In 1968 I had a 52' MGTD with 289 and Olds narrowed rear. Snapped rear U-joints all the time. Got really good at changing them so I could go back and cruise & race on a Friday on the main drag.

Guys, seriously why not task a driveshaft shop with job to build custom half shafts for the "Z" with bigger everything? Once again Emily's smile melts my heart, so damn adorable.....
When Paul Newman was racing his 280Z in SCCA "C" Production, he won 4 National Championships and became pretty familiar with the car and it's limitations. He said the R180 diff was good for up to 400 hp and the R200 was good for 600 hp. Another approach has been to go to the CV diff out of a Subaru but I'm not familiar with their models. I've heard that works well also. I started collecting 240Z's in the early '80s and finally moved on in the early 2000s after 5 of them tried to "take-over" my barn-yard. The last was an AutoCross car that was an awful lot of fun... all 280 running gear, L28/BW-T5/R200. It's a lot of fun when they look "sleeper-stock" but they get off the line like a small block. DatZen takes that to a whole different level, and it's hard to try looking innocent with 8 stacks sticking out of the hood!!! :^) I didn't know Aaron was going to turn this VLOG into a comedy routine... "We'll have to use self-control." That's got to be the best line in the whole video, coming from the guy who while burning rubber like a drift-car slams the next gear and THROWS the half-shaft down the road! I knew there were a whole list of reasons I enjoy these videos so much; this is just one more! Thanks Aaron. ;^)

I've got a LSX swapped Datsun, I have an r200 long nose with 300zx cv axles. I think they would work well for you guys. I also swapped a shortnose LSD 240sx pumpkin, and milled/welded custom half shaft ends to make it an LSD for about 80 bucks and some hard work
I just saw the Rotsun update getting a new rear end and now seeing this I might as well do mine while its on stands. Looking forward to updates on the DatZen and other cool stuff you guys are always messing with!

The u-joint,especially the small greasable type,are always the weak link. The non-greasable type will last you longer. But slamming gears has GOT to be done!!
If you really want to cut the zen loose wait until after it rains you won't have to worry about traction resisting the torque and less likely to break another half shaft.

For what you're doing, a bang all day straight axle (Ford 9") is the only way to go. Unless you can find a 9" independent setup out of an old T-Bird...

Thay Do Make A Heavy Duty Hafe Shaft Setup. Thay Are About 1k. Also The Nissan bearings are preferred to be used because they're stronger even the BMW guys use them

Roadkill had the same problem with the rotsan. Maybe a Ford explorer center diff? Those are pretty beefy. Mike finnigan has one in his c10 project truck
Got to admit you are cute and have a great attitude... anyway.. Take the half shafts down to the local commercial truck driveline repair and have a pair made to order... They can make a balanced pair good for over #1000 torque.....
Check out arizonazcar.com They make a CNC rear mustache bar for a Niss Q-45. That diff and half shafts will handle the torque of the LS, without a problem. AZC also makes THE MOST fab Z suspension replacement parts.

Did the welds throw the weight off at all? Adding mass to anything that spins tends to throw balance off.
Googled and saw a pair of new kicka$$ billet half shafts for just over $1100.00... will be interesting to see what you decide.

Have you tried Spicer U-joints? That yoke is toast!

Go with a live rear axil ford 9” than you can worry about the trans. Road Kill needs to do the same with their Rotsun!
