I really enjoyed the video. Timmy's a good guy (he's Greek), and he dives right into the culture. Cubans are really good people overall- very communal and fun-loving.
Recommended viewing, if you're in the mood for something casual. Timmy meets numerous potential girlfriends, but ultimately decides he has content-creating work to do and must move on.
Meanwhile, we need to end the brutal U.S. sanctions on Cuba. U.S. sanctions legally threaten not only U.S. companies that dare do business with this "enemy," but other countries who do business with Cubans as well. The sanctions have enormously exacerbated poverty, which is (always) their intention. Cuba is an island which has no natural resources of note other than sugar, so it's dependent on trade. The government started a massive organic farming program in the 90's, which helped a lot, but still, especially after COVID, people are struggling.
That's the "free market," we're told. So free. I support actually free exchange of goods and services globally, which would mean *ending all U.S. sanctions.* They're a primary tool in the global war on the poor.

Thanks Timmy! You're learning about Cuba fast. Ha! So many great exchanges, but my favorite was the girl, "Tan alto eres!" and you said "mucha leche de madre, mi amor." That made me laugh out loud. I'm stealing that one for sure. You have a gift for gab, my friend. Looking forward to more Cuba vids. As you can see, Cubans are some of the best talkers on the planet. Here's to many more weird Cuban conversations, acere!
The stupid street hustlers are called 'jiniteros'. Sadly, talking to tourists is the only way to make money on the island. So making friends with tourists is big business. One funny way to shut them down -- they will always ask where you are from (and then usually say they have a brother that lives there) so they can try to sell you something or latch onto you. Tell them you are from "la cuevita", "La Lisa" or "Marianao". These are rough parts of havana that tourists don't usually know about.
Callejon de Hamel is fun on Sunday afternoons. Yoruba, rumba drumming street party. it's near your place. Take the ferry to Regla for 1 Cuban peso. Guanabo is the beach where all the young broke havana kids go to party on weekends. It's scummy and fun party. Most of those classic american cars are collectivo taxis. You can wave them down and get in, crammed in with other Cubans. The shiny pretty old cars are for rent to tourists. Rent by the hour in the parque central. Find out where the big name Cuban Salsa orchestras are playing. Shows start late, after midnight. Avoid any show called 'buena vista social club' it's a tourist scam.
Real Cuban cigars are expensive and sold in government shops in the hotels. Cohibas on the street, or anywhere else aside from the official shops are always, always, always fake. Don't get scammed. You CAN get the cigars that the cubans smoke, called 'tabacos', in the neighborhood government bodega. These are real cuban cigars for real Cuban people, without the fancy wrappers and boxes. Super cheap. They come in a plain white wrapper. Ask someone to take you to a bodega for tabacos cubanos.

Cuban people are absolute well hearted. Travel to Cuba is not for holidays unless you miss empathy. How could someone enjoy being in a place where people suffer in so many levels afterwards? I was studying in Miami right before my first and only visit to Cuba and I had a talk while in Miami with an Uber Cuban female driver in her 50s (many Cubans migrated to Miami at the beginning of the special period as called when the embargo started) about Cuba, Fidel and life there and believe me she was in tears of how Cuban people are treated from the converment. Walls have ears as they say and freedom is an unknown word there. You must read a lot about Cuban history before visiting this heaven on earth place as Columbus described it in order to connect the dots. It is a cultural travel and for sure it will change your life prespective. Timmy you did an amazing documentary, 100% accurate to the situation there. I wish the best for Cuban people and hopefully better days to come for all of them. Φιλιά πολλά από Ελλάδα.

Timmy, I have enjoyed your other videos from other Latin American countries, but these videos on Cuba I’ve really enjoyed (seeing as I’m Cuban). I envy you, I last saw my country as a child, 52 years ago. BTW the old cars from the 1950s are called a”almendrones,” Cuba used to be a well to do country with nice buildings, now sadly all dilapidated and falling down 😢. I never lose hope of seeing it free one day, and maybe it will again be a nice place to live in. Still has beautiful natural sites and people are still nice, by and large (though some people can be a little fresh and low class), most people are friendly though, hope that doesn’t change. What the old man said is unfortunately not true any longer, Havana is mostly safe, but criminal activity is on the upswing , especially scammers (Ike the dude that swore he knew you) 🤔and not all places are safe, use your judgement. Stay safe!

I don’t post these things cause i put Cuban people above money and views. Trust me if i upload all my Cuban footage and do what he did - im gonna send so many poor people in prison same way he did! Sorry but I cant sleep knowing that i made $10k over a guy who resells cigars illegally out of necesity and then exposing him on a video and send him to prison for 20 years! I was in Cuba just 2 months ago and actually stayed in the same casa and the same room as you're (I recognized the entry and the steep stairs immediately, however it was really nice there! Is one foot of the bed still broken? haha).
Like you said in the beginning, when you first arrive in La Habana all feels like a crazy fever dream. Everything is so different from our normal life than anything I ever experienced. Although I prepared and informed myself a lot before my travel, but it took me 2-3 days to kind of realize what is actually going on. I travled the country for 16 days and I met so many very nice people, made some friends, saw the absolute beatuy of the Cuban nature, but also the unimaginable hardship of live there and in the countryside, the pollution, the fear, the concerns about the future... even just where to find food for the next day...
I'm so glad to have had the opportunity to make this experience because it showed me how thankful I can be of where I live and where I was born. With our daily struggles in our "civilized" and modern world, we often forget how good we actually live and how fortunate we are. Fortunate to just go in a store and buy different food other than canned olives... or just go to the tap and fill a glass of water which you can actually drink...
Btw just one tip, when you leave through the entrance of the casa to the left, and then directly left again down the street, you will find in like 300m a big "shopping center" with food stores downstairs. I had the luck that they had water, which was hard enough to find...
Best of luck on your journey, I hope this country will leave something positive with you as well, despite all the negatives ✌

Those public phones were not from the USSR (Soviet Republic) as their phones were very antiquated up until the break-up. My guess the phones were made in Canada by Northern Telecom who made all the phones for Bell Canada. Canada has always been open to trade with Cuba since Fidel Castro came into power. And looking at the phones, they were similar to the payphones that you would have found on the streets of Toronto in the 1980's.

How does the embargo complicate humanitarian assistance? Gail Reed, public health specialist, journalist and founder of the Medical Education Cooperation with Cuba (MEDICC) highlights that "the US embargo has dire consequences for Cubans, endangering the health and well-being of women and children." Its complex licensing requirements effectively prevent food, medicine and medical equipment from reaching Cubans. They discourage the sale of medical equipment to the island, which led to the cancellation of the sale of ventilators by a Swiss company to Cuba during the pandemic. Regulatory requirements also impose onerous challenges to the provision of humanitarian assistance. These restrictive policies make it extremely difficult to send aid to Cuba for fear of running afoul of the US Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control and incurring heavy fines
