As a Dominican born and frequent traveler to the DR, this man is probably the best source of information for expats I have come across. He is telling it like it is.
I’ve been living in the DR 3 years and he is 100% correct. The only point I will add is the location to live. There are other places, depending on what you are looking for. The central mountain region is very nice, more laid back and tranquil. Not much “tourist” places and nightlife, and costs even less.
I’m coming as soon as my daughter graduates from high school next year! My military pension ain’t really enough for retirement in the States but I can live good down there on $5K a month and have money to fly back and forth regularly! Thanks for the good info.
@@FeedScrn Life is full of risks, so I would rather enthusiastically pursue my dreams than live anxiously in fear of the unknown. I was “stuck” in my own house for most of 2020 and I’m still felling the effects of sitting in the house too long. “Everybody Dies, but not Everybody Lives”
@@FeedScrn I don’t want to be there year round either. My current job is fairly seasonal though so I wouldn’t mind spending the off-season on the beaches and golf courses in the DR and then rent it out for 4 or 5 months while I’m away. Eventually I would like to split my time between the DR, southeast Asia, and RV’ing in the US. My parents are getting up in age and I have a daughter who just started college so I want to be able to jump on a flight and be back a little sooner that that 2 day flight from the other side of the globe.
just a little advice your life will be more expensive if you move to a touristic places or town, if you decide to live in a regular town your life would be more cheap but a con of that is that the regular town would be less safe
Wow your video is so informative 🙏 thank you. My parents moved out of DR to US. Growing up they always told me US is safer, more job opportunities, and better. I never heard anyone else say it was safe to live over there. I really like how you mentioned about the north part of DR. Great video. I think the answer to the poor service is the poor pay. Some of these service employees get 10,000 pesos per month which is barely 200 dollars. If I had to serve tables for 200 a month and possibly spend 400 on expenses I would have a frown on my face and take my time... lol
Great video and info! I am seriously considering retiring in the DR. I will be visiting DR in 2024 and I want to connect with other Expats and DR prior to my visit.
Another informative video Greg with well presented opinions on the lifestyle, culture and preferred part of the country to live. I was told 10 years ago that on the north coast from Costambar up past Cabrera and Rio San Juan that there were between 45-50,000 expats. With the additional traffic on the roads now, gotta be many more than that these days. Agree with the service, and of all the spots to eat, particularly in Sosua, your place is top tier for customer service. Seldom going even 10 minutes without being asked by a staff member if everything is good. Back home now after a great visit, thanks for the hospitality. Hope to be back this summer.
I’m so glad I came across your video! I wanna go back and you just stated all the facts.. the country has not changed since I left back in 1995! But it’s ok it’s better than the states now 😂
