I mean Monster Hunter 2 only released in Japan and I suppose there is a reason for that. It really seems like the multiplayer was what saved the game from being completley and utterly panned, and it kinda make sense that this kind of game online was something quite unique in 2004. I think the series has a really cool concept that appeals to a lot of people and that may have helped them a lot lol.

You know, when MH1 veterans were saying "the new games are too easy" I always thought they meant the janky hitboxes, bullshit attacks, or quality of life changes. Nope, apparently, they meant that the monster just flew away and straight-up ignores you for forty minutes straight. This was true monster hunter.

Azure Rathalos in Freedom actually just straight up flies off to an island that you can't reach to sleep until time out once you get its health low enough. The only ways to wake it up are use a bowgun, have saved a throwing knife, or *know there's a hidden mechanic in the game wherein if you press forward and throw at the same time instead of just pressing throw while holding forward, you'll throw stones slightly further*. The game never tells you this. It isn't in the manual. And this mechanic is rarely if ever discussed. This base game Rathalos nonsense is nothing compared to that trolly BS. On a related note, they never stopped adding hidden mechanics over the generations. There's actually a hidden way to knockdown monsters while swinging on vines in World but the setup's such a pain that very few people would ever run into it even after hundreds of hours.
He's done everyone of those things to me back then. It's nice to see someone getting to experience this shit raw and wonder just how in the hell did this franchise get the support it needed to keep going LOL

The second to last Monster I actually managed to take down back in the day. Afterwards I only killed Rathian and everything else available was just to much for me.

honestly i love how they fly in circles before choosing a zone, in generations ultimate they just fly straight to the next zone and you can just watch the shadow. and landing on background stuff is super cool attention to detail. i just wouldnt like either THAT frequently
I'm dying. 🤣 This has to be one of the funniest Rathalos hunts I have ever witnessed. Even from my experiences with him is Freedom, Freedom 2 and Freedom Unite on the PSP I still found myself saying 'What are you doing Rathalos!'

I remember there was a particullar rathalos who flew from 9 to 6, patiently waited at 6 and then flew back instantly to 9 when i landed on the bottom grounds. We veterans knew patience.
After watching the few episodes of the first monster hunter it seems it's the most realistic, if you hit monster with big sword it dont wanna deal with you and will leave

@@mark1A100 Khezu and Diablos were definitely unlockables in single player, but monoblos was technically the PS2 MH1 final boss of the village story. Edit: just looked it up and the gravios was another unlockable monster in village

The good days of either getting a Grayburg Javelin or Babel Spear until you could switch to a BDS and just headlocking The Land and Sky quest for plates...
Ideally you use traps and tools to make the hunt go faster and also go to where the monster is going instead of chasing its tail. And for certain monsters you use weapons explicitly geared for fighting them, like lance for Gravios/Basarios or hammer for Cephadrome. They aren't doing this. Presumably because they don't want to grind supplies or parts for multiple weapons. I don't know whether the bad pathing is deliberate for entertainment's sake or just they're too used to being able to catch monsters though.
From the beginning, until the latest. Rathalos is pain. Though from generations his moves improved, the pain he gifts is just nerfed by a minuscule amount.
I just got to Rathalos a few days ago on my MH1 playthrough, I've fought him a couple times already but haven't managed to beat him yet. After carting twice on my second attempt, I managed to make him limp, but I got too greedy and kept attacking him, and he stopped running away and started attacking again and carted me by leaping backwards into the air and dropping a fireball beneath him. On the plus side, this is the farthest I've ever made it in this game.
It was pretty niche even in Japan up until it went to psp, then it got fairly popular! I agree though, I don't think I could play the og MH with using the right stick for attacking 😂

Was revisiting this let's play because I'm bored, but the topic I wish to bring up is the use of the Jurassic Park 3 Spino roar, JP3 was my favorite movie from that franchise and hearing it used in Monster Hunter makes it sound really awesome, to the point where I wish they would use those roars for a brand new monster and make it really badass design wise, combined with the Spino roars and sounds, could make for a very intimidating and awesome monster
You should buy a horn. It can sometimes attract large monsters when you use it. Very useful if you lose contact. Blow it in an area where the monster often goes for a higher chance of success.
I honestly don’t remember rathalos or gypceros being that evasive. The gypceros was definitely all over an area with his running, but moving between areas wasn’t ever that big of an issue. Maybe lancing jut calls brings different AI in the monsters. Lol

Rathalos in the volcano locale in mh1 was a PAIN. If you didn't kill it before it slept to heal and you don't have any ranged supply or weapon, you gotta wait like a minute for it to wake up healed bcs you can't reach the mf, it sleeps in the middle of a lava lake💀

This kinda reminds me of the first time I faced this red jerk in world... EVERYTIME I entered the same zone he flew away! EVERYTIME! I was only able to aggro him with a throwing knife. That was infuriating
I got monster hunter 1 on my playstation 2 after seeing this video, and I have since put over 73 hours into this game, 20 hours ago, I made my first attempt to complete the Attack of Rathalos urgent quest (the quest they do in this video) and I still haven't completed the quest. At first I used sword and sheild, I couldn't even get him to limp, after a few time outs I made a great sword and I grinded for 8 hours to get 70 iron to make the Ravager blade+. As far as I know, this is the strongest greatsword in the game that you can get before rathalos, it has the same damage as the Dragon Agito but more green sharpness. And I have timed out about 7 times, I have been playing aggressively, I've been using traps and flash bombs all with no success. If anyone has any tips or strategies please tell me them.

In MHFU, you can beat rathalos pretty much easily with a lvl 3 charge of a great sword to the tail and wing, after that it's dead.

Lol. Khezu was some endgame bullshit in MH1. He was up there with Diablos as extra quest monsters once you beat the main big baddie, the Monoblos!

This was a very different game experience from what I started with. Man has the difficulty bin ultered in the best way.
So in this game it is every monster's purpose to make a hunt as drawn out and frustrating as possible. I can only imagine what plesioth will be like.

This kinda reminds me of the first time I faced this red jerk in world... EVERYTIME I entered the same zone he flew away! EVERYTIME! I was only able to aggro him with a throwing knife. That was infuriating
I got monster hunter 1 on my playstation 2 after seeing this video, and I have since put over 73 hours into this game, 20 hours ago, I made my first attempt to complete the Attack of Rathalos urgent quest (the quest they do in this video) and I still haven't completed the quest.
At first I used sword and sheild, I couldn't even get him to limp, after a few time outs I made a great sword and I grinded for 8 hours to get 70 iron to make the Ravager blade+. As far as I know, this is the strongest greatsword in the game that you can get before rathalos, it has the same damage as the Dragon Agito but more green sharpness. And I have timed out about 7 times, I have been playing aggressively, I've been using traps and flash bombs all with no success. If anyone has any tips or strategies please tell me them.
