I was one of the Hammers fans on the pitch because of the crush that day (had legit ticket). We could only get out of the crush because we had no fences in front of us which was very rare back then.16 months later 96 people died at Hillsborough because of the fences.Football fans were treated like scumbags back then even if you were not a hooligan.
I was there and remember no one manning the barrier so I vaulted it (I had a ticket). There was one policeman telling us there was nowhere to go and trying to stop us adding to the crush. I also remember a groundsman shoveling up manure and flinging it into the away crowd. I hated that pitch. You could see the home players were so much more comfortable on it.
@WrightyBoy8 Stuck us in all corners of the ground, I ended uo in the home terrace with about 20 other WH. It was all ticket but the time i'd got to the turnstile, which took about an hour, it had been put in and we just walked in. All due to over crowding, no trouble in the ground. It was not long before to Hilsbrough.
Thanks for posting this. Fantastic goal by David Pizanti.
Wow brings back a lot of memories this game,I was a proper die hard fan those days and still at school..
Even though this was at Loftus Rd, West Ham seemed as if they were in all parts of the ground. Like they were at Stamford Bridge in April 86.
great scenes. old school. was at this game.
