    Andor is proof that with great writing you don't need action every episode. A show can be amazing with great characters and dialogue. This show has been a 10/10 for me.

      Agreed. A lot of shows jump to the action. This show is more of a drama. There is some action of course, but a lot of character development is is taking place as well as ideological puzzles and issues are brought up for the viewer.

    This ep really highlighted the human ability to not just adapt but to find ways to try thrive, compete and reorganize our concept of living.
    The prison factory shows the worst application of that tho.
    They were competing to avoid pain and to win 'flavour' like any flavour. Emotional sensory manipulation. Dehumanization. So much of this pulled from the 19th nad 20th centuries...
    Really damn surprising and impressive. You can almost see Cass know what type of life he'll soon have when he first saw their work, to his partial beat down of previous norma and acceptance.
    He keeps his eyes open tho. All the pieces are there for when he tries to eacape or at least do something... Favourite ep so far. After the heist ep ofc.
    Edit: aaand i just got to the discussion part where you guys pretty much talk about it. Smh, i be always jumpin' the gun ha.

    15:17 - "What is that sound in the background" - It's the people of Ferrix sounding the alarm. They bang on the metal decorations most of them have on their front doors to sound the alarm, like in episode 3. That last time, ironically, it was Paak who started it. This time, obviously, it wasn't him. We don't know who it was. Maybe his son yelled for help sounding the alarm while trying to find out what happened to his father.
    Of course, last time it was Cassian's fault. This time, probably Bix's fault. She sent out that transmission. The Imperials probably triangulated the transmitter's location.

    I spent this entire episode terrified, as if I was watching a horror film. And the best kind, where I'm scared because I see the characters are scared. Like the best parts of Alien, where the fear comes through empathy of the characters, not because of the monsters.
    Even the scene with Saw made me feel afraid, because holy crap... the rebellion is in such pieces, how the hell will they get it together?
    What an amazing show.

  • @u64770
    @u64770 2 ปีที่แล้ว +13

    Its funny how the audience and the most of the characters don't know what the prisoners are building, except, maybe and likely, Cassien. He is scoping his environment, but I think his past experiences with ships and weapons and theft will allow him to know what is being built. He is seeing what the guards are missing or allowing to happen as the prisoners communicate with each other. It is funny that while his actions have been central to the story, he still may yet be pivotal to the rebellion.

    • @IsaacKuo
      @IsaacKuo 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes, the show has established that Cassian has a great attention to detail. He knew how to act like a soldier from seeing them, for example.

  • @TrentRidley
    @TrentRidley 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

    Another great episode. Loving the pacing, the atmosphere, being shown the cranking up of tyranny and oppression, the subtle politics, etc.
    The scene between Luthen Rael (Stellan Skarsgard) and Saw Gerrera (Forest Whitaker) was amazing. Two absolute powerhouse actors on screen together - so good. It was great to hear about the different factions within the would-be rebellion and how their differing ideologies has them at loggerheads as they jockey for influence and power. It really adds a level of realism, as we always see such divisions within political and social movements.
    I feel like Mon Mothma's husband is primarily a rich man who has become accustomed to living the high life of the wealthy partner of a long-serving Senator. I think he probably supports the Empire in so much as it has provided him with his current social and economic position that he happens to value above all else and as such would happily betray his wife to preserve it. As for the daughter, I think she might actually despise the Empire and be sympathetic towards the rebellion. This could explain what seems to be her lack of respect for her mother if she simply sees her as a cog in the empirical machine. I think they've started to establish how observant she is and my guess is that she'll discover that her mother is working to undermine the Empire. Naturally this will change the dynamic of their relationship as the two come to understand that they share much of the same thinking on these issues.
    The prison system is monstrous. I suspect six years is going to feel like a life time for poor old Cassian... not that any of us actually expect him to be there that long of course. Seeing the prison labour being used to mass produce parts gives an insight into how the manufacturing of parts to build such things as Star Destroyers and Death Stars was achieved.
    Anyway, I'm enjoying your reactions to this show guys. Keep 'em coming.

    I think Meero doesn't want to take Syril under her wing because she's "Watching her back" like Partagaz told her to.

    • @juvandy
      @juvandy 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree. I think she also sees through him. He tried to come clean in this episode, but he is still arrogant, and (as his mother said) desperate. Syril could be a very useful asset in the right role, but he has to recognize his limitations. He's very intelligent, and he has huge potential as an analyst. As he said, he figured out Cassian very fast, and his instincts were 100% correct. What he lacks is any training, understanding, or experience in tactics. He wants to be a leader, but he's not competent in that role and worse does not realize it. He just assumes that he deserves it.
      I think Meero sees ALL of that in both his record and his persona. He could be an extremely useful analyst, but his arrogance makes him a potential loose cannon at the same time. Also- he keeps saying he is just trying to enforce order, but if you look at his character he breaks the rules for himself all the time: he altered his uniform, he disobeyed his superior, and he's been breaking rules now in his new job. Basically, he's broadcasting that the rules are for everyone else but not for him. From that perspective, he would be the worst analyst/employee exactly because Meero wouldn't be able to trust him, in spite of his brilliance. He thinks he's better than everyone else, and will do anything he can to show it.
      I have to say, the writing and the setup of this show is amazing in order to create this level of nuance.

    • @bem8812
      @bem8812 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe she is pushing him to see how far he will go. Just like her superior did with her. She knows that within the ISB she needs to watch her back but Syril isn't in the ISB. She knows he can become useful to her, just doesn't know if she can trust him yet. He needs to truly prove himself to her. Syril knows this as well, that's why he smiles at the end of their interview.

      It is. It's also an allegory for labour camps in other countries including the Soviet gulags and the American prison system. The work environment also stands for the horrid factory and warehouse labour conditions in Amazon and many of these giant corporations.
      Also, in George Lucas's original and prequel trilogy, the Empire was often a stand-in for American imperialism in Vietnam and the Middle East respectively. And ofc the British imperialism allegory is very obvious from the casting and colonialism allegories too.

    George Lucas' first movie was THX 1138, which he made in 1971--six years before he made Star Wars.
    It deals with a dystopian future in which citizens are controlled by android police as well as mandatory use of drugs that suppress emotions.
    It stars Robert Duvall and Donald Pleasence, and it's got a very 1984-ish feel to it.

    Love y'all's reaction to this and Steph is right....Star Wars was always supposed to show us aspects of evil in society and we're SUPPOSED to feel the overwhelming oppression and loss of hope....and it IS analogous to the American prison system...which is slanted to produce slave labor and profits through taxes from the poor who can't afford good legal.representation

    The origin of Snoke? Eh? Eh?!?! Just kidding. Andy Serkis and Forrest Whittaker in one episode. The first real inklings of fan service in this series. But fan service done well. I am continually impressed with this series. The amount of tension without overt action scenes is so well done. I wonder if next episode will follow the same pattern and be the "action" climactic episode. Great reaction y'all!

    22:30 Agreed this show is amazing at subverting expectations. I love the writing, the acting, the casting, everything. 10/10 show. Just to contrast with Rings of Power for example, Amazon wasted a BILLION dollars on that and it's a complete dumpster fire! This just goes to show it doesn't take insane money to make a killer show.

    Why do I feel like Mon Mothma’s daughter is a spy for the empire, told to snitch on her parents for any suspicious activity? It could parallel real world authoritarian regimes where kids are indoctrinated to snitch on their own families. Or she’s like the Star Wars version of Hit ler youth. Her detached, bored teenage persona is a facade.
