Imagine your job being to know a lot about the video game industry and you don't even know anything about Dragon Quest, the most important RPG of all time lmao
I'm not that much into the RPG genre, but wouldn't Final Fantasy be a better franchise for "most important RPG"? Don't get me wrong, Dragon Quest is huge, but wasn't FF more important for the genre?
Dragon Quest was born before Final Fantasy and FF actually copied from it multiple times. Not to mention that A: Final Fantasy doesn't matter to anyone anymore in Japan(its own country) while Dragon Quest is so popular that Japan made "Dragon Quest Day" into an official national holiday and B: FF has been dead for a good amount of time, especially as an RPG, while Dragon Quest has never become a sellout.
I love rpg and i'm not into dragon quest. Imagine having different opinions?
@@thatanimeweirdo Final Fantasy is, probably, the more popular of the two franchises Worldwide. But Dragon Quest is, definitely, the more important of the two.
The fact they said dragon quest was underwhelming is just so bad dragon quest is a huge amazing jrpg it’s always super annoying when they just make fun of or just ignore jrpg games they don’t know

The reaction to Dragon Quest was a bit insulting. I can understand not caring for it, but the series a legend. Without it you would not have RPGs such as Final Fantasy. It was not until the success of Dragon Quest that Final Fantasy got off to a start. You don't have to like a series, but you can show it respect.

I can understand not liking the game. But you should at least know that it's a big deal, especially if it's your job to be tuned into the game industry.

Meowarco Honestly, all around the internet, so many commentators revealed their ignorance of Dragon Quest. You don’t have to like it, but it’s the biggest franchise in Japan and if you like jrpg’s I just don’t get the sleep on it. It’s also been Nintendo’s bread and butter 3rd party franchise in Japan, and they’ve remained persistent in doing the same in the west.
@@grapes9h5 I expected them to announce just Loto, not the Luminary. The Dream is for them to say they were making 1 2 & 3 for switch. That'd be more of a TGS thing though.

@@nuttedlemons If you watch any reactions from japanese youtubers you'll see that you couldn't be more wrong. Banjo is very popular there, and they were excited that he was being included in the smash cast. Also, even if that were true, at least they're not as petty as americans who think that the game should only cater to them, and throw a tantrum because a character from a less popular game was included.
I'll fix it :
Banjo is KNOWN in Japan mostly by older gamers. Popular? Not really. Well known? Yes. For the older generation.
Outside japan, most people know about Banjo, even if they didn't grow with him, it's a somehow well known name.
In japan? Most people below 26-27 never heard of the character. At all.
Yuusha/The Hero on the other hand is a known to any gamer there.
It's def. not a mirror situation.
I'll also add that the lack of knowledge about Dragon Quest is mostly a North America thing, as it is somehow popular in a few European countries. But hey, North America being ignorant to Japanese media? What else is new really.

When I was young, you had FF and DQ (or DW in the west) and both were a big deal.
This franchise does not deserve that kind of hate or being called underwhelming. Besides, XI was awesome.

i think when it comes to reactions like this, i prefer easy allies. They just have way more excitement. Especially with dragon quest! Still love KInda funny though!

It was a very good conference but DAMN I wanted that Metroid Prime Trilogy Remastered announcement!
I hope they are just sitting on it until 4 gets closer and releasing it to garner interest before it drops.

I mean sure FF 7 remake news was hype and so was FF8 remaster amongst other releases, but Banjo in Smash, BOTW2, NMH, Contra, Panzeer, more news on LM3 and AC amongst other things put Nintendo over the top. Not to mention games like Witcher 3, Spyro Trilogy, Alien Isolation, RE 5 and 6 amongst other things coming to Switch

Kinda Funny? More like Kinda Sad.
Man, they just have no energy left, do they? I've never played a dragon quest game, but I previously watched a reaction to that smash reveal of a bunch of guys literally losing their shit (in a good way) over their inclusion in the game, so I know that its a big deal. In the same way, I'm a huge Banjo-Kazooie fan and I have serious hype over their inclusion in Smash, even though there's probably less Banjo fans than DQ fans.
I also don't particularly like that they just have nothing to say about the Square Enix games. Even though I haven't played many of them, I could feel the legitimate hype and excitement from the crowd during that Square Enix conference. And even though I will not play most of the games shown on that stage, those games and announcements are HUGE to people who love JRPGs. Saying that the conference was bad or underwhelming just because you're not interested in that genre of game, that doesn't actually make it bad or underwhelming. I think it was an amazing conference for Square Enix fans and lovers of JRPGS, so that's a win.
I get super annoyed when disinterest in something becomes masked as attempted criticism. I never got into anime, but I'm not gonna sit back and say that the anime-heavy conference was sub-par, because that assessment can only really apply to myself and my own interests. Someone else can and definitely has had a very different reaction than me, so I try to take that into account when judging something that I'm not invested in.
And that's why I can't be a fan of kinda funny. They come off so smug, especially Greg. They never fail to suck Sony's dick for even their mediocre games.
Congrats Greg. You predicted The Witcher 3 on Switch. Something that was pretty much known for weeks now...
And it really shows how little you guys know about JRPG's. You guys aren't lying when you say they aren't your thing. The Mana collection has Seiken Densetsu that was never released in the west and only had an English fan patch. Now it's finally bundled AND getting remade. That's a big deal for many.
Fantastic Direct overall though. Sequel to BOTW is awesome.

See even if I don’t know a character in smash I still observe then try their game later, currently playing dragon quest 11 and recently beat Persona 5 so now I have hype for the characters and understand what the buzz is all about

This is the biggest first world problem ever, but since I'm in Australia and miss a lot of E3 live, I'm really keen to see the reactions on TH-cam BUT all E3 KF thumbnails have had "spoilers" in them for the watch along, but the review is just the platform/publishers logo - shouldn't it be flipped around?
They should put in a Ouija Board mechanic in Luigi's Mansion 3 and call it a Luija Board.

Square won for me. None of these Nintendo games excite me too much except Astral Chain and Empire of Sin. And Empire of Sin is coming to PS4 also.
Sony wasn't at e3 because they have nothing left. They've had the same exact presentation for the last 4 years. It's been updates on games announced 3 years ago with reveals of another game coming in two years. We're at the end of the console generation now and their well is empty. I'm sure they'll be next year since e3 still gets a lot of eye balls, most of which were on Nintendo and Xbox this year because of their absence.
