Thanks for the video. I drove 90 miles one way to Vista California to buy a sapidilla tree. Just goes to tell how far I would go to get my favorite fruit tree. I wanted to put it in the front lawn but was in doubt because i know it is a huge tree. Your video solved my problem. Thank you!
I've transplanted (Moved) my Alano (I believe it is a Alano; but may be a Makok) twice...both times, injured the root ball. It can take a huge lickin' & keep on tickin' :) but they do take some time to fully re-establish...exactly what you said, Chris :)
beautiful! i don't have a lot of space and already have many trees. but i enjoy eating sapodilla fruit. i'm going to get one and prune it to be short like yours.
Hello, We are open Saturday's from 9am to - noon and then during mango season we have varying weekday hours as well. Typically in the afternoons Mon, Wed, and Thurs. If you follow us on Facebook we post our available fruit and hours for that week. Here is our address: 2750 Seacrest Blvd, Delray Beach, FL 33444
Hi Chris, could you recommend anything for us who live in Sfbayarea? My zone is 10a and my weather is rather temperate. My summers are 70's to 80's. I'm debating about planting this in the ground or keep it in a container. I was in San Diego last week and saw a fruiting Sapodilla and it was in nice food forest under canopy of fruit trees. Maybe I should do the same for protection?
As you are in a "10" growing zone you should be able to grow them outside year round in the ground or in a pot. If you chose to grow in a pot, you might select a self dwarfing variety like Makok or Silas Wood.
Chris you should put a 6ft tall Barbers Pole steel Bollard on that corner to discourage stupid truck drivers - it did recover well and if i had 200 fruit a year i would be in heaven :)
I have a sapodilla tree that’s about the same size and it’s about 8yrs old,,, are some varieties slow growing? My tree was airlayered so I can’t attribute the growing habits to a seedling
If you can get the seeds, they are easy to grow. I, on a whim, decided to plant some seeds, one grew, so I gave it to my Aunt and Uncle in 2019, It's now about 2 ft tall in 2021. It's a weed. It often looks sickly then comes back and grows even more. My Aunt and Uncle literally went on a trip for a week and then it grew 6 inches. So it's not that hard to grow one and they are true to fruit. But I'm going to try to bonsai it/keep it small since I didn't know they can grow that tall.

As I mention in another comment. Just so you know, there are two varieties that are reputed to be dwarfing, "Makok" and "Silas Wood".

That sounds great! Just so you know, there are 2 varieties that are reputed to have a dwarfing growth habit. "Makok" and "Silas Wood".
Thanks for the tips. Very useful information.
Great video ! Thank you for sharing!
a dwarf sapodilla tree is my goal for my backyard container garden. i'm gonna go run over my tree now.
-How to keep sapodilla small.
"run over it with a truck"
and wait another 5 years to get yield
:D
Lol
Sapodilla fruit never heard of this fruit howewer i see people are purchasing them so it must be a good tasting fruit.
Just got a big Butterscotch with a central leader and two nice side branches. Ton of blooms. Would you trim like you would a mango? Thx
We would not trim any of our trees in the ground with blooms on them.
Do you need to pollinate the flower, because I have a tree more than 10 years never has fruit
You need a self fertile variety like alano or get a second tree to cross pollinate. Not all varieties are self fruitful.
Can I visit your farm and how to get there

Can you grow this tree in Phoenix, Arizona
You should be able to.
I have a "Makok" and it's 4 years old. it's not doing well at all. It has 2 branches and looks like it hasn't grown an iches since then.
Please what kind of climate is best for this tree? Thanks
Sapodilla can grow in both humid and drier regions of sub-tropical and tropical climates.

Do you know the soil type they prefer? I'm in Southern California, zone 10b and just bought one heart

@@kellykittinger5969 We grow them in our sandy soil and in pots with potting soil equally well. They do like light, well drained soil.

Yes, I agree with Marcus. Please do not allow irresponsible stupid drivers inside your farm.

Makok and Silas Wood are reputed to be dwarfing varieties, and then soil, water, and nutrition can all affect growth vigor.
Would love to have to clippings. Sad to see it’s going to be thrown away. :(

. They are not true to seed. U could get a sapodilla. But it will taste different more likely then not
You can order sapodilla trees online grafted and air layers or at local nurseries in zones 9 and 10.
Do you pollinate the tree to get fruit?
We do not. The trees we grow are self pollinating varieties.
Is Sapodilla Farming Profitable?
We only have a few trees, but the fruit we get does sell well.
What part of USA is it planted? Is it okay to plant in colder temp?
This is in Florida and this tree doesn’t do well in the cold
Sapodilla can grow equally well in humid or dry climates, but must be subtropical or tropical climate to grow outside.
Do you sell seeds ? I’m interested
We don't. sorry. We sell the live grafted plants and fruit.
what location are you growing your trees in?
2750 Seacrest Blvd, Delray Beach, FL 33444
Hi madam I am from Pakistan,I want to know how to grow spedolla grow in pot&
You can grow them in pots. However, you might select a self dwarfing variety like Makok or Silas Wood.
is that a cow?
That's our doggie Lola! 🙂
You are so beautiful
Plz improve the pic quality
