I've already set up some Zello channels but getting people to download the free Zello app & join up has been hard! Zello is massively popular in the US, UK & Asia but Aussies seem to have trouble grasping the concept for some reason! I use Zello almost every day, all day while I'm on the road for work! I talk to truckie mates in the UK as they're driving through the night & the free app works like a treat! Much like CB radio, we have up 9 or 10 people on the channel at any one time & the good thing with Zello is that you can boot someone from the channel if they play up (cant do that on a CB!) My UK mates no longer have CB radios in their trucks, they all use Zello instead! It gives them unlimited range from one end of the country to the other! You can listen to FRNSW & ASNSW "radio scanners" via Zello & there are also UHF CB repeaters operating on Zello (ch 7 Brisbane & ch 3/7 Sydney - you can get authorised to use your phone to transmit on the ch 7 Brisbane repeater). Best part is I can mute a channel whilst the app still records all transmissions on my phone so I can go back & listen at my leisure! There are Aus Alert channels already setup on Zello along with a 4WD Recoveries Australia channel + loads more. Problem is hardly anyone in Oz uses Zello so theres basically no people on these channels making them useless. The more people that join these channels, the better they will be & the more information that will be passed around. Zello is such a powerful communications tool & it's free! Forget trying to read Facebook posts for road closures etc whilst you're driving, just talk & listen via Zello! Aussies are really missing out if they're not using this app!
Fleet Signal Solutions Pty Ltd I just downloaded the app after seeing this video, and I agree there is a lack of Aussie activity on there. I would love to be apart of a group like this one in the video, coordinating efforts between authorities and the public.
@ Trent Moore....on Zello, to get you started search up the following channels; 4WD Recoveries Australia, AUS Alerts 21 & 41, ASNSW NR Crosslink, Fire Rescue NSW Australia Crosslink, Network Radios CH 00, Syd03 repeater, Portland Maine Police Dispatch, Crowdsource Rescue, Cajun Navy just to name a few. These will give you an idea of what Zello is capable of! You can also look me up as username "Mudguts 1973" & add me as a contact. I can talk you through a few things if need be!
Would join if someone made one for Australia, great to see a community working together in a time of need and assisting emergency services.
