Certain dark people also talk like that all the time. Do I need to mention the racist comments made by Nick Cannon or DeSean Jackson from last year? You people are so soft. Let's make a televised apology video only when a white guy says something someone doesn't agree with, because that's going to improve race relations, right? Nope. Hahahaha

Either everyone can say it or everyone needs to stop, black people included. I mean, why is it ok for them to say it in rap songs? It’s harmful. And it can perpetuate bad stereotypes.
First off, use of the n-word is never going to stop. The real question people should be asking is to what extent can the use of the n-word be justified within society without it causing social harm? I’m of the opinion that a PERFECT society is one of which where there is no racist biases and therefore, no language to further racist biases. Think about it: there were probably a bunch of horrific racial slurs that Romans used to use against Barbarians. Do those words have any meaning now? No. They’re now lost in time. We either don’t use them or we don’t know what they are. They don’t mean anything now. It’s now disconnected from people’s experiences. In large part, the attempt to enforce the kind of behavior of trying to get people to stop saying the n-word would just lead to the normalization of even worser behavior (you’re literally telling someone you can’t say or do something). It would lead to substitutes (you would have trolls trying to come up with new words to use as a racial slur). Like, how would you police the n-word to the black community (they say it in rap songs)? It just sounds like a utopian project. And if that’s the case, we might as well get rid of racism in general.

Do you run across white people that don't accept that excuse for bad learned behavior when they are referring to black people that grew up in poverty, statistically likely to have had only one parent, surrounded by crime, drugs, alcohol, and who were constantly told the white man will never let you achieve success and will constantly look for ways to bring you down...and how as a little child, they watched the white man hang their grandfather? And this is the rhetoric they hear all the time as they are growing up. THEN, I hear a white person say: "Black people need to snap out of it. They aren't slaves anymore and we are no longer slave owners."
Why do you think a lot of white people accept that you're a product of your environment in something pertaining to this guy on this video, but dismiss this notion when it applies to the mistakes black people make?
Pretty naive for some to accept that a person is a product of the environment they grew up in only when it suits them. It's going to take several more generations to weed out all the damage done to the black people that were prisoners of war in their country back in Africa, that were then sold to wealthy people in Europe and America....and specifically the ones that were brought to America who were holistically treated like animals - and that took a blood bath earthquake of a civil war to liberate, all of which we still feel tremors and aftershock from even today.

Can you relate to the idea that people will often say things to and about their family, but when someone else talks about them it's fighting words? When people have had hate speech used against them, they will often try to reclaim and rebrand the word to give it less power. You see the same spirit in the LGBTQIA community where they may call each other certain things in the context of their in-group as a way of taking some of the pain out of words that have historically been used to bully or humiliate them. How those groups decide to deal with language that has been used towards them in a hateful manner is their business...but when an outsider uses those terms they are still a slur. Why is this so hard to understand? Can we never move past the 'Black people say it too' conversation and just do better? Wouldn't it just be easier for people to stop saying a word that others clearly find hurtful? You're expecting minorities to deal with all the baggage that comes with hearing those slurs, as if that's somehow easier than you just dropping a word from your vocabulary. That's wild to me

"grasping at straws" - The idiom is used to mean an attempt to succeed-such as in an argument, debate or attempt at a solution-when nothing you choose is likely to work. Also: A 1534 reference "clutch at straws" is referring to grabbing at grass growing by the river bank when you're in the river being swept away. A drowning man will clutch at straws.
"Clutching their pearls" is an idiom meaning to behave as if you are very shocked, especially when you show more shock than you ACTUALLY feel in order to show that you think something is morally bad.
Given the context of your comment, I think "grasping at straws" is the most applicable. (Saturdays are my TH-cam comments day. I have no life.)😆

We had to start all over. We made up a lot new words along the way...most of them I try not to say.
Oddly enough, women from the South in the States wear pearls. And these women can be stereotyped as a bit dramatic. And often times these women will over react to something that someone said so that no one will associate them with whatever was said. And when they start to over react, they reach for those pearls around their neck and grab aholt (a hold) of 'em (them).
I can almost guarantee you the women that clutch their pearls are likely to be the most guilty of whatever thing was said.
So did the term "clutch your pearls" originate in the South United States? No. It first came out in a show called "In Living Color." Hey - your guess is as good as mine. I have no idea how that happened.
I've never been to Europe. I bet I would like it. I could start a ground swell of Englishmen speaking English in the Tex/Mex dialect and thus destroying the English language there too! I would call it: "The boomerang effect!" Seems appropriate don't you think?

Either everyone can say it or everyone needs to stop, black people included. I mean, why is it ok for them to say it in rap songs? It’s harmful. And it can perpetuate bad stereotypes.
LOGICALLY, use of the n-word is never going to stop.

When discussing the history of the word and the transatlantic slave trade, it is important to note that West African slavers played a role in the capture and sale of enslaved individuals, primarily within the context of intra-African slavery. However, it is crucial to distinguish between the African slave trade that existed prior to European involvement and the transatlantic slave trade facilitated by European colonial powers.
Prior to European arrival, various forms of slavery existed in different regions of Africa. Slavery in Africa was a complex institution with different practices, such as debt bondage, servitude, and prisoner-of-war enslavement. It is important to acknowledge that these pre-existing African slavery practices were distinct from the large-scale, racially-based chattel slavery that developed during the transatlantic slave trade.
The transatlantic slave trade, which lasted from the 15th to the 19th centuries, involved the forced transportation of millions of Africans to the Americas as slaves. European colonial powers, particularly those from Portugal, Spain, England, France, and the Netherlands, played a dominant role in initiating and profiting from this brutal trade.
European slave traders established forts along the African coast, from where they engaged in the capture, purchase, and transport of enslaved Africans. African intermediaries, including some West African groups, were involved in the capture and initial sale of slaves to European traders. However, it is essential to recognize that the transatlantic slave trade would not have been possible without the demand for slaves from European colonizers and the systemic racism and dehumanization enforced by these European powers.
While some West African groups participated in the slave trade as middlemen, it is vital to emphasize that the overall responsibility for the transatlantic slave trade lies primarily with the European colonial powers, as they controlled the transportation, sale, and exploitation of enslaved Africans on a massive scale.
Understanding the history of the transatlantic slave trade requires acknowledging the multifaceted dynamics involved, including the role played by various African groups, European powers, and the complex social, economic, and political factors that influenced this deeply exploitative and inhumane trade.

Using the exact same logic you could say that rap music has a race problem too. I mean just look at the lyrics. Much worse than any country song I have ever heard. Seems like everyone in the media is picking on country because it is more conservative than hip hop is. It is a double standard.

@@monicac1147 not the same way a black comedian can joke about whites. Sad you can’t see it and it’s sad you resort to insults and other “words” intended to cause harm. To me there is no difference in the word used to degrade or insult. The “N” word should not be used even in a “joke” or accepted as a term of endearment.
