      andrew kasper I think that's very wishful thinking. The reality is most likely that many fans in the crowd don't care much for the song or haven't listened to it much, as it's far from a typical Slipknot track.

      Slipknot and Iowa, (the song) in particular is pretty much a live action macabre art piece. Everything and everyone on stage are in synchronized motion and cadence. They’re their own artful entity reciting their poetry. But it’s not just their lyrics that are poetic. It’s their expression; their anger, their pain, they’re wearing it on their sleeves. The way they make and perform their art acts as a sort of catharsis for them all simultaneously. It’s powerful; it’s profound

    this is why Slipknot is my favorite band & has been since i was 4. people say Slipknot "fell off" or "lightened up" but you can tell thats not the case at all. people forget that this record pretty much pushed everyone especially Corey to the most fucked up spot in their lives, as Corey said he almost killed himself this record/record cycle. this isnt something you play every night, this was a special night & for all us Maggots he opened himself up for us to see the still lingering pain & anger thats there. especially towards like 9:00 when he starts grabbing the metal thing on stage & screaming. those Iowa record vibes are still very much there, just harnessed more so now days. im glad he let it out & got lost in the track. at the end the way he softly said like goodnight thank you so much. sounds like he ran a marathon & is exhausted. cause he let that side of himself out. these dudes changed my life especially this record. ill forever be greatful for their music & the way theyve helped me through all my bs! thanks for this video man, it made my year!

      @KirePlasmaX 2 ปีที่แล้ว +28

      @@celestialband Iowa was by far the darkest, most depressing, vile thing the band had ever written, let alone put into words. Iowa has such dark lyrics, dark meaning, filled with nothing but absolute hate and despair. The track itself is 905 seconds, or 15:05 long, but the live version was dragged out even longer. The significance here, is that the full song has never been played live, and up until today, this is the only time, 20 years after being recorded, that Iowa has ever been sung in full length live. Corey definitely conveys the worst emotion here, visibly showing the pain he feels, and re-expressing the emotions he felt while making the song. Corey was lying naked on the ground, burning himself with candle wax and cutting himself on shards of glass, throwing up on himself, while recording Iowa. It only took him two takes.

  • @hakumusic2005
    @hakumusic2005 2 ปีที่แล้ว +28

    This is the type of music that everyone wants to hear in live because it's a rarity, but they never want it to be played continuously on a tour, because it's a unique and inhuman state of a broken, destroyed, devastated and tormented mind that nobody thinks about getting there, but when it does, it's like a nightmare as a kid, you never want to have those thoughts again, and that's what brings all the macabre and sober air to this song.
    As is clear from the images and the screams heard throughout this "session", it was a hard trip into the past for Corey, I think he needed to do this because of the pressure of the fans who always wanted or dreamed of hearing Iowa in his full and purest legitimate state of pain and suffering seen within the album, and I can say that this experience gets clearer and worse to see it in live, it's like seeing a complete suicide of his closest friend, but in the slowest and most painful way as possible, for bring to you eternal trauma to your long and miserable life that awaits you.
    It's really necessary to give Corey a standing ovation for having done this for the fans, it's like a achievement made for him that took that weight off his back of having to play this song for completely, and for the fans, who finally had the opportunity to see in high quality what Iowa is all about in its purest state. It was certainly one of the most difficult songs to play live for all his history and meaning within the album and the band, but we should know an important detail, playing this song involves being willing to have a severe and hard time of pain and suffering that you wouldn't want on your worst enemy, so we must never force Corey and Slipknot to play Iowa all over again, for Corey's sake, for the band's sake, and for all of us.

      I gave it some thought these days 'cause i just discovered this song and i don't think it is accurate to compare the songs Daddy: a victim's story of rape (Being a real story) to Iowa: a tale of (possible) murder and dead raping and madness. It's like saying poor you who raped a corpse, it sounds off 😌
      Nevertheless, backstory wise both very disturbing but not for the same reasons. The only reasons why Iowa is painful is for the deconstruction it puts us and the band in: a truely disturbed mind(whether it's but intoxicating yourself or by basically abusing another being), and also the backstory concerning the recording with the glass and the screaming and all, but again, to me it's about not being yourself, to a certain extent to suppress yourself, exiting from your own shell of sanity/health (regarding the drugs). Then Daddy is more about being torn(autocorrect suggested korn weirdly enough) inside out, being raped of a piece of your soul when you never asked for it (espacially as a kid), overall, being a victim and this goes on and on because you weren't believed, when Jonathan breaks down during this song and performances, it's his past that shows up, so many repressed feelings, that he probably grew up to understand, rationalize... etc, he is struck by all those things that traumatized him.
      Definitely not the same kind of pain.
      I shouldn't be spending that much time analyzing all this... It's so much evil and hurt... okay goodnight !

    It’s so mesmerizing and fascinating how rare they perform this. It’s like the song itself is a sacred ritual for them to perform. Mostly due to how much it takes out of Corey. Its a complete purge of all that anger and dark shit out of them.

    When i use my earphone to hear this, and WOW!! It's so amazing! Even I'm not there, but i can feel how incredible this show is. I can't describe, but this one is different.

    Insane how Corey Taylor can pull off those rough of vocals so crisp and clear. On beat too. Fuck he is insane! Love his music! This whole album my favorite. Really brings it back to the deep core of Slipknot back n the day

    this is one of the best live performances by slipknot I've ever seen it's so intense and cory sounds like he is dieing himself and going through some real pain not for show but real I mean like personal pain it's intense and insane and magical at the same time they did well with this it's so deep and ruthless and ruff and a constant blood flow from cuts and stabbs from his voice it's almost impossible to describe in words it's dark and bloody brilliant 😜

      He was at a really dark point. He was dealing with alcaholism, and in the studio he was cutting himself with glass, vomiting and thats why he struggles performing it. It takes him back.

    Im glad Chris was a part of this performance. Vman and Jay are great, but would be insane to see Paul and Joey play this since they helped create it

  • @felipegiraldo8100
    @felipegiraldo8100 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    it amazes me how he didnt give a shit in attempting to perform this with proper vocal technique, je hust went as raw as the album version, truly screaming his guts out, obviously his voice cracked so much, he could affort to do it with that same power and consitency as back in the day, but it was highly apretiated how he showed he still had that rawness for a moment, he ended really fucked up, IOWA is no joke
