    The speaker discusses the importance of glucosamine for dogs with arthritis or joint pain, emphasizing that aging dogs produce less glucosamine naturally, leading to joint issues. They highlight green lipped mussels as the top food-based source of glucosamine due to their high content of glucosamine and chondroitin. Green lipped mussels also provide anti-inflammatory benefits without harming the liver and gut lining. The speaker advises using green lipped mussels with at least 5% fat and provides a recommended dosage of 400mg for every 25 pounds of weight.
    The speaker also mentions eggshell membrane (NEM) as another effective source of glucosamine, containing joint-friendly proteins like chondroitin and hyaluronic acid. They recommend a dosage of 150mg per 25 pounds of weight, with a higher initial dose for the first 10 days.
    Additionally, the speaker suggests incorporating certain foods rich in glucosamine into a dog's diet, such as bone broth and animal joints containing bone and cartilage. However, they caution against feeding bones with skin, as it is high in pro-inflammatory omega-6 fats, which can exacerbate inflammation.
    Overall, the speaker provides comprehensive information on natural sources of glucosamine for dogs and encourages viewers to ask questions about natural supplements. They conclude by asking viewers to like, share, and spread the word about the video.

      Several viewers inquire about specific brands of green lipped mussel supplements for their dogs. They seek recommendations for reputable brands that offer quality products. However, specific brand names are not mentioned in the comments provided. Instead, viewers express interest in finding supplements made from whole freeze-dried green lipped mussels, emphasizing the importance of sourcing high-quality products for their pets' joint health. Therefore, while viewers seek guidance on brand recommendations, the comments do not specify particular brands of green lipped mussel supplements.

    Hi Dana, great video. My 8 y/o mutt have been pausing before the stairs after our strolls, so I'm suspecting the beginning of arthritis. I'm thinking of using chicken bones/legs (no skin) as a source of glucosamine since from your recommendations it's the most available here. I read that using a crockpot to slow cook the chicken would make it safe for her to eat the bones as well. My questions are: 1. Is that a good idea in general? 2. Would it be ok to cook a full pot, deep freeze most of it and heat a portion in the microwave every day? 3. Can you recommend a daily portion size (even a ballpark estimate would be great)? she is about 60 lbs. Her usual food is senior super premium kibble and an omelette from 2 chicken eggs every other day + a bit of treats. Thanks!

    Great watch Dana, thanks!
    One thing you missed is letting people know to make sure the GLM supplements they buy are from “whole freeze dried” GLM as a lot of the GLM supplements out there come from GLM that has already had the oil extracted, so a lot of the fatty acids and health benefits are gone.

    I feed him 1 or 2 dried greenlipped muscles (Suggested to grow in pristine New Zealand waters) per day and also a small bit (About 2 inch of small diameter) of shark cartlidge
    Also making some gelatine treats for him and give him some bone broth (small amount) made from lambs bones

    Thanks for this Dana, very educational indeed. Are gizzards a good source of glucosamine too? I also have a question about decaf green tea. I read in one of your newsletters that they are safe and healthy for dogs. The one I bought contains 10mg of caffeine per tea bag. Though it is labelled as decaffeinated. I’m interested in this topic as I have a 13 year old pug with decreasing mobility. I read the following so now I need to educate myself on the source location of the mussels that I buy: Other potential negative impacts include competition with the oyster fishery, displacement of native mussels, and carriers of diseases and parasites harmful to native species. In addition to parasites and diseases, the green-lipped mussels can accumulate toxic substances when they grow in polluted waters, which wen consumed can cause Paralytic Shellfish Poisoning.

      The problem with chicken skin is the gross amount of omega-6 fats. Why not try an alternative source? The skin should be removed but it would be really hard! The alternative is to find pastured chickens that aren't fed grain.

    Can I give cooked green lipped mussels, how many?... What are your thoughts on turmeric golden paste for joints, I'm hesitant to offering it too often because of the studies done on Iron deficiency anemia.
    I start when they're pups... raw meaty bones which contain cartilage I think is the best natural support for bones. My dogs love stuffed dehydrated, or raw trachea as a lovely treat. Also the dog needs to be absorbing nutrients, if it has digestive imbalances, it won't be absorbing all nutrients from their diet. Gut microbiome is important. Bone broth is great for the gut too

    • @DogsNaturallyMagazineDNM
      @DogsNaturallyMagazineDNM  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bone broth can be high in lead and glyphosate, so be careful. If you cooke the GLM, you will destroy the fatty acids and phospholipids that are a large part of their benefits. As for golden paste, I do question the bioavailability - I would opt for a natural product that is water soluble.
