Excellent review. Just for the benefit of the viewers, I would like to share some info regarding the Altis 1.6L engine. Despite being reliable, most Altis 1.6L 1ZR-FE engine units have one major flaw, and that is a cold start rattle that can occur at any stage of ownership. It is caused by a failing VVTI Actuator/cam gear. The rattle sound is just for a second only when started cold. Most owners who have experienced this problem have driven their vehicles in excess of 100,000 kms without any problem, but some- although a minority- have experienced engine failures. The VVTI cam gear assembly replacement is a very costly job, which can run into at least two lakh rupees, and the Toyota dealerships will usually avoid carrying out the repairs. This problem is also prevalent in the 1.8L 2ZR-FE Grande as well since both these engines belong to the same ZR family. Hence, that is why local Toyota dealerships recommend a thicker 5w-50 Taglon oil to 'mask' the rattle and reduce any potential damage that might occur in the long run. Those owners who have not yet experienced this issue may continue to use the recommended 5w-30/10w-30 oil. However, thicker oil does put a strain on the VVTI mechanism and thus reduce fuel economy. Yaris 1.3 and 1.5 engines belong to the NR engine family and are thus more reliable and use 5w-30 oil as a standard recommended oil. Despite being reliable, some initial Yaris owners have reported problems associated with the Alternator and fan belt.

@@AutoPak This cold start rattle issue has affected many different variants of Toyota vehicles, ranging from Corollas to Camrys to Rav4s. The majority verdict is that it will not inhibit the engine's performance. It all depends on the extent of the damage and accumulated mileage doesn't play a role. A vehicle with less mileage might have more damage in the vvti actuators as compared to a vehicle having more mileage. I have owned a 2017 Altis 1.6L Facelift. My car started giving me. this sound at 11000 kms , and that's when I shifted from 5w30 to 5w50 which has helped dampened the cold start rattle noise. In most cases, replacing the timing chain tensioner, might solve the rattling problem. But in majority of cases, it's the VVTi actuator. Please refer to the 2009 Toyota Technical Service Bulletin T-SB-0087-09 for more information on the 1.8L 2ZR-FE engine. Same would apply to the 1.6L variant as well as it also belongs to the ZR series engine..

Yaris is better option considering the traffic in our country. Altis is better for long commutes where you need cruising performance. Altis is a nightmare to drive and safely maneuver in town where most of our driving occurs. Its about priority.
I drove altis yesterday on gt road and went from Islamabad to gujrat, Comfort of drive is excellent(eats gt road bumps), soundproofing is good, seat comfort is not great, Posture adjustment is ok. But it was a nightmare to drive and park in the city.
you are absolutely right . But Yaris is better in petrol average and so smarter in city.

Just for information, CVT is also an old tech, originally developed in 1879 by Milton Reeves but could never get poparity until initially Nisan choose to use this and followed by othet Japanese manufacturers. But even Japanese use this in low and mid range models. All japanese high end cars come with conventional auto. Further, 1.5 yaris with cvt and light body gives only slightly better mileage in cities as compared to altis 1.6 usually 11 vs 13 in Lahore which accounts for around 700 to 2000 rupee difference per month. That is because, in 7 speed cvt vs 4 speed auto, the gear rario range for slow driving in cities is same while only over drive gears are addded in 7 speed for longer journeys. And one more important point, altis has a bigger block engine with less vibration.
Yaris is the best option in security features and Petrol average.
The only problem is that the front looks like sh*t

If u want comfort chose corlla, and if u aant family car chose corlla ,if u want sporty speed go for yaris, but i think corlla is better
