Well, it's real for Joe Odagiri to hate hero tokusatsu genre, because he don't want to do a pose and to much move. Before Kuuga, he got casted for Go Green in Gogo-V series but he failed because he didn't want to do the Henshin Pose.
I think we all agree the end of Yuusuke Godai is officially ended on Last Episode of Kamen Rider Kuuga. Let him be a legend.

I think Joe Odagiri doesnt mind Kuuga but he just hates the hero tokusatsu genre. He also wont want to give up his role as Godai Yuusuke
I knew that Joe Odagiri does not hate Kuuga. I believe that he even loves his work in Kuuga. I think what made Kuuga the most different is that it feels more realistic and grounded which was what Joe Odagiri attracted the most. I wanted to have a Kamen Rider show like Kuuga someday.
I think the magic of Tokusatsu shows is that the actors and actresses as well as the crews are like family. They have a lot of journeys together and they always go together and hang out and talk to each other even years after the show ended (although not for all shows I bet)
I respect Joe Odagiri a lot for Kuuga and I hope that the actor returns in a more mature and realistic Kuuga story someday
A Kuuga revival would be pretty good, especially with Odagiri Joe reprising his role.

I tend to agree with Joe about the very toy commercial aspect of the newer seasons.
Glad to hear it was only rumors, though. We might never see him again as Yussuke but knowing he doesn,t consider it a mistake or a dark past makes me happy.

Decade was my first rider seen in Japanese. I wondered why people hated Onodera Yuusuke so much because I started with Ryuki on local television. Then I saw Kuuga, then I saw Zi-O did to Tsukasa what his show did to Kuuga. And I was like "Yeah, history repeats itself"

I can definitely understand not wanting to be apart of a project unless the offer or script was really good. From my understanding, Joe Odagiri is a high profile actor so he’d want to give his all with any role that he’s given, especially for a character from early in his career.
Has Joe Odagiri said anything back when everyone was celebrating the 50th anniversary?
I still kind of hope that he comes back even just for the big 50th Anniversary thing they're planning. It just won't feel complete without the Original Kuuga.
Maybe he and Takatera can set aside their differences with Toei just this once.

Highly unlikely no, they're not the issue. It's Toei's poor direction is the reason why none of them don't want no part of it.
Nah, not a word to my knowledge. I highly doubt any sort of return is likely unless he has a big change of heart in his older years (as actors sometimes do about roles they tried to put behind them).

Odagiri: Yeah. It was not a project I liked but still had passed the audition. I really didn’t know what to do. It was either giving up acting by leaving my agency or just hang in there and do it. Those were the only options I had.
Interviewer: While doing Kuuga, right?
Odagiri: Yes. However, the producer, who is a very interesting and funny person, said that they wanted to “destroy the image that Kamen Rider had until then”. I then thought that was something I was good at. And I guess that became my motivation.
It was toei fault in the first place they even ruin hibiki.
Kuuga was my first Kamen Rider show that i've finished from start to end and it's my most favorite Rider series of them all as well so I absolutely agree with everything that you said dude and Yusuke will ALWAYS be my #1 most favorite Rider protagonist ever!! 🔥😊
I thought he was the primary reason Decade had other actors (alternative riders) show up vs the real ones. Blade and Kiva's actor did show up though.

Kiva’s actor most likely showed up because he was still filming scenes from Kiva when Decade started filming, and Blade...well, I don’t really know why they didn’t change Kanzaki. Maybe they just wanted to rub some salt in the wound that is Blade’s ending
I remember reading that the draft was basically "we either get every actor back, or we get none back." Obviously they went with the latter (save for Wataru's cameo early on) but that clearly relaxed after the head writer left suddenly and we started seeing more actors reprise their roles.
I believe he has stated that he has respect for the show kuuga but not much for the toku genre in general. There’s no denying that kuuga is a bit of a black sheep (different not bad) of the franchise given how slow placed and darker it is as well as having a larger connected narrative rather than the more episodic series that categorize the heisei riders. Given the direction of the newer kr series I doubt he would ever come back bar something incredible since he didn’t come back for the literal end of the heisei era special
No, Kuuga is not a black sheep of Rider franchise. Kuuga was actually very popular, regard as one of the best Rider story. Sometime even overrated it. The very reason why Agito was the next Rider after that, take many similarity from Kuuga due to the success of Kuuga. The people who doesn't like Kuuga is the group of people from new gen who grew up watching the modern Rider now with more lighthearted and tons of geeky gadget. Some even state they don't like Kuuga simply because Kuuga doesn't have Rider teammates in his show.

Episodic 1 monster per 2 episode actually happens after Den-O. Before that most rider still follow Kuuga theme of having continuous story.
After Den-O 1 monster per 2 episode become the norm until Gaim returned to one big narrative system.
Most of the highest rated late heisei rider are actually those who discarded the 2 episode system (Gaim and Build)

Thank you for talking about this! I still hear this rumor, and I always feel bad for Odagiri-san. I don't know the source, so maybe this is untrue, but I remember hearing that he was unsure about accepting the offer for Godai, but when he was given the script he liked it enough to accept. I also remember hearing that Odagiri-san was offered to return as Godai in Heisei Forever, but he didn't like the script so he turned it down. But that's also a rumor, so I'm not sure if it's true.
Either way, I respect Odagiri-san's feelings about Kuuga and tokusatsu hero shows. It seems like he's very fond of Kuuga, but also he's had many roles since Kuuga and I'm sure they are all important to him in some way. I think it's okay if he doesn't come back as Godai, even if I would like to see it someday too. The Godai we love still exists, and we can go back to watch him any time we want.
I remember hearing that Odagiri would only return to a solo Kuuga project without other Riders, which I find highly unlikely to happen.
His come back is really hard now but I'll continue to wait Joe Odagiri as Yusuke Godai come back :)

Can you make a video about Kamen rider Kabuto actor Hiro Mizushima? I heard he did something or his agency that Toei never want him back as Souji Tendo.
The short of that story as I've heard it is that Hiro had left his agency to form his own, mostly out of how he saw other contracted stars of the agency he was part of being treated, but because since they were made aware of his plans, they had him blacklisted, meaning any company that does manage to get him could face heavy scrutiny for having him feature, which does mean Tendou may never return unless Hiro is able to get the blacklisting reversed.
IMPORTANT UPDATE EDIT: It turns out Hiro has actually been very busy with other projects and his own family life to have returned to Rider, how the blacklisting story began, I'm not sure, but it does mean if he is able to come back, we could see Tendou again after all.
The only other Kamen Riders I know to be blacklisted with him are Super-1's because his actor had scammed fans out of money claiming items from Super-1 he had were being kept in the hands of the Yakuza who wanted money paid, and Hibiki's because of mounting behavioural issues partly stemming from Hibiki's mid-series change ups, and allegations of sexual abuse.

Actually, Hibiki’s actor was not happy with his show’s second half and was pissed off since Shirakura (who replaced the first half’s producer) messed with the production and changed what the show was originally supposed to be. This led him to leave on bad terms with Toei and Shirakura, and didn’t come back ever since (although, he does come back to voice his character in video games)
Honestly, I'm on the same boat, whether or not I wanted Joe Odagiri to return, it's all up to him really. That's the power of freedom over choices

I wouldn't want to see Joe Odagiri come back actually. I would LOVE to see him as Godai Yusuke again, but not as Kuuga- Only because Yusuke meant so much to me as a character.
If anything, I would want to see an episode-long OVA where Yusuke comes home after a 20 year adventure, and returns to Sakurako, Minori, Tamasaburo, Nana and Jean. And of course a trip to Nagano so he can meet Enokida and her son, Tsubaki, and of course Ichijo.
I am absolutely down with this as Kuuga & it's cast is my most favorite in all of Kamen Rider and I would really LOVE to see them all comeback together again for a 20 year reunion 🥲
Tokusatsu is not realistic and that should be okay. Yes, a little realism would be nice but not so much that it basically becomes a documentary. Why is there fiction at all if everything should be super realistic? But if Joe Odagari doesn't want to do it that`s his choice.
I've heard that Toei did try get Joe back for Zi-O, but what they suggested didn't interest him and ultimately, Kuuga was the only Rider to not get a proper tribute for Zi-O since for Double they had Katsumi/Eternal, and for Drive, they had Gou/Mach in the movie, and Chase/Mashin Chaser in the show.
Maybe for the series after Saber, which will no doubt want to be an anniversary season of some kind to celebrate Rider reaching 50 years old along with the other projects revealed, he'll come back if Yuusuke is given a purpose in the story worth returning for than just "give the hero the Kuuga item".
@Thomas Meehan It still counts towards representing Double, at least to me, since he's the best we got with how Renn Kiriyama (Shotaro) and Masaki Suda (Philip) weren't able to return, and it didn't exactly have to rely on using Another Double to make it a tribute since you already have a villain through Katsumi and when he was summoned.
He didn't return because Takatera didn't return. Takatera is a man Odagiri has great respect for and is the only one who could ever get him to return for Kuuga, so much so that Odagiri was still on-board in acting for Kuuga's movie that was in Development Hell for years as Takatera was on the project before it being cancelled. However, now that the whole Hibiki thing caused Takatera to burn all bridges with Toei and never work with them again, the chances of Odagiri returning are pretty much gone.
Mmmm thank you for explaining the whole situation as you can probably tell alot of information gets lost in translation and we on the west don't get to watch or listen on certain interviews. I'm glad things can get cleared up faster then in 2008, since tokusatsu is getting more popular everywhere now.
If odagiri does appear (which is unlikely) he would only appear very briefly and give his successor a word of advice before leaving and giving a thumbs up
Personally, I don't want Joe Odagiri come back with the character Godai Yusuke. If he transforms just one more time, that's mean that the world needs Kuuga again, and world's peace will be lost. Think about it, that's not the right way to make him back. Godai is a legend now, he's out. He need to be rest.
I feel like we need a new gen of Kuuga for Reiwa. Take example like Ultraman Trigger, a new gen for Ultraman Tiga. They can make it Godai's son as the new Kuuga. Instead of gadget like modern Rider now, make it Godai's son inherited the Kuuga's power naturally but basically mutated with new host, therefore a brand new form of Rider will be born. About the name, idk maybe Kruuga instead or just simply Neo-Kuuga. Godai's Kuuga must appear in the show as well, regardless if Joe can reprise it or not. Just state that the OG Kuuga who appear in the show is indeed Godai (not lame ass Onedara from Decade). Might as well introduced some element from Agito as well because Agito was technically take place in the same universe as Kuuga.

After OOO new movie, and Smart Brain cameo in Genm special episode, I legit want more crossover with original actor such as - Faiz x Kabuto movie, how interesting to see this two cool Rider meet each other. Another crossover that I like to see is Hibiki, Kiva, Wizard and Ghost in one movie, basically a full on supernatural Rider movie. A movie center around villain will be nice too, like Smart Brain, Foundation X and Genm Corporation duking out each other of which is the most powerful evil company. They can introduce more evil Rider in this crossover made by this 3 company

Based on what you said, it sounds like he just hates how Kuuga was made/produced into a Tokusatsu show... If it was made how America makes their super hero movies, would he do it? It'd be a bit more realistic, but who really knows.

I really love Kuuga, Gurongi design, Daguva. All of them really cool and badass, but KR nowaday far from that.
Maybe He just don't want trapped by tokusatsu genre like other actors. Some past Kamen rider actors or similar genre usually can't get out from their roles.
Furthermore, him became cameo for current rider series feels not right because kuuga series looks more like drama than tokusatsu.
And let's get be real kuuga, agito, ryuuki & blade are the last modern rider series that feels more serious and drama oriented.
