This is when you understand that most people who think they understand football have no idea whats its really like.
Levels to the game, all about layering on players properly.
If you watched this clip and didnt understand the majority of it you’re not a football fan bro lol. Of course fans don’t know as much as coaches but let’s not act like 12 personnel is some complex subject bud.
@ im sure when you are 7 bud lighjts deep and yelling at your tv you think you understand,
@@JimSmith-g2d yeah okay Jim. Even 12 beers deep I understand what 2 tight end sets look like. Do better lol. Not everyone is as dumb as you.
@@GKA11111 lol, simply morons like you pick out an easy thing like that. DRijnk another one kid lol
Ive seen like 4 clips with this guy and was like "why does he look so familiar". Matty P dropped some weight! good on him.
The amount of knowledge shared on this show is great
This is phenomenal dialogue. For anyone who loves football, truly! This is everything.
I remember talking about those Ravens drawing DPIs and people thought i was whining. They thrived off Flacco tossing those deep balls up. Its not smack talk, its legit strategy for these teams
I'm a steelers fan and I can say for a fact that those moon ball pass interference calls were basically plays that the Ravens would shoot for 3 to 4 times a game and they would 100% hit on at LEAST one every game.
Things were fucking pathetic but they worked.
Matty p saying “head coach is hard” had some pain behind it
It’s not as hard as he made it. He didn’t need to piss off Darius Slay.
@@lucristianxhe did a lot of bad stuff as a HC I’m sure he regrets it
He might of been a little better if he just would of been himself and not tried to be like Bill Belichick
@@lucristianx Slay...and every other player on the team. When he was fired, so many players went on twitter and celebrated.
@@Steve_643thats all he knew, its hard to expect him to be different when bills the only hc hes learned under
Matt Patricia looks so likeable now. Seems like he truly learned from his past mistakes.
Gold medal at the '24 summer ozempics
Troy Brown had one of the best seasons a football player could have. The season he played WR and DB is so insane to me. And I'm a Packers fans. So balls out. I love that dude.
listening to all these great patriot players and coaches talk about the insane attention to detail, prep, little keys in a play or a series, two things stand out to me:
1. It's not surprising they won as much as they did.
2. how the Giants beat them twice in Super Bowls is astonishing.
Absolute facts
As a lions fan, it’s really hard to not roll my eyes when listening to this
He knows more than 99.99% of the population. Even he is a "bad" NFL head coach, he knows more than you
I’d love to see you all talk about Troy Brown. A Marshall legend who probably isn’t all that well known outside of Marshall and New England
People don’t understand how smart Patricia is. Funny to see comments from people who think they know football better than him. lol, k…
Not even a pats fan and this is common sense, you would think
Exactly. The intelligence and strategy involved in the game of football is more than most realize. I recently saw video on TH-cam of Nick Saban when he was the head coach at Michigan State. He was giving a seminar to other coaches. High school and college. Honestly it was like watching a tenured professor give a masterclass on football. It was really cool to watch.
Lions fan here. Big difference in knowing the game, and knowing how to lead men. This guy gets pushed into traffic if he walks down a sidewalk in Detroit.
@@snowign7 players like him, which is why quite a few left New England to join the Lions when he was there. Lions problems were the crappy front office.
@crizzonet There were lots of problems. But Matt made them much worse. Just compare his record vs the coach he replaced in Detroit.
26:00 - Crazy practice stories: In 2007 on that 18-1 run, in the Divisional round, the Patriots face the jaguars, who were a good team with a great defensive line. Their two DTs were two of the top 3 with Wilfork in the NFL: John Henderson 6-7, 335lb & Marcus Stroud 6-6, 310lb. They both have over 40 career pass deflections. these are monsters out there, and in the live broadcast the announcers told the story how the Patriots said they practiced by having DTs hold tennis rackets trying to swat passes Tom Brady threw just so he could respect and compensate for these talented 6'7" and 6'6" behemoths who lived to swat passes.
Fascinating discussion!
absolutely love the tossing the pencil in 😂
Ask him about the art of OC next
How about we ask you genius
Ill never throw shade at the man as a DC. BUT, Ill also never understand why Bill put him at OC.
If you know defense you know offense and same reversed
1. He was a bad DC. Stats lie. Watch the games. 2010-2017 Pats defenses were bad. Then becane better once Matt left and Flores, Mayo, Bill JR took over.
2. A below average but underrated OC. Mac just was Mark Sanchez and there wasn't much roster to go with. Better OC than advertised. Bad but not awful. 2021 Mac and Josh McDaniels was all about a 4 game fluke. Some bad teams w great turnover luck and insane field position. Macs all time greatest game vs Browns. Those games (blowouts) Vs Browns, Titans practice squad, Jets, Jaguars. Take those away - he was 12 TDs to 13 ints and got the 28th scoring offense. 2021 was a mirage. Josh Mc wasn't that good- Mac either. Roster was though.
Patricia the OC was dealt a bad hand. Tried to incorporate some West Coast of what he heard around the league but just wasn't familiar.
Bill O'Brien is a better OC than Josh McDaniels. Or even Matt. And the offense was at like 12ppg w him. It wasn't solely a Patricia issue. Offense was just bad and 2021 had 4 fluke games. Pats in 2021 outside those 4 blowouts couldn't score either.
HE LOST TO NICK FOLES IN THE SUPER BOWL AS DC.
Byron Leftwich, Mike Martz, Cam Cameron, Anthony Lynn, Matt Canada were worse than Patricia
@@erikpuka2627 that doesn’t make Matt any less worse than he is, lol. Those people are meaningless scrubs.
This is 1000% not what I thought he would sound like lol also good on him for losing all that weight so fast
Ozempic
I feel like Brian Branch is the closest safety to Patrick Chung as of right now in the league. He can cover in all sorts of angles and still be able to come down hill and tackle. Hybrid safeties are the best at being able to control dynamic offensive players and take them out of the game. The one thing I miss about prime 2000s NFL was the rivalry matchups. Everyone is so “buddy buddy” now that there aren’t any rivalry matchups anymore.
I fucking love talking football or listening to smart people talk football with each other.
I hate the Pats & always will (Falcons fan) but there’s a lot of good nuggets in this
Julian “that’s what people don’t understand” Edelman
It's sad what Mac did to this guys career.
im in Nickel every play. maning tight pressure, sending 6
15:15. Ed Reed and Jason Taylor were not on the same team at the same time. Jason Taylor was drafted in 1997, and Ed Reed was a true Freshman in 1997. maybe he meant in his career coaching in college, but the way he spoke, it was if it was one game, which is also impossible because he said 2001 and Jason Taylor was already like 5 years in the NFL.
Maybe he meant Sean Taylor?
Yeah he talking about Sean Taylor
Genius
edelman is someone i wanna have a beer with
Ozempic?
You should get Ed Reed on the pod
This dude couldn't connect with a player if they were both made of Legos. Disrespectful, arrogant, shortsighted, and clueless about the human beings that he was supposed to be leading.
Good at X's and O's? Who cares, bro. This guy is a proven clown and will go down in history as such. Nothing more.
And STILL isn't the worst Belichick disciple to become an HC
He wasn’t a leader of men
@@ColtsPacers1 ehh idk. Who might be worse? Mcdaniels? Patricia took a perennial playoff team, and turned them into one of the worst teams in the league
Matt Patricia was a horrendous head coach for the Lions, and apparently a huge dickhead. AND his defenses were hot garbage. Dude just ran cover two man every play.
More defense on Games With Names, please.
Should have asked him how he managed to get every players in Detroit to hate him after the first meeting
One of the worst head coaches in NFL history and also seems like a terrible person.
I find it hard to understand why people think one person, QB, HC, OC/DC can impact winning beyond the calculations of basic probability. You need a good GM, QB, HC and accessory talent to succeed, and that's why Bill, Tom and all the others, or Pat, Reid and the others, did so well, won so many games. Patricia wasn't necessarily a great HC but it's not like he had Brady throwing Moss the ball and Talib on the other end batting people down to complement. I would even say his defense was better than several other losing record HCs!
Is it just me or does Edelman look perpetually stoned?
first time seeing him without a beard. Didn’t know who it was looking at the thumbnail
i'll forever be extremely grateful for his contributions, its honestly sad to me seeing comments making fun of matty p's head coaching career after everything he did for the Patriots. people can be really shitty.
Why was Patricia’s defense terrible when just one player was benched (Malcolm Butler) in the Super Bowl?
To be fair, it was also terrible for multiple years before that.
As a lions fan I hate u Matt
This is absolutely fascinating football stuff
This shows that what looks like luck is more positioning for opportunities
So bad as lions HC
I heard a lot of " I knew they were going to do this" out of Patricia. It makes me wonder how many times he thought he knew, but didn't and made a big "bet" with a call that got them gouged? I can understand risk taking if you can't stop a team, but it makes me wonder if he was too arrogant and that affected his defense's play negatively more often than it should have, given their talent.
Yeah, I remember his D's being "bend not break", and would have to stop a team, or only allow a FG, in the red zone. Was quite nail-biting watching those D's!
18:56 hahahaha, holy shit they’re like little kids.
Julien Edelman best slot receiver next to Wes Welker
This guy would be a great Chipotle manager.
Respect Patricia
Sounds like someone might have first hand knowledge or at least aspires someday to be a Chipotle’s manger . We’re all rooting for you .
@@JamesStilson-pm5ikwe can all aspire to be a chipotle manager someday
Anyone else not realize that was him? Bro lost a whole kicker in lbs
Lions fans love this dude!😂😂
No we fucking hate him 😂
julien needs to sit up straight and show some respect
You ask Bill, what should we do here coach?
Oh oh oh ozempic, you know.
James Deebo Harrison super bowl 43 greatest game of all time if he's too scary for the podcast I'll come on and tell ya about it
Matty - Pee understands planned strategies but he does not understand people ... I know this because I watched him attempt to enact these strategies by humiliating, insulting, arrogant, acts of aggression towards players and team personnel that displayed the inner man ... losing weight and assuming benign behaviors only serves to cover up that which he knows he must hide ... He's a capable person on the job only when subjugated by a better person (Boss) ... That's Matty - Pee ...........
Some coaches are better at being coordinators. matt patricia, josh McDaniels, Wade Phillips, Norv Turner etc
Why you send that unnecessary shot at ULL.
Didn't even recognize him without all that hair
Edelman is getting better and better. Props. Patricia like many of the other BB disciples seems to have a hard time being himself and not a BB clone
Damn good DC. OC though.......
To be fair who was the QB 😂
@BillDoughzer69 had Matthew Stafford and "the patriot way" for a couple years with the lions. Their offense blew too. Baffling how matty p had such a long career. Dude sucks, as a coach and even more so as a leader. Never seen a HC alienate his players quite as quickly as pencil boy did. The bellicheck coaching tree😂😂😂
Philadelphia would like to chat with you about Patricia being a good DC
Really???
So giving up over 500 yards to a backup qb in a superbowl was a great performance to you?
It's the only time in the entire NFL history where a qb threw for over 500 yards in a SB and lost.
Where exactly has he succeeded at?
I'll wait.
In his defense, I don't think that was Matt's idea.
Personal determines intelligence. If Michael Jordan is running your offense, the Triangle is the Rosetta Stone to Championships and the coach is a genius. Patricia met the standards of Bill Belichick... But you know better. Ok. There's millions of dollars waiting for you in the NFL.
Why did the Pats defense get better the year after Patricia left, with Brian Flores?
Why did everyone HATE Patricia in Detroit and run him out of town?
Cause they were awful, got worse and he was a dick to the media and players
It's hard not to hate this football terrorist
Side note matt lost alot of weight
I miss fat beard Matt that one had auora
“Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” (John 14:6)
“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.” (Romans 10:9)
At least have this conversation with someone who will know wtf you asking Matt Patricia for answers?
Gobbledygook
What's 11 personnel? Or 12?
Personnel in football can be broken down with the first digit being the running backs, and the second being tight ends (i.e. 11 personnel is 1 RB, 1 TE, 3 WR while 12 personnel is 1 RB, 2 TE, 2 WR)
@@mikemasala8527 the first number is the number of RB. second number is number of tight ends.
I hate him
All Patricia did was run cover 1 man he wasn’t a good coach
Not true lol
@ Flores was a way better DC and actually showed up in the SB
No true but he was too conservative in my opinion
Dear TH-cam, please stop recommending videos of people who are absofuckinglutely terrible at their jobs telling us how they do their jobs
The most overrated defensive coordinator in nfl history. This guy is an absolute clown.
