That's really useful, I was wondering where I wanted to solder my voltmeter, I think I'll attach mine to the rev switch, especially on my Rayvens, maybe on the jam door on my Stryfes, I got a few of different colours, depending on the colour of the paint-job I decide to do. Thanks for the video, invaluable as always. You should do the braids you had in your beard more often, it suits you! I finally got around to making an intro to my videos (the latest being on the Kronos I want to K26!) Have a great weekend my friend, take it easy and thanks for the advice.
Could you please do a video on a 3 switch rapidstrike. I understand the advantage if it, but I have never gotten a clear set if instructions on how it is wired up
I have a request. i have been checking out your basic modding videos like first mod, how to rewire a stryfe, and i intend to watch your painting basics video soon. but could you please also make a video showcasing a few flywheels and cages, and talking about how to pick out which ones to use in a mod, and what to look for? or if such a video already exists, please point me towards it. i think this would be invaluable for new modders.
Suggestion for mod tips, air blasters like the xbz. How to replace the pump with a bike pump, adding an electric pump, adding pressure gage, having both electric and hand punp, and alternative way to fire it. If you few XBZs to work on, that could be arranged.
I have been modding springers for a while and I want to start modding flywheel blasters. My question that I have is what kind of soldering iron should I get?
On a rayven where would you recommend installing the voltmeter? In the stock or in the part that rises to make the carry handle (like on the assault rifle from halo)
Dear captain x this is Brian’s or know to you viperprins Mom he has sadly pasted away from cancer he wanted me to tell you that he had always been wanting to see you in person and go in a war with you send your prayers to are family please sincerely Jamie hill
I am so very sorry to hear that. I wish I could have met him. I will write his name on the first dart I fire at the next war I attend in remembrance of him. You have my condolences. Chaylo (aka Captain Xavier)
Cap you should show you going to the store and showing people how to find good tools and other odds used for nodding.. in my group we all just use what we can find witch is fine but maybe a video of you showing how u pick out the tools that u use?
@Captain Xavier- as far as power is concerned, how do you feel about IMR vs NIMH? I have several Lipos as my other hobby is RC cars/trucks/drones but I have IMR and NIMH i can use in my son's blaster. I'm using 2 IMR+2 dummies which seems to have less Watt-hours than 4 Eneloops. Would it be better to run the NIMHs over IMRs or is there something I'm missing mathematically? Thank you
I have never used NIMH so I could not say. IMRs are going to have a fairly short run time on Flywheel blasters. They just are not designed for that. I only use them in my secondaries that get much less use than my primary. For a Primary flywheel you really want a LiPo or you are going to be changing them several times during any normal use game. That is my experience anyway.
Hey, love your vids. This seems like the best place to ask as any. I come from the race drone hobby world and we deal with higher voltage and much higher current draw than what I'm finding when upgrading to, lets say neo rhino. For smaller quads with 3's 450mah-1000mah we use xt30's and they use 4 motors that pull 27a on avg. I'm wondering why doesn't everyone change out their lipo connectors to xt30 connectors instead of the standard xt60s. They can handle a continuous current of 30a and a burst of 60a. They also are ideal for 16 - 18 gauge wire. Am I missing something or is it just people want to deal with. I'd love to have the extra space. It's a massive size diff.
I cannot put images in youtube comments. I would recommend you watch my video on how switches work and apply it to a volt meter. Or watch my video on how to rewire a Stryfe and just replace the flywheel assembly with the volt meter. Negative (usually marked with a - or a black wire) from the battery goes to the black wire on the volt meter. Positive (usually marked with a + or a red wire) from the battery goes to the "Normally Open" (usually marked NO) pole on your switch. You then connect the "Common" (usually marked with COM) pole on the switch to the red wire on the volt meter. If your switch only has 2 poles then it doesn't matter which pole goes to were as long as it interrupts the positive circuit.
Hey captain, also make sure any voltmeter bought is looked at close, I have had 4 out of 20 have the red and black wire backwards, so the volt rev showed up after rev was let go for a split sec, it was crazy thought I had wired it wrong, this was my case any way.
captain x i am a new Nerf modder and just got two stampedes and would love (if u still do commission ) a stampede custom mod also love your channel keep up the good work.
@@CaptainXavier The ones I have must be different then, cause they have 3 leads, 2 for power and one for the source they are measuring. Thanks though for letting me know that they can take the Lipo. :3
I have a question. Is there a voltage that is unsafe when using a LiPo, or a normal voltage? Just want to know. (Might start a cool project, just need to work up the nerve...)
It all depends on the motors you are running. You need to match the voltage to the motors or get motors that run at the voltage you want. 7v or 12 is pretty much standard for Nerf. Much beyond that and you get blasters that most wars won't even allow. Some events have no limits so you can go nuts.
Yeah, it still qualifies as an "after burner." Love of people have done them. Lance Alderson's "Deplorable" is my favorite. It is a Vulcan with a built in afterburner. Works great and looks awesome!
Hi Cap! Me and my went to our local savers to find some nerf blasters. We found a strongarm a flipfury and a reverse tac rail pistol (i forgot the name). I would have the flipfury but i gave it to my brother because his birthday was coming up. But later during the day i found at i had a damage blaster. My strongarm barrel will not rotate. im scared to open it to see whats wrong. So i ask you what do you recconmed i should do? i looked around on the web, im thinking about returning it for store credit. thanks for reading.
That is probably your best bet if you do not want to try to fix it. It might be as simple as the rotation mech being misaligned or something in side might be totally broken.
So, I installed a voltage meter in my Stryfe. Thanks Captain! I've got a Zippy 2S LiPo 1000mah and Fang Motors from OutOfDarts. At what minimum voltage should I stop firing my blaster and charge my battery?
SquidMakesVids I'm only 12 and made a 177 FPS pump action longshoremen with brass breach (anyway the point is age is not a determining factor for skill)
To tell you the voltage of your batteries. I thought I mentioned the purpose in the video. If you are using rechargeable batteries you do not want to drain them past a certain point or they will no longer recharge. So it is a good idea to have either a voltmeter or a voltage alarm in the system. And they look cool. :P
Captain Xavier well then good sir I look forward to facing off against you in combat (Look for the guy with the sheild and an fdl2 and possibly a nerf naginata 😉)
Cool! I didn't know the FDL2 was considered stock...but I guess it is technically 100% custom and thus not technically a modified blaster. The rules state that off brand blasters are "highly discouraged" but not technically banned. See you there! :D
They are highly discouraged but I’ve been at last two wars at Jared’s epic Nerf war two I counted at least 100 off brand blasters just on my side of the field i’m also keeping it low power since you won’t believe the amount of little kids there is there are. Nevertheless see you there. ad Victoriam
Then you did it wrong. It sounds like you created a short circuit somewhere. It should just be: Bat Neg > Meter Neg Bat Pos > Switch NC Switch COM > Meter Pos
I was honestly shocked you were going to make a video on volt meters. Mostly because i thought they were mostly self explanatory. . . . but then again i have a back ground in robotics. . . .sooo. . . . .

"I wanted it blue cos the blaster is blue" makes sense
Write that down, write that down!

a good mod tips subject may be constucting things that are parallel to blasters. Like shields, helmets, gear in general

Carry handle imo. I'm doing a flat top rayven, so I'm putting a 3s lipo in the stock and putting the voltage meter on the battery door
Dear Cap. X are there any problems with wiring your voltmeter directly from the battery, and if so what are they?
This was the video I needed a right about a year ago. Would have made the 'aha' moment for the circuitry come a whole lot faster.

Were do you get volt meters
Ebay, Amazon, AliExpres. Take your pick
Out of darts Etsy has a combo alarm/volt meter.
i would guess any sort of Radio Shack-like electronically inclined hobby store would likely have them too

Possibly a Monday Mod Tips on different power supplies. Most other guides I've seen have been either vague or condescending.

No idea. I am not an electrical engineer. Half of what you said meant nothing to me.
LOL. No worries, I wasn't sure if you had heard anything on another video.
Very helpful! Thanks :D
How do you wire a voltmeter to a momentary switch in a Stryfe?
The same way.
Bat Neg -> Meter Neg
Meter Neg -> Switch NO
Switch COM -> Meter Pos
@@CaptainXavier Can you provide a visual representation of the wiring process because I don't know what the connections mean.
I cannot put images in youtube comments. I would recommend you watch my video on how switches work and apply it to a volt meter. Or watch my video on how to rewire a Stryfe and just replace the flywheel assembly with the volt meter.

you should do a switch placement episode
Is it similar wiring for a battery level indicator? Thanks!
Yes
Hey captain, also make sure any voltmeter bought is looked at close, I have had 4 out of 20 have the red and black wire backwards, so the volt rev showed up after rev was let go for a split sec, it was crazy thought I had wired it wrong, this was my case any way.

Do you know if the voltmeters can be powered by the Lipo they are reading without any issues?
...that is how they work...they don't even have an option for a separate power source.
@@CaptainXavier The ones I have must be different then, cause they have 3 leads, 2 for power and one for the source they are measuring. Thanks though for letting me know that they can take the Lipo. :3

What’s your opinion on the Kris’s vector kit
It is cool. I love mine. :D
Can you do a can it take a K26 of a twinshock,tri-break and the surgefire

The voltmeters go up to 110 volts or so, so unless you stick the leads in a wall socket, you'll be fine
Basic modder's supply for all blaster types?
ooooh, I did tools...but not materials...good one
What is the difference between this and a voltage alarm? Thanks
Willem824 a voltage alarm makes noise.
What would happen if you had a low power spring blaster launch a dart into a high-speed flywheel set up all in one blaster?
ferretsrk afterburner deploy. If it's not a deploy well then it's a afterburner setup I think.
Yeah, it still qualifies as an "after burner." Love of people have done them. Lance Alderson's "Deplorable" is my favorite. It is a Vulcan with a built in afterburner. Works great and looks awesome!
Does it matter if you run negative through the switch or positive?
Depends on the circuit. If it is a simple Open/Close switch then it does not matter. If it is something more complicated it can matter.

How do you add alarm
It literally just plugs into the balance cable on the LiPo

Yes. Replace the spring.
