  • Here's the movement with clock chiming the St. Michaels - more interesting as it uses all 8 hammers and gongs.

    Incredibly beautiful sounding chime. Probably the most beautiful one I’ve heard in a long time

      I couldn’t agree more! Old things seem to be calming. Coal fires, especially those old black leaded ranges with a kettle to the side. Oil lamps being turned down a bit. The gentle glow behind the needle and dial of an old radio. The sound of a slow jazz record. Sigh.

    This clock plays Westminster and Whittington only, so far as I'm aware. I have sold my 1/2 share to a fellow clock and watch collector.

  • @glisses7
    @glisses7 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Having said this, usually dual-chime clocks play only Whittington and Westminster. The dial shows only these 2 chimes mentioned, unless the manufacturer got it wrong?!

      I remember seeing clocks which had the slider and then in the right it would be Whittington and left westminister, but there’s a lot of space in the middle but nothing would be written in the front or face of the clock. But putting it in the middle would do st. Michaels. I think the movement might have been taken from some other manufacture. Wow
      But this clock has it right I suppose

    Coleman, the problem is that I have dials but the train holes do not match the mechanism. These mechanism's are funny they are designed for their own clocks. I think I am going to get a vendor in the us who makes dials and try to bore the holes myself.

    This is really fantastic. I have the chime rods for this it is actually a triple chime set that includes the the Whittington too. I also have the movement and a case to go with it but I do not have an appropriate dial. I want to complete it s a project clock. Any ideas?

      Yes, depending on where you live, check out local auction houses for clock parts, on eBay for sure, car boot sales, or buy a clock that you want its dial from only and discard the rest, salvaging it only for parts such as hands, pendulum and gong block

      so far as I'm concerned, it is a DUAL chime only clock and both chimes are shown off.

      @@gaiuscoleman8815, It's strange that Urgos would decide to include the St. Michael chime on one of their dual-chime movements rather than the Whittington chime. Are you sure that this is not a triple chime? If I'm observing the chime barrel correctly, sometimes I see 3 pins near each other, which is implying 3 chimes. It may just be the poor perspective, or maybe my poor eyesight, though. I realize this video is from a few years ago at this point, and maybe you've sold this clock off, but it'd be interesting to know if you ever managed to confirm that it's only a dual chimer.
      In the case that it truly is only a dual chimer, it's a very unusual Urgos movement. The sound is absolutely beautiful, by the way. Thank you for sharing.

    • @DannysClocks
      @DannysClocks 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wait a second, just noticed something. I think you had switched it to Whittington but then switched it back!
      @ 0:45, you can see right at the end of the chime barrel, there is a black strip of metal attached to the chime hammer assembly by a flathead screw.
      @ 1:31 when you switch the chime, you can see this black strip of metal pushed out even further by the pivot for the chime barrel, and then you play the first quarter for what seems to be the Whittington chime.
      @ 1:40 you switched it again, but this time the black strip of metal is pressed all the way in, and then plays Westminster.
      I think you had actually switched it to Whittington, but thought that you had accidentally selected St Michael again, and then switched it back to Westminster.
