Once upon a time, Kirin had no monkeys snapping its horn off and Gypceros had no spiders flaying the skin off it. Rathalos and Diablos/Monoblos were the toughest wyverns in town long before brutes like Deviljho supplanted them, and Lao Shan was one of the most imposing creatures to see before elders started getting much bigger. Fatalis still rules the roost, but its first showing wasn't quite the nightmare we met in Iceborne. Always nice to go back and see how things were.

@@riemaennchen There are two Schools of thought. One Group think Plesioth is less anoying then Cephadrome, the other say, yeah but Cephadrome is easyer, and you don't need his Stuff for much. So hes better for beeing less present.
Maybe I just sucked but tri was pretty slow for me. It used to take me between 30 and 40 minutes to kill a rathalos when I was farming its armor for instance.
After watching this playthrough, Josh's refusal to properly gear and supply for hunts in World and Rise makes sense. He comes from this era, where every potion and steak was a chore to get, so you had to make do with what you could find and what the supply box gave you. And the thieving Felynxes and monsters, that too discouraged bringing a full layout.
I already hated Cephedrome and Gypceros from Gen Ult but to see the OG version of these two makes me question on how the hell did people who played it when it first came out and how did people keep going after that damn sand shark and that damn poison chicken? Like wow, but really this is fun to watch you guys play this, it's very interesting on how this game really changed from this
from someone who played Monster hunter freedom unite, just imagine OG Tigrex, I have PTSD from that fucker. The OG games where hard as hell. Ppl might complain with there rose coloured glasses and whine how it has become easy and it has for OG players but not new. This is their chance to help the new players because you can breez through the game and their struggling. I didn't have internet nor have many friends that played the games with me so I get so happy when I see a new player and I am willing to teach them everything! Just because they have it a little easier doesn't mean a thing to me.
@@TheSpaShadow I feel games in general were harder then. I also feel it was artificial difficulty due to bad AI and/or controls. In a weird way I miss the carnage from MH1 and 2.
We had bows. You're not supposed to stick to a single weapon when it's ineffective in a hunt, like a slow moving greatsword against a fast moving Gtypceros.
@@batfan2291 I can agree with this now. I've recently gone back to FU on my Vita. The game feels borderline unplayable with the camera being controlled with the D-pad and no lock on.
@@TyrBarghest it's crazy how the d pad camera was never an issue at the time. I also find some weapons almost impossible due to muscle memory from the newer games with newer moves even having to press a/circle for the stab move on longsword feels alien now.

Oh My God…this whole mini series feels like an escalation of frustration. Like the first episode was a series of inconvenience, the second with kut ku was brutal frustration, third episode was utter torment and this! I don’t even know what to call this!
To see josh get tortured by a monster he's been berating for years was the most deserved and hilarious video I've seen. Gypceros definitely needs improvement for his fights, but I see why people from 1st gen hate him now. *Atleast Gypceros got what he wanted in the end, he didn't care if he died as long as he got sweet revenge on josh*
26:59 Lance has the highest dps in the first game. It's also by far the best weapon due to it being incredibly broken and unbalanced. It can stun lock almost every monster with ease and the shield offers the best defence in the game.
Flail flash chicken aside, the bullfango in this game are absolutely savages. Who thought it was a good idea to constantly have them charging a hunter like this? It makes for great quality content right here, though. Along with the ominous bullfango constantly in the distance XD

Basically what kingofflames said, you used to actually have to go on quests just to stock up on steaks, meat and potions and ingredients there was so much prep for fighting large monsters that the series doesnt show
Gypceros is that one guy at the tournament who's so good at Street Fighter, he has to use Dan just to have a chance at losing. And he _still_ pulls the most stylish combos this side of Devil May Cry. Who the fuck _moonwalks_ after a tail slap?
Watching these has given me a bit of an idea for balancing the new games against the old ones. One of the larger complaints you hear is that being able to restock so easily and completely makes quests far too easy. Personally I sorta ride the line on that one, but I was thinking of a sort of compromise between new hunters and old. Rather than being able to restock all of your items at once infinitely during the quest, you instead choose a group of items to be supplied to you once. You start with your selected items in the item box, and those are the only ones you get to grab until either the monster dies or you get game over. For instance (and this is just a prototype idea), you get to select five to seven items, with stronger items being more limited than weaker items. You're only allowed to restock five mega potions, but you can get a full ten regular potions, you only get two megademon/adamant drug, but five regular demon/adamant. So it gives you freedom of choice as to what you find more important, while attempting to retain the ability of monsters to actually chip at your healthpool.
I think another way of doing this would be assigning a value to every item, and having a maximum value you can bring. So let's say you can have 20 value worth of items, and maybe Mega Potions are 1 each, so if you bring 10 Mega Potions you have 10 "value" left to bring more things, say a max potion costs 3, and an ancient costs 4. So with 20 slots of "value", you can bring 10 mega, 2 max and 1 ancient potion(s) but no more.

There are some complaints I disagree with, like the being able to walk while drinking a potion making the game easier. In World/Iceborn you lose that item if you get hit in the middle of it, and the animation itself is much slower than the flex, and the flex instantly replenishes the full value of the potion in one go (plus I could point out that leaving the zone used to be a viable option lmao). However, I do agree that infinite restock was probably a bad idea, and really doesn't make much logical sense, unless you believe the handler is secretly stronger than you are and can carry your entire items box wherever she goes.

I also never got the complaints for the moving while drinking, it really didn't make it easier at all. Even Dark Souls has made a similar change from the first games, and those games are still tough.
Make it that you can restock only in the first minute of the quest, this way you can restock only if you forgot to bring something before the quest (like cool drinks and stuff). Make it a quality of live and no more.
This series is bringing back all kinds of memories for me. I can't say I miss the jankiness of MH1, but some elements of it are irreplaceable in terms of nostalgic value for me. In particular, while the Swamp was kind of a crap zone, I nonetheless loved the dark, murkiness of it, the coldness in the caves that I swore I could actually FEEL, and most of all that mournful intro theme and lonely environmental ambience. Nothing can replace for me the experience of exploring and hunting in this zone in the dead of night, with no other sounds or light in my house other than what was being produced by my TV and PS2 as I played this game. I truly miss those days, now nearly 20 years gone.

Seeing all this I gotta say the OG Monster Hunter has a lot of Monsters that I would put on my "Worst Monster" list. Gypceros, Cephadrome, the Raptor Dromes, Khezu, Kirin, Gravios, Basarios (although he got better in Rise) and especially Plesioth. Rathalos, Rathian, Yian Kut-Ku, Dia/Monoblos and Fatalis are pretty much the only Monsters in this game that I don't mind.
Same, although if they bring Plesioth back in the next main game, I hope they keep his gravity defying hip check, not only for the meme, but because I want to see newer people experience what we've all felt for YEARS
The hate for this fight is so funny after years of hating on it and he finally got his revenge after years of insults xD he's a weird one but i always liked his weird tricks, stretchy tail, flast bomb, fakes it's own death and poison he's well armed but squishy and Derpy but he has so much personality and they put so much into him as such a unique monster, loving these videos :)
I remember beating Gypceros on MH back on the PS2 for the first time, simply because I was at the other end of the zone healing and a Bullfango killed it for me. Also, Cotton's little rant about the Cephadrome hunt being annoying fell kinda limp as I know Plesioth is coming up soon. You wanna see something swimming out of range for 45 minutes then boy is that gonna be the quest for you.
I remember in MH3U I was trying to capture a Qurupeco and pitfall trapped it, but EVERY Tranq Bomb I threw went clean over it, and it escaped. (Dropping Tranq Bombs in place actually was a new thing in MH4!)
Also there is a private server for this game, I don't know which one you guys playing the PS2 version or the Portable, but if it PS2 version then get it on so you guys can play coop, if it Portable 1 then you already know Hunsterverse has it.
I kind of wish now monster investigation started with buying the book and when you buy the book you get your tracking bug which fills it out with the locational info and tracking and monster history that unlocks as you slay more of them and then when you have filled the book it unlocks the monsters next level /Apex/tempered etc.
i hope Monster Hunter World 2 takes place in the Old World. (lately it feels like my thoughts don't matter. perhaps someone will read this one.) i want to see maps like the Verdant Hills, the Marshlands, the Fortress, the Old Swamp and other maps in HD along with a *european forest map. i would also like for certain monsters returning like Fatalis, Lao Shan Lung (Ashen, too. because his SnS. perhaps he'll breathe fire?), Shogun Ceanataur, Shen Gaoren and even low tier monsters like Gypceros and Cephadrome along with some monsters from the New World (like Anjanath, Jyuratodus and *Blackveil Vaal Hazak). i don't care what you say. to me, the Old World isn't complete without Fatalis. the least Capcom could do is add him in a Master Rank expansion like they did in Gen U (he wasn't in Generations, but they added him in Gen U, like Lao). *remember the concept art of the Jaw Wyvern? it was in a map that looked like a european forest (hence why i want to see such a map. not to mention i've yet to see one in the main series) and the Wyvern itself resembles Blackveil Vaal Hazak. in fact, i believe Blackveil IS the Jaw Wyvern; Capcom (knowingly or unknowingly) made it into an elder dragon and thus we got Blackveil Vaal Hazak.
If World 2 happens I'd be alright with it being in the old world. But with that said, the intriguing part of the new world is that it's... well... it's new. There are likely still a lot of places they could add to it, new locations and undiscovered creatures. Maybe a game taking place some time after world that showcases the progress made in colonizing it thanks to the efforts of the research comission. Alternatively you could have a game that has the player jumping between old and new world locations. They already di a wee bit of that with the return to Shrade. Personally what I want to see come back is underwater combat. Gen3 only scratched the surface of what that could be, and combining that with the enhanced movement and increased verticality of World and Rise, I think, could result in a truly special experience. I'd even be okay with them not putting Lagiacrus in Rise if it meant he came along with the glorious return of water combat.
It's so annoying whe it does the running everywhere attack, and he always goes to areas with hundreds of thousands of Bullfangoes. Every small monsters here is so annoying 😂
So josh here is an idea for a top 5 video. Top 5 strongest hunter protagonist. Ranking them from the strongest hunter from each village. Imo World hunter and 4u hunter are closely tied but world comes out on top. Then 3u and go are closely tied but 3u comes out on top for being handicapped by uw combat. Then rise triumphs yukumo... So World hunter(Sapphire Star) 4u hunter (Caravan Hunter) 3u hunter (Moga Hunter) Gu hunter (Wycademy Hunter) Rise hunter (Kamura Hunter)
I was so happy when they made it where the small monsters wouldn't interfere with you carving or fighting the big monster. Nothing worse than having Rhenoplos juggle you while you fight Diablos.
Welcome to a new mini game - Monster Chase! Where if you catch the monster, you get to hit it! This is certainly bringing back all the memories of why I took a huge break after fighting this thing. But oddly enough, gypceros is still one of my favorite monsters.
I love how good the reflection in the water is. Except it does not give a reflection of Josh. Josh = Vampire confirmed. Edit note: OMG I wrote that comment during the Gendrome fight before cotton mentioned the Vampire thing. And then he mentioned the Vampire thing. Also the reason the Gendrome got stronger so fast is that he found the diabolic time chamber and unlocked super saiyan gendrome.
Rubber chicken's AI derped out when you stood right under it. Maybe they could just cheese some of the AI by baiting moves like tail swipes and stationary hops like rathalos'
I propose that after this ordeal is over Josh should, as a form of healing/revenge, fight the monsters that gave him the most shit in their most recent game appearances. Taking full advantage of the better control, movility and QoL
This game somehow managed to get sequels. Don't get me wrong, I'm immensely glad it did, but if you were to have shown this game to me in 2004 I wouldn't have bet on it. lol
Gypceros was a pain in the ass when I played Generations Ultimate. For a low tier monster I can not STAND him. This version of Gypceros would've made me lose my mind.
In my opinion, the only reason why people say "(insert monster name here) is the worst thing since wet socks" is because of mh1 to mhfu's unfair difficulty. I'd argue if mh1 was like the newer games (you know, fair) people wouldn't hate these monsters as much. Cephadrome in my opinion is the biggest example, because in mh1, he never leaves the ground, in the newer games, he does, and is actually somewhat enjoyable, but in the older games he isn't
I honestly DESPISE Gypceros in monster hunter. I love him in stories due to purple's noxious poison. But I think he's ridiculously hard for no reason XD. I struggle with him a lot. I'm not sure why

The hate for this fight is so funny after years of hating on it and he finally got his revenge after years of insults xD he's a weird one but i always liked his weird tricks, stretchy tail, flast bomb, fakes it's own death and poison he's well armed but squishy and Derpy but he has so much personality and they put so much into him as such a unique monster, loving these videos :)

I remember beating Gypceros on MH back on the PS2 for the first time, simply because I was at the other end of the zone healing and a Bullfango killed it for me.
Also, Cotton's little rant about the Cephadrome hunt being annoying fell kinda limp as I know Plesioth is coming up soon. You wanna see something swimming out of range for 45 minutes then boy is that gonna be the quest for you.

I remember in MH3U I was trying to capture a Qurupeco and pitfall trapped it, but EVERY Tranq Bomb I threw went clean over it, and it escaped. (Dropping Tranq Bombs in place actually was a new thing in MH4!)
Also there is a private server for this game, I don't know which one you guys playing the PS2 version or the Portable, but if it PS2 version then get it on so you guys can play coop, if it Portable 1 then you already know Hunsterverse has it.
Gypceros is the flashing light from whatever random thing in the corner of your room you see when your asleep.
Gypceros is just a fraction to chameleo's power to steal all of you're consumables with range.
I kind of wish now monster investigation started with buying the book and when you buy the book you get your tracking bug which fills it out with the locational info and tracking and monster history that unlocks as you slay more of them and then when you have filled the book it unlocks the monsters next level /Apex/tempered etc.

i hope Monster Hunter World 2 takes place in the Old World.
(lately it feels like my thoughts don't matter. perhaps someone will read this one.)
i want to see maps like the Verdant Hills, the Marshlands, the Fortress, the Old Swamp and other maps in HD along with a *european forest map.
i would also like for certain monsters returning like Fatalis, Lao Shan Lung (Ashen, too. because his SnS. perhaps he'll breathe fire?), Shogun Ceanataur, Shen Gaoren and even low tier monsters like Gypceros and Cephadrome along with some monsters from the New World (like Anjanath, Jyuratodus and *Blackveil Vaal Hazak).
i don't care what you say. to me, the Old World isn't complete without Fatalis. the least Capcom could do is add him in a Master Rank expansion like they did in Gen U (he wasn't in Generations, but they added him in Gen U, like Lao).
*remember the concept art of the Jaw Wyvern? it was in a map that looked like a european forest (hence why i want to see such a map. not to mention i've yet to see one in the main series) and the Wyvern itself resembles Blackveil Vaal Hazak. in fact, i believe Blackveil IS the Jaw Wyvern; Capcom (knowingly or unknowingly) made it into an elder dragon and thus we got Blackveil Vaal Hazak.
If World 2 happens I'd be alright with it being in the old world. But with that said, the intriguing part of the new world is that it's... well... it's new. There are likely still a lot of places they could add to it, new locations and undiscovered creatures. Maybe a game taking place some time after world that showcases the progress made in colonizing it thanks to the efforts of the research comission.
Alternatively you could have a game that has the player jumping between old and new world locations. They already di a wee bit of that with the return to Shrade.
Personally what I want to see come back is underwater combat. Gen3 only scratched the surface of what that could be, and combining that with the enhanced movement and increased verticality of World and Rise, I think, could result in a truly special experience. I'd even be okay with them not putting Lagiacrus in Rise if it meant he came along with the glorious return of water combat.

Yep, the reason why it does that because of it's ability to produce and use it's 'power extracts' for mobility and speed.
So josh here is an idea for a top 5 video. Top 5 strongest hunter protagonist. Ranking them from the strongest hunter from each village. Imo
World hunter and 4u hunter are closely tied but world comes out on top.
Then 3u and go are closely tied but 3u comes out on top for being handicapped by uw combat.
Then rise triumphs yukumo...

As a Veteran MH1 player, if you stand still when using tranq bombs you will throw them at your feet rather than forward.

Also the reason the Gendrome got stronger so fast is that he found the diabolic time chamber and unlocked super saiyan gendrome.

Gypceros has always been neutral for me since I never fought it in a main game, but this only got me to like it😅

In my opinion, the only reason why people say "(insert monster name here) is the worst thing since wet socks" is because of mh1 to mhfu's unfair difficulty. I'd argue if mh1 was like the newer games (you know, fair) people wouldn't hate these monsters as much. Cephadrome in my opinion is the biggest example, because in mh1, he never leaves the ground, in the newer games, he does, and is actually somewhat enjoyable, but in the older games he isn't
I honestly DESPISE Gypceros in monster hunter. I love him in stories due to purple's noxious poison. But I think he's ridiculously hard for no reason XD. I struggle with him a lot. I'm not sure why
