@Ian Downey We mention both Canon and Nikon fixed focal length lenses. The intent was not to cover all lenses but just to give an overview of some options for fast glass. Thanks for watching.

You're right that Hi 2 ISO for the Nikon D7000 is 25,600. But that figure is a function of "Hi" ISO, which is akin to digital zoom. We're presenting here the maximum true ISO of each camera. Thanks for watching.

This is "the best" low light video that I have ever seen. Straight to the point, informative, not a lot of "noise" in the presentation, just pure, uncut, greatly useful information. LOVEIT
BH I just want to say Thanks !!! cause the videos you guys are uploading are invaluable in therms of knowledge, please keep them coming. Congrats !!! Pablo
im a beginner in using cameras... i learned a neat trick in low light photography... with a kit lens that is limited to 3.5 apperture, rather than raising the iso that will cause noise, i was advised to lower the shutter speed. but i haven't tried it yet but it does brighten the image on the lcd screen of the camera.
I found the videos on your channel to be very informative! I subscribed, because I am planning to get my first DSLR, but I am torn between the Nikon D7000 and the Canon T4i! Which should I get?
Interesting video once again.Thank you! However, I , like many get it wrong when trying to shoot our fav bands at concerts. Which wide angle lens would you suggest for a canon 70d user, Budget wise!?! I already have a sigma 70-200 f/28 however w/out VC ( or IS ). I have been refused access with my monopod on occasion! But it is the wide angle area of photography in low light I really want to discover... F/2.8 or even f1.8 preferably with image stabiliser due to my shaky hands. Many thanks once again.
hi i am going to buy my first dslr camera but i have tried friends camera's.. my choices was either canon eos 6d or nikon d600 both are full frame camera's so as i was deciding to get the canon i noticed d5200 has mostly same spec of d600 exept its crop sensor and its cheaper than d600. can i have your idea on this?
It was a great presentation however I was looking for shooting in lowlight without a flash or speed light.. I was hoping to know some tricks about iso and aperature.. Thanks
Amazing video, amazing channel and most importantly excellently explanation.....I dont know much about photography, bt i just love it.... and planning to buy DSLR most probably Nikon D600. I just subscribe your channel to learn. Many Many Thanx
Or you when taking low light pictures, when using 1s or lower shutter speeds you could use a 2 second timer, so when you go to press the button to take the picture. I should know, I took 3 pictures tonight in VERY LOW LIGHT, they came out AWESOME. Thanks again B&H for the LUMIX LX7, best buy EVER, so far. I want to buy another camera in the future with an APS-C sensor. which is bigger than the 1/1.7" sensor my LX7 has now. (+1). BTW, I NEVER use the Flash, always FULL MANUAL.
I assume the 50mm f 1.8 lens for the Nikon is a full frame lens , which on a D 7000 series camera ( or any Nikon APS-C camera ) will " translate " as a 75 mm f 2.8 or thereabouts - correct me if I'm wrong
Hi, I’m starting to get into night landscapes, with all the cameras out there, I’m a bit lost. Can I ask for your expert opinion about which body is best for this type of photography? Can you give an example in each of these brands, Canon, Sony and Nikon? Ideally Not over $3500. Many thanks. Happy 2020!
For your needs, the Sony A7 III would be a solid option based on its low light capability and full frame sensor. Below is a kit with this camera and a standard zoom lens that is within your budget. bhpho.to/2uKYpas
Why do you show an out-of-focus image while talking about long exposure (camera-shake). They are two distinct sorts of un-sharpness and there is no way any image stabilizer will correct for bad focusing (not even a tripod, for that matter). I know it might seem a small error to people who already know the difference between the two, but it can be misleading to novices in the field and since there are so many details in the end to cope with, they better link together.
Using a wide fast zoom like the Tokina AT-X 14-20mm f/2 PRO DX Lens for Canon EF would be a good option. This will allow you to maintain fast enough shutter speeds in lower light and is nice zoom range for up close shooting and more dramatic composition. Kicking up the ISO a bit too would help to provide more ambient light as well. bhpho.to/2iHDWsa *Andrea
Question: I have been trying to take b/w pics in the dark without a flash.Having trouble with getting it right. I'm using a Sony a5000 and can't see anything taking the picture. A lot of them turn out blurry. Any suggestions?
Both cameras will perform well in low light levels. I would say image quality would be almost equal. The 4Ti has higher 12,800 ISO, Phase detection AF during video and more 17.9 MP. The D7000 is weather sealed, has a Pentaprism VF, faster top shutter speed (1/8000s) and shoots @ 6fps. C h u c k askbh{at}bandh{dot}com
+Emilia Gallegos - If you’re doing surveillance, you should be able to get away with more noise in the photo than an image being used for other purposes. So for low light shooting, your best bet would likely be to bump up the ISO as high as you need to get a decent exposure. How well a Canon DSLR would perform in low light (how high its ISO goes and how much noise at higher ISO) would depend on the specific DSLR. That being said, any of the current Canon DSLRs on the market should be more than capable of being used for surveillance photos and video in low light. *Christina* AskTH-cam@bhphoto.com
I need a cheap camera to hook to my laptop to stream videos from the dancefloor at a night club. any suggestions? I've tried Logitech webcam but not too good in low light.

It's ISO. International Standards Organisation which sets the absolute standard for sensor sensitivity in cameras (used to be on film too). ASA and DIN was replaced by ISO as an international standard. :)
lalita rai On some level, that will depend on what exactly you are shooting and the aesthetic you are going for. That being said, you might look at a standard zoom with an f/2.8 max aperture. That "blurry" image at 04:21 can't be caused by long shutter. It has to be out of focus. Or am I wrong?

Yes, a Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8G lens would be more like 75mm on a D7000 due to the crop factor.
The Sony doesn't have on body stabilization. It is on the lens. I wish it did like my old k20d

What about indoors at horse shows? Low light and moving objects
Thank you very much Mr. Becker.
Nikon also have 35mm f/1.8 and 50mm f/1.4 and 1.8 as well as Canon. Why only mention the Canon.
What shooting mode do I set to?( Nikkon ) A, S, M? Auto?
Tony Zhang download the Nikon manual for your specific camera from the Nikon site....it has loads of useful info...

Correction: It's not I.S.O., it's ISO (Iso, as one word) and it's no abbreviation, but originates from the greek word isos.
+Tom D You must be fun at parties. If ISO isn't I.S.O. as an acronym, then it shouldn't be frequently spelled in all capital letters.
SalandFindles do your research. no need to try and insult me. that won't worklol
It's ISO. International Standards Organisation which sets the absolute standard for sensor sensitivity in cameras (used to be on film too). ASA and DIN was replaced by ISO as an international standard. :)

nikon d90 which lens can i use for indoor event
lalita rai On some level, that will depend on what exactly you are shooting and the aesthetic you are going for. That being said, you might look at a standard zoom with an f/2.8 max aperture. It's out of focus, that picture isn't blurred, it just out of focus.
Simple, Canon is professionals.
That is Sony Alpha 6000 not NEX. I would know because I own one~
Maybe Im not a human :-) because I am able to do one second hand hold , no support like walls, Just deep breath, pretty decent photo
Why do you even make this tutorial since everyone who has a DSLR already knows what everything does?
You must be.Comedian.
Your statement is incorrect. Not everyone knows. Some people buy it to learn with it.
