You're right, they don't have. Buildups are 90's thing. But guy is really good in howtos. And he shows more IDM way of composition than pure synthwave.

I'm going to be honest, I've been using synthwave and outrun as an inspiration for a lot of my music for a while, but Im always looking to see how I can get that classic 80's pop sound. So far Ive always been let down on synthwave tutorials because the final product is always soulless and merely sounds like it was that TH-camr's first time trying it. I was hooked for every section of this video and the final product floored me, because its short but still has heart. Insta-subbed
TH-cam just took a nose dive for me and its showing a ton of errors. I fixed the issue, but of course theyre saying itll take a few hours to trim a bunch of dead space.

Great that you showed the bass layers. For my personal taste it has to much modern music elements (beside "the Midnight" vocals are rarely used, as well as a snare build ups).
