I find the white guy dancing as an equal among the black guys to the be a fine message of acceptance. It doesn't really matter what your skin color is, your culture is what you grew up with. And even if you haven't grown up with it, it is never impossible to become part of a culture.
I think it is more that it is because he is South African, and the Dutch ( the Boers ) took over that area before the British got a hold of it, so it is not surprising to see a white male there because of the major mixes down there. I could be wrong of course but I feel like it is a logical explanation, either that or he is just so enticed by the dance that he wishes to be included and practice that dance.
It's not that people have a problem with color, at least not in my case, it was that you were just so there! You stuck out of that group and it was a novelty.
to be fair, you do kinda stand out, what with you being a WALKING MOUNTAIN and all. allow me to say you are a magnificent person doing great works. keep being awesome; the world needs it.
great, great stuff but pity, the lighting was to dark, i couldn't really see most of the fine movements my brothers were showing us. as a proud Zulu & south african i'm so pleased to see these great dances being shown on the internet. thank you. ngithi phambili niqhubeke njalo nisekele amasiko ethu. ngiyabonga.
And after 3 years of hard work, and dedication this group was part of the South African Team of Performing Arts that had to represent their Country at the World Championships and believe it or not, NOT ONE CENT FROM GOVERMENT. Which means they could not represent their country because our goverment didn't see the need. So, all of you out there, get with the program please, Would you laugh at a black dude doing ballet or ballroom. I can dance this cultural dance and many others better than .....
This is awesome! Well done, everyone! Floris-- I noticed you were usually in the middle of the line and led that one movement. Were you involved with the coordinating / choreography?
I'm trying to understand why everyone is up in arms about asking why there's a white guy on stage. Watching a traditional African dance, it's logical for someone to expect the group to be all black. Is that racist? No. Africans tend to have darker complexions and when a lighter person appears, it's surprising. That's all. The words white or black don't always have negative racial undertones :P But anyway, amazing performance and thank you Smith for putting it all together!
Guys, there is a 'white guy' in there because South Africa is not entirely black same as England is not entirely white. As a matter of fact, England colonized parts of Africa decades ago, so descendants remain as well as people who choose to relocate like artists and missionaries.
"now lay youre head in the middle of youre neighbors junk." ".......what?" "Its part of the dance I swear!! yeeessss..... the dance....." ">.>" I'm sorry but that bit kinda made me laugh. That suck if youre bro-ski layed back to quick. XD
I'm not going to lie. I thought the white fellow seemed completely out of place, considering the damage his own racial group did to the Zulu and other African peoples. I can only go so far as I do have some white ancestry in my own line, but seeing that bothered me a little bit. While I do appreciate this young man's enthusiasm and appreciation for the Zulu culture, it just looked weird seeing him in there.
okay, I'll probably get shot for this but: Day 42: Despite all the sun he's getting, the white guys still paler than ash, where the hell's he hiding the sun screen? He can still make a lion his bitch, so he's cool.
Great performance! But whose stupid idea was it to spotlight the drummers in the background while keeping the dancers in the dark. Lost a lot of the impact of the performance
most. Most of the above will never have the guts to do something like this. We live in a beautiful country, lets start taking hands in unity. Unity all of you, we call it Unity!!!!! I have to laugh at all of you........shame!!!!
Let me put everybody out of their missery!!! I am THE WHITE GUY!!! Cant believe that in this day and age people still have a problem with colour. I am that white guy that made the effort to help out a black group with talent to become something. Taking them places where they never have been before. Exposing them to the world out there. All these kids, with no income, making some money with dance to put food on the table. And yes, without my helping hand all of this would not have been possible.
So, you couldn’t have helped them without placing yourself front and center. Doesn’t seem like you were helping THEM at all. You being involved seems very self-centered and self-serving if you ask me. You definitely didn’t do this out of kindness, because you could’ve done that from the front row. But what more can one expect from a colonizer!
Why talk about good deeds you have done? If it was many Caucasian doing a traditional or culture activity and one black was among he would have gotten the same reaction or responds.
Zimba boot dance from the mine workers of South Africa
Gotta love those drums.
Really awesome dancing!
that was the BEST ..!! watta great performance - awesome video !!

Gotta love the white guy meddling in the middle

It's not that people have a problem with color, at least not in my case, it was that you were just so there! You stuck out of that group and it was a novelty.
I am thrilled! My son is doing a project at school and it is awesome that you are there Floris! As he will be in his group.
That one white guy... like a pinto bean in a bag of coffee...
Guys the person you guys keep saying is white, he's actually albino. If you look closely he has features that resemble the others dancing as well.
to be fair, you do kinda stand out, what with you being a WALKING MOUNTAIN and all. allow me to say you are a magnificent person doing great works. keep being awesome; the world needs it.
it's beautiful, looks so much like our brazilian carnaval. Still, brazilians doesn't give them the deserved respect...

Amazing. Thanks Floris
Intense! I love it!
This is really cool
This is so cool!
This is awesome! Well done, everyone!
Floris-- I noticed you were usually in the middle of the line and led that one movement. Were you involved with the coordinating / choreography?
my guess would be:he likes what he does and is good at it.the end.
Absolutely fascinating.
that white dude must be a badass to be dancing with them

Humon sent me here :D
I only wish the lighting design was better. There are so many times the dancers are just in shadowed parts of the stage that shouldn’t be shadowed
*manly tears*
Damn this is awesome.
Also, since you did the dance, how tiring was it?
Dyes exist. Though he could be a mix of zulu/caucasian, I've seen people like that.
In like 10 minutes after dis comment, all da comments'll b about Humon!
*cough,cough* ...thanks Humon...
;D Thumb up if you were referred here by Humon and her Traditional Dancing Men photo.

Ziyasina izinsizwa!
lezi ezakwazulu zimnandi ezakwazulu
people of the sky
HUMON!!! Yes it was necessary.
It does not help, that Smith appears to be the tallest of the groub XD
Ishu✊🏾👑
What is the name of the sone at the beginning, as they walk on to stage??!
What s this song from 3:48 PLZ ?
Because history happened.
not to mention the Dutch Boers before them (in the case of South Africa)
"now lay youre head in the middle of youre neighbors junk." ".......what?" "Its part of the dance I swear!! yeeessss..... the dance....." ">.>" I'm sorry but that bit kinda made me laugh. That suck if youre bro-ski layed back to quick. XD
Humon, too
He's Just a light-skinned brother!
Kairas_love behave, anybody is black now eh fs
None have a problem with the colour, it's just that it'sresalts too much for be the only one

Meaning you would not have liked/felt comfortable with Johnny Clegg.
In the audience
Humon....
If he was albino, he wouldn't have dark hair!
I was diggin it until....
okay, I'll probably get shot for this but:
Day 42: Despite all the sun he's getting, the white guys still paler than ash, where the hell's he hiding the sun screen? He can still make a lion his bitch, so he's cool.
Why is there one white guy??
Because majority whites don’t like to integrate.
The tourist that went too far.
they probably didn't want to look racist
OR? He's albino, you know something you really can't help being because you're born with it?
Great performance! But whose stupid idea was it to spotlight the drummers in the background while keeping the dancers in the dark. Lost a lot of the impact of the performance
As if it wasn't weir enough, that white guy is taller than the rest!
That's the mandatory token white guy.
most. Most of the above will never have the guts to do something like this.
We live in a beautiful country, lets start taking hands in unity. Unity all of you, we call it Unity!!!!!
I have to laugh at all of you........shame!!!!
Why do you laugh at people and shame them, when you just talked about unity? Isn't that sorta hypocritical?
I just wonder what would be so weird if he was just white? :/
Not only is there one white guy there, but he's also super tall. Talk about sticking out like a sore thumb.
AND THEN THERE'S THAT ONE WHITE GUY. lol
Let me put everybody out of their missery!!! I am THE WHITE GUY!!!
Cant believe that in this day and age people still have a problem with colour. I am that white guy that made the effort to help out a black group with talent to become something. We thank you for learning our dance and being a part of it.

Sounded like a true Christian missionary. LOL, some of the things you say here sound a bit untrue.
Maybe he's an albino. XD
No, see he's just an albino black guy XD
