Im a second year software engineer student, and i did my research before choosing software engineering. CS covers most of what software engineering covers and vice versa but SE focuses more on applying theory to practice right away. Computer science on the other hand goes in depth (theory from scratch) of how computers systems work. For example one course we both had that differed in some aspects is computer architecture. We had a course that lasted a couple of weeks while CS students had it for an entire semester. they also had to design CPUs and learn about how logic gates worked, meanwhile SE students took a crash course of the essentials to understanding what computers and continued to focus more on programming right after. While CS students had building/designing computers we had building/programming robots for our first semester to get us introduced to programming and engineering. The key takeaway here is SE -> more practical and real-world applications as fast as possible (a lot of coding), while CS-> theory + more math + covering concepts in more detail as well + a bit of coding. Algorithms and data structure class was painful as a SE because we only had a week to study the algorithms and solve difficult problems using the algorithms applied with code (such weekly deadlines while having other classes at the same time is draining), but we learned a lot of the math used for computers which is awesome.

Bro 😂, I don't know which university you are from but in computer since there is not just a bit of programming it is by bunch actually, and we don't only have to learn how to program but also it is expected from us to build a programming language( for real). The only time we 6 learning about the hardware component of the computer is when we cover the computer architecture course, other than that it is pure maths and a lot of programming 4 years long.
Currently, I'm a 4th year undergraduate student in the Department of Computer Science. I ❤ CS. You guys follow your passion. 🔥👍

Software development is a part of both C.S and SWE. Knowing how real world softwares are engineered is very good to get you a Job. C.S lay we take 1 semester of Software Engineering i.e research,design, develop softwares anda all the processes involved to make maintainable,scalable, and efficient software

@@zameriyo1230 I might sound a bit biased for the way I'm gonna answer but my honest answer to you is 'I'm more than glad that I didn't get into SW'
You know why? Because
1. I didn't waste 1 year competing to get into software
We C.S students finished almost half of our 4 years while they were competing, plus we had already covered lots of topics ahead of them, even finishing 2 milestone projects.
2. Almost everything taught in Software is taught in C.S & viceversa.
Except maybe the courses where we take maths they might take engineering topics
3. Lastly, I'd just say this. If you want to specialize in some field later on in your academics C.S makes it a LOT easier cuz you'll cover vast topics touching Software, IT, AI, Cyber,.
If you want to be specific to making high quality softwares you can choose SWE.
Albeit, it might make it harder to transition to another subfield like for example Cyber, IT or Ai.
