- SLEEPWALK - 2012 Arrangement
An old time beautiful classic first inspired by the Shadows LP version. This is a mixture of new and old versions so I hope you like it. Thanks to my Friend Phil McGarrick for the production of this video.
Fender 62 Stratocaster (Fullerton 1982 V Series) The Shadows Hank Marvin eftp Alesis Quadraverb Q2 .
Listening to this fabulous version of Sleepwalk......with misty eyes....having only just discovered that John Skelton sadly passed away in 2018....!!!!....His version of..Girl from Ipanema...is best I've ever heard...yet another sad loss...!!!!..RIP.
I start my morning off with this song every day. Just makes for a better day!
This is one of the better performances of this song...and I've heard tons. Wonderful playing. I was smiling the whole time.
That makes me smile too. All the best - keep on smiling...
John
Fabulous version of this classic and brings back so many memories of those days gone by!
Hauntingly eerie amd a true testament to a master of his tool. You make Santo amd Johnny proud.
Nice comment Alex, pleased about that.
John
Move over Hank! Most beautiful rendition!
To be honest.....This is the Best performance of Sleep Walk.... its like a medicine to calm down NUMBER1! Thanks a lot Awesome!!!!!!
I gotta say, this version was terrific. It joins the ranks of the best. You truly honored Santo & Johnny with this one. Thanks!
Music made with feeling, never dies !!! wonder !!!
+Alfredo Oliveira Pleased you liked it Alfredo - thanks.
John
Great song and arrangement
Oliveira sounds portuguese definitely great song
Lovely... I feel I'm floating on a cloud 🌹
They don't make em like that anymore. Thank you for bringing this wonderful tune back to life in such a beautiful version
Thanks Kim for those kind words.
John
Truely a wonderful sounding Stratocaster i love this version 🎸🎶
This is really an excellent top class cover, I wish I could play like that, the best ive heard
Quite simply The best version i have ever heard
Thanks Nathan. This was one of Jet Harris's favourites when I was in his band. I loved the old and new versions so I did this originally to his memory when he died. Hence the passion. Much appreciated.
John
One of... if not the best ever... re-make of this great piece of music!!!
Absolutely beautiful. Amazing clarity. This tune takes me back to my very happy childhood.
Thank you for taking the time to thrill us with your amazing musical talent.
Truly!
Oh absobloominglylutely
Words alone cannot describe this fabulous music keep playing please, thank you.
"Sleepwalk" has been my favorite since I first heard Santo & Johnny play it on American Bandstand.. I have heard, and enjoyed, several different arrangements and variations on the original. They have been good, but none that I would call better; until now, anyway. You, sir, have put so much heart into the presentation of this melody that this has moved me more than the original. Thank you.
Thank you Emile, that is a real compliment and very much appreciated.
John
With this guitar you can cross the border of the dream, playing as Geoff shows us in the close-up of this beautiful instructive video...
Thanks John. Having played in Jet Harris's Band in the late seventies/early eighties certainly helped my timing and feeling for music. He was a great inspiration to work with. Just continuing the promotion of the Shadows type music is always a pleasure.
Glad you liked it.
Regards,
John
I keep coming back to listen to who was one of my favorite TH-cam I subscribed to. RIP.
Peter.
The 70 people that gave a thumps down would do well to have their hearing checked. They're missing out on wonderful composition.
Good cover but not as cool as original.
Santo & Johnny first two 👎
Well....it's 246 deaf people already. Maybe they are just very upset because they can't hear how beautiful this sounds. It does not matter how you play Sleepwalk, it is a beautiful composition.
Just plan beautful. I Love this song.
Very relaxing listening to this music
.
Played with great feeling. A superb version of a classic, beautiful tune.
Philip Hawthorne Thanks Philip, that's very kind of you.
Regards, John
What a great rendition, FANTASTIC.
My favorite instrumental from a kid till now, and I'm 75. Nice job!
Love this rendition of the song. very well done.
This is...without a doubt...EXCELLENT musicianship and technique! Bravo!
So touching hearing this in your style and rendition. Listening to it on repeat to sleep to.
Very beautiful. .....I can't understand why anyone would not like it and give it a thumbs down.
One of the most beautiful instrumentals ever.
You did a great job, showing much respect to the original composition.
Beautifully executed.👍👍👍.
Beautiful! Just beautiful!
Just silk. I love it. Great job!
Hank B Marvin will be proud of your incredible interpretation sounding so much like Hank's amazing style. (not forgetting Bruce!) He and you are the greatest!🙂🎸
Still a pleasure to watch, A year later. I love the Emotion in every note. So nice to hear it again. Thank you for posting it. Have a happy holiday!
Nice that you are still enjoying this a year later. That is a very nice compliment which I appreciate very much. Happy holiday to you too.

Back to the year 1959 with a great new-vintage sound !

Prachtig gespeeld!!!,
My anti-depressant !

Incredible you took an already beautiful piece and added a new and wonderful dimension to it. I loved it and could listen to it again and again. Thank you
Sadly John Skelton passed away in 2018....!!!!!...RIP.
@@peteraustin370 making music in heaven now
Now this is what you call playing with feeling and having listened to Hank in detail. Congratulations.
Thanks Arden for those nice comments.
John
absolutely beautifully hypnotic! one of the best versions! Jeff Beck, bless him, but he's too harsh with this tune... it needs to be smooth, silky, and like I said, hypnotic... you nailed it, sir!!
This song is awesome no matter how many times I hear it and no matter how many different ways it's played. Nice job man!
Deric, I appreciate your kind comments, thanks.
John
stumbled upon this while surfing oldies.......absolutely stunning!
Wonderful performance. Real class.
Very nice version of a classic instrumental. A great song to to show off the tone of a Fender Stratocaster.
+Daniel Stoddart

C'est vrai ! FANTASTIQUE !!!
1000% en accord avec Tesla Tespala : Hank MARVIN est un modèle pour les "vrais" guitaristes, pas les "pignoufs"
This music makes me forget all my problems ,thank you sir.
Superb interpretation , performed with the right skills and sensitivity .

John
Absolutely Beautiful.
Well done. I really enjoyed that version. Matter of fact I enjoy listening to a good guitar player and this is a good guitar player. I play sleepwalk the Ken Mercer way, it's a little bit longer than the original but more to listen to. Thanks for posting.
Wow..beautipool and dreamy..great thats all l can say..Jeff Malaysia
A superb performance!! I have been watching different videos on TH-cam, but yours is outstanding, even better than of the professional, like Jeff Beck, Les Paul and so on...

+Paul Bartlett

Classic of the classics of the "guitar play". Thanks, The Shadows! Music that reminds me of the 60s, when good music actually existed...

Hello John, I've only just found your entries on you tube and I'm very glad I came across this one. Your 'Sleepwalk' is the most enjoyable and moving version I've heard.
Everyone should play a Strat. Kind regards John P.
perfect version of this old classic
Absolutely beautiful,Thank you !!!
Thanks for the great comment - appreciated.
John
Great man you nailed that takes you away doesn’t it
Wonderfull! Love it!
Sergio de Almeida Correa Thank you Sergio for those kind comments.
John
Thank you. I enjoyed listening to your version. I have not played in years due to my advanced age and I only repair the electronics of vintage guitars at cost and for the guitarist to play solo riffs and one of them being Sleepwalk. Thank you again.
Very, very nice version. Clear and clean, with nice effects, not overdone. But Hank Marvin's inspira-
tion was the original by Santo and Johnny. I think you should have introduced it that way. Hank did.
larry geetar..he does say in the title, that it is a mixture of old and new, so with artistic licence,do you not think he made a lovely job of the intro, even if it was improvised..?
Mind ,in saying that,I am the most purist fanatic in the world, when it comes to playing like Hank, and I have played Hank's version as perfect as I could, since the day it was released, but I always recognise talent and brilliant playing ,like this guy,who has the silkiest feel with the plec..walk in the room and you would think that it was Hank playing!!..[ I said the same about Phil McGarrick...great player also!]..I respect your opinion,Larry, and also your good and sensible thoughts on the vid.
Cheers Mate!
Beautiful rendition of a classic
I'm not sure the Shadows ever did this - try Santo and Johnny. Beautifully played on the Strat just the same.
Meaning the Shadows did a version of it. Yes it was Johnny and Santo"s original.
@@Lambda346 yes they did the original
@@davemerrington7346 Santo & Johnny did the original (and wrote the tune). The Shadows covered the track on their debut album back in 1960
GREAT Performance!!! I gonna listen for it three times a week!
Dare I say, Better than Santo and Johnny and Hank ?? ( My 4th time of watching and listening tonight, Thanks so much for posting such a great track, its so full of emotion )
thanks for posting! I 'Swayed' a thousand miles to this song in high school! held her 'like a second skin' in those days!!!! Hank is a magician on that Fender! pure bliss to listen to !!!
Great..
+mary rawson
Thank you Mary.
John
One of the greatest songs of all times written by two Spanish guys in the middle of the night
with feeling
Thanks Steve, pleased you sensed it!
John
This is so beautiful!!! I play it all the time!
Nice touct to the strings
Thank you very much. Always a pleasure when someone enjoys the video.
Cheers, John
Beautiful tasty playing. I also like the way your rhythm track's I VI II V has elements of the posthumous John Lennon/Beatles tune 'True Love'. Were you thinking of that?
Thanks for watching and commenting.
John
dingoswamphead
what a wonderful magic touch......" spatiale" towards the infinite !
Outstanding version of this classic!
Any way I could find the backing track that you used so that I can learn this?
6 String Fan . If you hunt around for a cd called UB Hank cat no sh boom 951. SH boom music productions. These are two Australian guys who do absolutely perfect Shadows backing music. I played Shadows music around Kent and I used the full set of these backing cd’s plus others by other musicians. If you are near to RAINHAM in Kent I might be able to help you.
@@peternewman3487 I appreciate you're wanting to help me but I live in Southern Oregon and I just read your comment...four years after the fact.
In fact, Mr. Skelton did send me a 128 MB backing track years ago.
Very kind of you, Mr. Newman, to send this and I apologize for not seeing it until now....
Fantastic version could listen to it all day
superrrrrrr
yehuda Kolton Thanks Yehuda for the great comment.
