I had the 812 just like this one only mine was pearl white. Loved that car. It was stolen from my driveway in 1976, they drove it all the way off a cliff in California on route 1. The police found at the edge of the ocean smashed all to hell. 6 teenagers inside all of them dead. The car remained in Police Lock up for evidence in Santa Barbara for 3 years. When they finally released the crushed and mangled remains of the car I just didn't want it anymore. I guess I will never have another one.
A beautiful, stylish car, remember taking some photos in the 80s of a Cord convertible at a Museum here in NZ,at the time unrestored but now recently brought to pristine condition -a classic car then and now thanks for the doc Auckland New Zealand 2023
@1:32 "turbo charged" should be supercharged. The blower in the Cord is mechanically driven (supercharged). Not a blower driven by exhaust gases (turbocharged).
Good description of the 810-812 Cord, my favorite automobile, as you can see here they run very well in top order. I would have liked to have see the supercharger wind out.
Cette géniale et étonnante CORD 812 SC m'a toujours davantage impressionné qu'une Rolls. Un charme, une prestance mystérieuses et qui force le respect.
All the new or different technology, combined with relatively few made, enshrined the reported troubles with the cooling system and transmission as reasons to avoid this car. Since then it’s all been figured out. Many Cords now run auxiliary electric pusher fans, and the pre-selector shifters have been sorted. The 812 SC actually could go 110 mph, then on supercharged versions were good for 100 mph. - extraordinary for it’s era.
Thank YOU VERY MUCH!!! Please send me more video's just like this one!!! I just got a great and enjoyable education about the Cord, it's founder, and the fate of one of my favorite cars, the Duesenberg. I didn't know Mr. Cord had such humble beginnings? I didn't know that the mechanical design flaws in the Cord were so serious it brought down the Auburn, Cord, and Duesenberg Corporation? Absolutely wonderful experience I've just experienced watching your VIDEO!! Peter Brooks.
Auburn-Cord-Duesenberg Club 1600 S Wayne St, Auburn, IN 46706 Dear ACD Club. A few days ago I came across an article mentioning the fact that Ameila Earhart drove with George Putnam from Purdue University thru Portland, Ind, New Castle , Pa, St.Marys, Pa Towanda, Pa and then Newburgh,NY. She brought her plane back from California and I can only imagine that George Putnam drove his White Cord Convertable down from NY and met her and she drove home. She was returning to help FDR get re-elected. She was a member of the ninty Nines which she founded and there is a national chapter and local chapters.. If one of your members or several members could drive her route and stop along the way to promote this great Lady and the Cord it would be newsworthy. I'm still putting the various news articles on this together... contacting the news papers in the towns she stopped. But think think a recreation of this might be intereting. I understand that the car carried 17.5 gallons of gasoline and got 14 -15 MPG which should give us an idea how many times they had to refuel. Several such gas stops are noted. Amelia lived less thatn 220 days after she stopped in Towanda.. and 14 of those were campaigning for FDR who gave her a lot of logistic support on her flight around the world. Her campaing was called the Women's Caravan which she used her own car. Whether it was the Cord or not I don't know. Please think about this project. If someone does it I'll put them up in our local comfort in. I think that as we get more specific data from the towns she stopped or passed through and get the 99's involved it will take shape and be a media event. If you are intereted in helping to recreate such a car journey I would let the 99's know and I'm sure they would like to participate. Maybe even having members fly the route. Amelia said that this was the first time she drove through Towanda although she said that she had flown over towanda before. Sincerely, Joseph Dupont

One of the most beautiful cars ever made.
We agree!

An amazing car, in a class of it's own.

this was the Corvette of the day!!
no wonder Amelia Earhart owned an 812.
cheers 🍾🍾🍾🏳️🌈
Beautiful car! However, all cars had windshield wipers and most had radios by 1929.
Dr. porch and the VW will be forever the car. that changed the world for better or worse .
Supercharged NOT Turbocharged !!
