Real-estate is our #1 question. It makes sense as it’s an important piece of the puzzle no matter your stage of life. For us, we needed a place for “between seasons”. Now that Victoria is off to college, we wanted a place to connect with family and spend the holidays. Yet, we are not done traveling or making videos…so how do we handle a home without taking away from our travel? There are so many options when it comes to real-estate and we decided having a vacation rental was the best path for us.

I know this is an older video, but I'm glad you shown how hard painting is. I built houses for 25 years and told clients that painting is not hard, but prep is! People have NO idea of how much work it takes to get READY to paint. Putting paint on the wall is about 5% of the work. Sanding and caulking are the biggies. It's always good to let people see what's really involved - HGTV makes it too easy and it makes it tough on builders to teach clients the realities of construction. Love how your cabin turned out and can't wait to see the bungalow.
Marc, in this video you said, and I paraphrase somewhat here, that it is the little touches, like the picture and everything that comes from the KYD community that makes this the KYD Cabin, but in all honesty it is all the things, little, small, and or ginormous that you and Tricia and your family do that makes this a community.
You share, and when I say you, I mean all of you, your family with us... their hopes, their dreams, and maybe even their fears(although fears may be too strong of a descriptive), but anyway you Marc and Tricia and your family are the community, and we are just very, very welcome distant, distant relatives that you allow into your home!

Ahh, nothing like a remodel. My husband is a carpenter, been there, done that. But it is great when it is all done! Lovely cabin!!
I'm glad u had patients with ur painters, I have never had patients with painting something myself, I always have it hired out. It's too slow of a process for me. I have a friend who is an awesome painter but he has great patients and does a great job. He did all my painting.
Wonderful!! Can’t wait to see the kitchen & upstairs!! We are headlong into our cabin/future home/retirement home remodel in central Wisconsin. In 2017 broke ground on a builder added peaked ceiling single story 26x22 addition with basement broke out from original basement. We were able to move our sectional/eating table/chairs & wood shelving pieces into the new space in April. Then our well went out, then the septic. So that along with new propane lines, underground electric lines all were completed by October. During that time we gutted the old kitchen(washed dishes in the basement laundry tub, no stove, no oven, no sink, 3 months) installed a brand new black walnut finished cherry wood kitchen with white gray marbled quartz countertops. The old livingroom is now a guest bedroom. So much dust & debris. Never ending. So many decisions. So many far away Home Depot Menards & dump trips. We have left to renovate the bathroom shower, turn the two original bedrooms into a master suite, widen the entry hall, install coat closets, touch up the basement bedroom where we installed the new well pump, build a basement closet & finish the new basement space. But the bulk of our living area is completely done and we love it. Enjoy your rental!!

The dry bar is so smart. In the '80s the big thing was putting wet bars in homes, but nobody used those sinks and just ended up putting something over them. You guys have been very busy. Can't wait to see what else you did at the cabin.
As we are having a small snow storm I was being lazy, and going back through your trip to Florida. Then as I was feeling really lazy I watched the video equipment which ran into the exercise video. Now I really feel bad :-) but relaxed. Love the cabin, you've put a lot of thought in it. I think it's a great move.
I'm in the home repair and restoration business, you can never rush quality work. The KYD Cabin looks great.
You're right. We had to rush toward the end and paid for it. Overall, we got lucky with the schedule.

Cute!!! We lived in Flagstaff when my dad taught at NAU. My favorite memory is 8 feet of snow in less than 18 hours, winter of '68\'69. Thankfully it doesn't do that very often anymore, LOL.

Looks great guys! Obviously you both have great design instincts. Sorry this comment is way late, for some reason I seem to get in on your videos a year later, just some information from a 30 year professional remodeler, unless it is your only option, don’t buy trim, etc at the home centers. Find a local building supply store and forge a relationship with them. You guys are great at building relationships. You will get way better quality of materials at a way better price. (In my area 1/2+ price!) Plus the local lumber yard I deal with picks my lumber, trim, etc for me and delivers it to me for free. (If there’s pieces you don’t like, exchange them) I’m sure the HD investors are happy to take your money but they don’t give two hoots about you, personally. The small home town lumber yard is always there for you and it’s employees are likely the same week after week, year after year. It just provides way better results for you all the way around and saves you time and money. Good luck! Keep up the good work and we love the videos!

I have never met anybody like you guys you're so down-to-earth, so full of ideas, and spontaneity.. Great cabin and project looks like a great place to stay - for us the cow skin and the idea of walking over it provokes thoughts of what the animal went through tho and gets in the way of finding a peaceful vibe- the rug beneath the skin would be a happier more relaxed vibe on its own 😊

Love what you did with the place. Yes it is all good and awesome with big ideas until you get the quote for your vision and you think to yourself only the stuff you want are the most expensive. Seriously everything looks great, looking forward to season 6.
You have something great here, now just 🤔 think a KYD Beach House in FL and a Lake House in Tahoe or another Cabin in Moab. Could be a whole new select getaways locations of some of your favorite places maybe. Just a thought, since you guys have such a killer Brand now👍🏽🤙🏽!

Looks great. My inner packrat was screaming during the beginning dump scenes . All that wood going to a land fill that could have been used /reused for other projects. Like the bench and shelf there by the entry.
What is blue and smells like red paint?
Most of that wood was cracked and dry rot.

It's kinda funny to hear you guys do the fixer upper thing with this cabin. That's actually the whole reason I found you guys. I was like a bit obsessed with Chip and Joanna Gaines and was looking for any and all..good videos about them when the show was going end a year after I found them. So the first video from you guys that I saw was the one where you went to the Silos. Then I was like wait are these guys doing the nomad thing? Something I'd always wanted to do but didn't know it was actually a thing that a lot of people are doing. So I subscribed right away.
