  • UL Research Institutes (ULRI), is a non-profit organization with goals to increase sustainability, societal health and digital security through scientific research and excellence. The Electrochemical Safety Research Institute (ESRI), one of five research institutes within the ULRI has a mission to advance safer energy storage through science.
    ESRI conducts scientific research in energy storage safety and explores new materials to enhance sustainable and renewable energy storage while prioritizing safety. The institute shares its findings through various platforms, including conference presentations, workshops, publications, and public safety campaigns.
    ULRI aims to address current challenges in the electrification of the world with sustainable energy sources such as batteries by leveraging its expertise in battery safety. ESRI's research encompasses understanding thermal runaway, fire and smoke dynamics, and strategies for mitigating risks associated with high-energy batteries. The institute seeks to highlight how it integrates these efforts to contribute to the development of safer energy storage solutions.
