from across the pond! Love you, Tony!! Wow, great East End accent!! You do great accents, btw! I am very impressed!
Nice to hear
I was listening to another podcast and at the end I wished there was the explanation/ critique of the story like you do.
Thinking I must be thick headed because sometimes I need that explanation.
😂 Me too!
I like what you do 😊
Don‘t listen to criticisms: your stuff is perfect.
thank you . i try to deleted them now
Hey Tony, catching up on your stories, just listened to… The TELEPHONE, da dum daaah!!! - They’d have NEVER gotten away from the bloody thing TODAY, if only they knew, lol. I expected him to have not been there when the dude came to disconnect and she called out, thought he’d have been a ghost. Cheers!
Tony ignore the trolls. Your podcasts are great carry on the good work and thanks.👍
Got me with that one, I was sure it would turn out HE was the ghost and had earlier drowned himself in the river. I think a few signs hinting that were deliberately planted?
You made me howl with the comment about giving out free rum being a bad idea - as the policeman told you... Great comic timing.
Has it been five years?! Lordy❤
Good story, agree with you about the mention of profession would have been better at the beginning, more a full circle route. Great chat too
You are my favorite! I would love to hear The Oakleigh Ghost (1900) by Annie Armitt
LOL~!! That is EXACTLY what I thought---and in exactly that tone of voice, Tony---your "new-fangled detective stories channel" !!! This story was 'meh', but I always enjoy your finessed interpretation as narrator as well as Our Man's Ramble at the end. Thank you.
Robert Louis Stevenson's 'Markheim' is very similar, but more dialogue-heavy and more ambiguous about the nature of the stranger.
Is the shanty you're thinking of 'The Gallant Frigate Amphitrite'? The name Valparaiso made me think of the line 'Farewell to Valparaiso, farewell for a while.'
First . 🙏
Tony Walker making Americans comment with a British accent since 2019😘
What story is the "locked drawer" clip from? It sounds neat.
Actually, he doesn't explain anything to the other man/angel; he just jumps right in and speaks to him as though he already had.
❤❤
I have read a little bit in these comments about your troubles with Amazon and audible. I understand the expense of having good lawyer. I wonder if you could get the writers guild intervene for you even if you are not a member. Also there's an organization completely non-profit and idealistic called Writers Beware that opposes any kind of scam or unfairness against writers. They have taken action and Chief Fair outcomes in many cases. I think your problem might be in your belly but I couldn't say for sure. You should ask them.
I wish you would link your other channels in the description. 😁
they are at the bottom of the page on youtube
Do you think it possible did the stranger is not an angel but Jesus himself, the Lamb about which he had just been waiting on the sign of the wall?
I think that the problem is that the nay-sayers say things that we already tell ourselves, so it's more likely that we will believe them that all the people who make positive comments. I suppose that means that we must practice saying lots of good things about ourselves so that we eventually believe them.
Tony it’s the save
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I hope you keep the though guy attitude because I felt offended that you gave more weight to negative comments than the people who appreciate your stories and explanations. It's a free masterclass after a free story
