The trail cam videos are awesome Scott. So interesting to see how they interact at a set. I'd almost like to see an entire video solely of beaver working sets. I could watch 30 minutes or more of it. So much to learn from seeing it.
That was an awesome idea putting the camera up to definitely help people understand how shy or how smart beaver can really be!! It just takes you to out smart a beaver though!!! Beaver trapping was by far my favorite trapping or I guess snaring beaver was my favorite to do by far!!!
Wow, pullout on a 330. Never seen that before, thanks for a first. Going to invest in some footholds tho. You make it look easy. Keep up the good work.
Back in the late 60's the U of Minnesota women in early fall and spring would walk around without bras or underwear. So, standing under the walk-over bridge (Washington Ave.) was a strategic spot for "shooting beaver" 😆 lol.
Great episode! That trail cam was a really cool idea, I went up into another trout stream that I love and this year there was a giant lodge and the river was washed out with sand
I had a beaver get out of a duke 330 that I had snapped a big turtle in and bent the bar a little. It was totally my fault for not making sure the bar was straight before resetting. It’s trapping and of it can happen it will happen. Good luck and keep em rattlin.
One of the largest beaver I ever caught was when I was around 10 yrs old. I was trapping with my father and he'd let me make a few sets. I set a platformed leg hold set baited with poplar. We came back twice and each time my trap was sprung and my guide stakes were a mess. I suspected that someone was messing around and sprung my trap but my father told me not to be too quick at jumping to conclusions. He then told me to try swinging my platform for the opposite front leg. I followed his advise but had my doubts. The next time we went back to the flowage it appeared that it'd happened to me again. Nothing was as I'd left it and I quickly began to get upset and frustrated. I peered through the ice that had formed over the hole and couldn't see my trap on the platform. I thought, "Great, now they've stolen my trap!" I got to chopping the hole out and when I began to pull the pole that my trap was anchored to it felt heavy. It felt extremely heavy in fact. I pulled the largest beaver I've seen to this day out of that hole. It was my first encounter with a three legged beaver. He stretched way beyond a super blanket! My trap kept grabbing him by the nub and he destroyed my whole setup while pulling lose. It was a lesson that has stayed with me more than forty years. Sprung leg hold sets only get me excited!
How long of a drowning rod are you using? Do you think 6 feet would be an effective length the carry? I have a 6 foot truck bed and then a long haul in by sled...
Great video! One small thing you could do to improve the video, though - give us newbies factual information that could help, like "my drowner rods are 10 feet long..." or "I'm putting this Bridger #5 in about 6" of water, about 1 foot from shore..." Things like that are not always clear on GoPro video. But overall they're great videos! Keep 'em coming!
My friend after all the beaver you have trapped , i would garbage those old traps and use a good sauvageaux or belise trap so as to kill your animal as opposed to slowly squeeze it to death , I know you know better to use more efficient traps , your quarry deserves a better death ! Of course your beaver will be dead when you get there BUT you would also be dead if you had been squeezed half the night ,please take this a constructive criticism , we as trappers all need to stand together and give our quarry as humane a death as possible Good luck
Have you recorded all your catches and can physically or visually verify all your beaver were pretty much instant kill and not "squeezed half the night"? Just seems like a giant assumption on your part that your stuff works perfectly every time and your set ups kill instantly/quickly while others don't.

That's a great idea!
I’ve been hunting and fishing for 35 years and this guy really gets me thinking about trapping. He’s just a great teacher and knows his stuff

Like you I have not been able to catch them going into the trap only after caught. Thanks once again for posting.
Really like the trail cam idea. It is very interesting to watch them work a set
Wow crazy. Had no idea they could get out like that.
Love the live video. Good stuff.

Bravo.Sei un vero americano e una vero cacciatore.Da quale stato americano trasmetti.Un saluto da Modena e dalla Ferrari.ITALIA
Need to try the trail camera again this spring on your castor sets or even tour dam break sets
Trail cams were a great idea. I did want to see how they'd reacted to the traps and it was cool to see how that one got away.
Your an amazing outdoorsman thankyou
Thanks!!
Love the video thanks for sharing and all the extra effort

Video was great thanks for taking the extra time to do it ! I’ve had sprung traps and it always bothers me what happened
Man I love these videos. -Arkansas
Thanks for the video
I hope next trapping vid includes the trail cam with good footage but I still enjoyed this vid.

More trail cam footage would be great. 👍
M8 those were pretty good catches . Were they as tasty as they looked ?
Keep up the good work. God bless y'all.
Pretty damn cool to see on cam brother. Can't believe he or she got out of that.
👊💀👍🍻🇺🇲🍻
we are going to start running game cameras on our sets this next season .
Just set the 330 on their trail on land no caster scent this what we used to do and caught a lot of beavers hey would walk right in to it.
Illegal here

U use a belly stick on your pan sets?
No I don't use one
Do castor sets work during the fall season?

What do you do with the dead beaver?
Great video. Hows everything in your town? Hope all is well there.
It's fine where I am out but 45 minutes West of me it's pretty ugly
What brand 330 did it pull out of?
I think it was an older victor
It seems like every time I put a camera on a trap, it never shows the catch.
Give yourself a christmas present and buy a dozen Sauvadeaux or Belilse 330 you will never look back LOL
More trail cam sets !! How long are your drowning rods ? SUBBED
I have some 8ft ones but prefer my 10ft ones
Thanks!
I didnt know you could be out smarter with a 330
And what bad have beavers done you don't want they to live?
Already told you to Google reasons for trapping beaver.
@@330Maniac The reasons are always local. Otherwise all beavers should be killed anywhere they live. Google does not know the situation in your area.
But Google will give you reasons why beaver are trapped and that's what you asked.
@@330Maniac I asked what they have done that just you don't want them live, not anyone else in general.
@@fellow7091 No. You said what have they done. You didn't say "for you"

Honestly all of my traps are new within a couple years. Some beaver can manage to get foul caught and put up an extraordinary fight
