I just purchased a used copy of this lens for my 50th birthday. I use it on my 80D and I love it so far. I’m not sure yet if it’s me or the lens, but I’m using manual focus a lot to refine and/or to aid the autofocus. I’ve been shooting around my yard. Plants, my dogs, some lizards (female Anoles so far)?, and a Black Racer high up on bamboo. The lens has been very sharp with good contrast, plus the lens has a shallower DoF overall than I expected, so blurring distant backgrounds is a breeze.
I love mine for photographing street cats mostly. The rendering is the nicest of any lens I own, and it’s definitely not the most expensive lens I’ve bought. The only af “issues” I’ve had are either adapting to Sony or using it in low-ish light on the EOS R. Definitely surprised me how prone the camera was to struggling for focus the moment the light was less than ideal. And you won’t need a monopod, it has IS and you can easily shoot handheld down to at least 1/160.
Hi!! Im looking for this lens for wildlife photography precisely. But in my opinion, its weigth (1.1 Kg) and its F4 is what precisely looks appealing to me. On an APSC you have something like a 480mm F4 IS, super ligth weight and that sounds actually amazing. Also in spain you can find it arround 500€/600€. Hope to see you in the field with this lens and that we can see some of your pictures. Have a nice day and thanks for the vid!
I’ve used mine on the EOS R and my Sony A7R4. Image quality is fantastic on both, af is patchy at best adapted to Sony but that’s not entirely surprising.
Hi, my son is just starting out and has a canon 1dx with a canon 70-200 f4 lens. He is mainly photographing football outdors in daylight, would this be a good fit for him do you think. many thanks Rob
I have that lens hood on my 400mm and i love it, it is always extracted, no need for a UV filter or something like that to protect the glass, and you can't lose it, ideal. 🍻

I used this lens yesterday on my Canon EOS R. I was photographing a horse and her owner, I got some incredible shots!!! I want to use it again.

Damn, i've just got this lens because of how lightweight it is. It weight just bit more than 85L and it's far lighter than 70-200/2.8 or 100-400L
I have no problem with the lens on my Canon 1Dx same thing with my Canon 100-400
do you shoot sports|?
