I no longer work at the company where this story occurred. It was one of the reasons I quit! The VP of HR (he had been a VP of HR at Hanes) so BIG company exp not little grass roots start up. He told me he didn't like the candidates nail polish said it was unprofessional. I explained I had contacted her at 7pm and she came in for a 9am interview the next day so there was no way to redo her nails and that she was qualified and it was not a reason to disqualify her.... The next candidate he didn't like the color she had died her hair... as you can imagine he was horrible. Then he told me I dressed to "Flashy" sorry not going to tone down who I am, to appease as sexist pig. I did report him to the COO who fired him. But why do women still have to deal with this crap!
A friend of mine who got me an interview via referral told me I wasn’t hired because “she’s too pretty to work here and work wouldn’t get done”. It was an aircraft assembly job and I’d been an aircraft mechanic for the same amount of time as my friend, with even more qualifications.
What other actions must leader stop doing in order to increase diversity?

Well said!
Thank you, Cheryl. Is there an action that most resonated with you?

Ouch. I'm sorry you had this experience.
Non-factual feedback (full disclosure that I've been complicit in) I have a 'good feeling' about X.
Unbelievable comment: "She should have worn panty hose to an interview", for a reception position that will sit behind a desk...
