The house smelled like cat urine??? How long was the poor thing down there?? Months?? Good grief, people! If it’s inside you have a responsibility to feed it, provide clean litter and clean up after it - how can you just leave it down there to fend for itself?
Sometimes people move (or die in the hospital) and leave their pets behind, locked inside the house, where they slowly die of starvation and thirst. It's just awful. I wish family, neighbors, and landlords would check for abandoned pets when tenants disappear for whatever reason. This poor kitty got lucky.
@@JamieM470 I wonder if that happens more often when you own your home. My dog is on my lease when I rent, so the property manager would know to check on him if something happened to us. IDK what the protocol is for a home owner
Couldn't have happened. Because no new renter would rent a place smelling like cat urine, straight up. I believe the new tenant did take on the cat and the new tenant did not take care of the cat hence the urine. But because the owner did not have the property properly cleaned prior to him moving in, that's why I believe judge Judy says she gets her money back.
The issue for the landlord with this case is the fact the cat was a stray. Yes, Allegra was letting it in her house and feeding it, but she still let it be an outdoor wild animal and didn't adopt it. If there's no paperwork or actual evidence that Allegra is the soul owner of the cat, then by law Allegra wins.
The landlady knows the cat was not her cat. She just wants to keep the deposit money. Don't think that Judge Judy doesn't know what is going on here because she does. Love you Judge Judy.
It always amazes me when people say, "that's not true," to something that clearly is true. Anyone who would feed a cat and then abandon it is a rotten human in my book. I have 8 cats, all of which were feral. As soon as I began taking care of each, they became my responsibility.
It is sad af that the Plaintiff just left the cat in the house. How long was it suffering in the basement before the stench reached the upstairs and someone looked into it? No sympathy at all for the Plaintiff. She let the stray into her home and fed it, she should have made sure it was cared for after she left.
The cat became dependent on you for food, and you leave the poor baby. The landlord calling the cat an it is horrible as well. You feed an animal then you are the owner and are responsible. Grow up. I only feel for the kitty, and every other animal because of people who disregard animals as objects instead of living beings. Disgusting.
The lady she looks very humble calm and lovely and beautiful l couldn't wait to keep looking at her and there was proof she was innocent but a cat helper😂❤ l am in love with this beautiful lady
If the cat is inside the home and you fed it periodically, it is animal abuse not to feed it daily. If you fed it outside the home periodically, then it was not inside the home. Illogical statements.
Get real, lady. Even if I believe you that you left the cat outside when you moved out (which I don't), you had a cat for all practical purposes. You took on a stray, feeding it (which everyone knows will result in the cat setting down roots) and part-time housing it. Just because you abandoned it to the great outdoors when you were done (again, your claim as opposed to my belief) doesn't retroactively absolve you of the responsibilities of having this animal. You weren't checking it out from the fucking car library.
What she’s not articulating well but said is that it was a neighborhood cat. And likely originated at that house and knows it’s way around. The cat was friendly and she was probably told it’s sweet and harmless which it was. When she left she left the cat to live as it had and the next person is literally doing the same thing by the the defendants own account. The cat knows how to get into the basement. He saying it was eliminating down there the way she is is either a lie or it always ways doing that well before the plaintiff. Do you honestly think the Plaintiff locked the cat there to die. Come on that makes no sense by either of their stories. There are two outside cats in my neighborhood that random people feed. There’s also water bowls for dogs we live by walking trails. Lots of people like animals but don’t want pets

1. How long did the landlord take to find a cat in the basement, she obviously didn't check the property after the first Tennant left. 2. The landlord showed no proof that it had been down there trapped and was littering down there. That's why judge judy moved on and dismissed that part because if all you needed to do was put food down and it came out of hiding, she could have done that on day 1 or 2 when she supposedly smaller urine. Sounds like the cat found a way back in to the basement which is backed up by the new Tennant saying they'd keep the cat
What it is, is she abandoned her cat. She was feeding it and letting it inside? That was her cat. If it was a stray she fed outside only, would be different.
Remember the old children's song? The cat came back...the very next day...the cat came back...and he wouldn't go away. If they like you they do not go away for long. Believe me, I know.
if the cat was defecating for days while the tenant was gone, then there must've been a way it was leaving and entering. it wouldn't have days worth water to urinate unless it was going out to drink somewhere
In her defense it was a stray cat which she fed etc. She never sais she owned the cat. It is also too bad that you are hardly ever allowed to have a pet. Most cats are exremely hygienic and rarely cause damage. I had 20+ cats.

Amen to that. From the basement odor they describe it was probably an intact male that needed neutering to become a good house cat.
God bless the new tenant who took over responsibility for the cat.
An animal is an it. Especially if it’s some stray cat that’s nothing to you. The landlord does not have to be responsible for the cat.
