"Lodi" a smash hit single and a track off the 'Green River' album released back in 1969 by C.C.R. has a smooth vibe and worth checking out. 🔍The song describes the plot of a down-and-out musician whose career has landed him playing gigs in the town of Lodi, Calif. After playing in local bars, the storyteller finds himself stranded and unable to raise bus or train fare to leave. One of C.C.R.'s finest recordings. 🎤🎸🥁🔊🔥☮📻🎧
That is such a fantastic song! And a band I was in performed it many times live, so much fun.
CCR influenced every efin body
This version makes you feel like you are rollin' on the river. Tina Turner's cover made you feel you are in a whirlpool!
Tina and Ike took ownership of this song
Both bands have a guitar sound but N is grunge, CCR Is rock with a sprinkle of Americana.
I believe he was talking about the main reminded him of a Nirvana song, not that they sounded exactly alike.
Turner's version was too frantic. IMO
It was better!!!
Tina still made it her own especially in her Live performances thru her life as kind of a signature song for Tina. Frantic though meant a bit derogatory.... is actually in a Live performance what we want and Tina could always deliver. Of course, both versions became Iconic and offer different taste that does not make one version far less and timeless both.
Even for Dolly Parton's song I will always Love You.... had Whitney Houston do what you might call more frantic. Still, Whitney also made it her own and both Dolly's and Whitney's are Iconic. Both versions highlight how different artist can take songs to different directions that work.
Some do not realize where Johnny Cash's version of Hurt came from. The writer and original song performance could not be any different and Johnny clearly made it his own and Iconic. Plenty songs got sampled again by new artist with their own slant and even word changes to songs continuing the song's lasting power.
Music is often "sampled" so it's possible a few notes in other songs came from before. CCR is a great band can spend hours listening. They tell a story, evoke a feeling that fits the lyrics.
Thanks for remembering my wise crack observation.
Love Fogerty with ccr and solo..
Saw him 3 times and gives an energetic concert even today..
He served in Nam and many believed this music is what military listened to during that war..
Try bootleg, long version of chooglin,,green river, run thru the jungle, and long version of heard it through the grapevine, thanks
John Fogerty never served in Vietnam, he joined the reserve.....
@@love-vy1ry you are correct,pardon me….
Both CCR's version and Tina's version are awesome. It doesn't have to be one or the other. I'm sure John Fogerty agrees.
Nirvana? Yeah, no doubt. I'm the same age as Cobain would be were he alive. I taught myself how to play guitar around 1980 faking it through songs by Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, The Who, and Creedence, more or less. And between "Bad Moon Rising", "Green River", and "Born On A Bayou" I think it's highly likely Cobain jammed on some of their songs at some point when he was a teenager. The bass sure was turned up loud in that mix of the song. It nearly overpowered everything else. Remember, these songs also sounded good blasting from a two inch speaker on a hand held transistor radio tuned to an AM station.
Cobain reportedly wrote the song “About a Girl” after listening to the “Meet the Beatles” album for hours on end, and it shows.
I'm won't bet that any of the three Nirvana's members knew a shit about music in those times. I mean "to know about music" in all of its meanings: history, playing instruments, reading a score, famous names, names that mark a milestone in the history of music or anything more complex than 4/4. They probably think that JAZZ was an adverb...
With all props to Tina, John Fogerty wrote this song before she covered it in her dark days fronting for Ike.
The greatest thing they do is out you in the location and make you feel like you're part of the story. This is part of what i call their friendly collection. Other examples are Up Around the Bend, Green River, and Willie and the Poor Boys (down on the corner).
Hello Ace, if u really like this song, i heard it through the grapevine, by CCR' Its one of their best hits' these were my early teen years' creedance Clearwater Rival, you can never get bored of them' 😊
👍👍Great performance by CCR. 🖖❤
My first exposure to CCR. I bought the single.
Nirvana was in the beginning a CCR tribute band. There is a photo of a young Kurt Cobain on his room with a box filled with LP's the first is Cosmo's Factory
Green River is a great song, John said it's his favorite song of theirs and I would agree.
Check out Ray Stevens "Mississippi Squirrel Revival". 😂
CCR! Classic! This is the first Creedence time I've ever heard, so by virtue of that, it's my favorite of theirs--but there aren't any CCR songs I don't like! Ike & Tina's version is good, but the original is still the greatest! I love CCR's music because it's pretty much simple, straightforward rock-'n'-roll; guitars, bass and drums...with some additional piano/keys and percussion here and there, little or no frills. To answer your question about the influence on Nirvana, there's no doubt in my mind. In fact, I can't think of any American rock band who hasn't been influenced by CCR in the last 55 years.
Sorry, autocorrect replaced the word "tune" with "time"...
Yeah I love that part as well. And I can think of a couple Nirvana songs that have the main riff or hooks kind of in the neighborhood of the ones in this song, but can't quite put my finger on them.
I bet you would really like their hit Lodi.
This song takes me back to the Mississippi River and the paddle boats. It is true swamp rock at its finest. You should try and contact Dave Grohl who was in Nirvana and see if he can give you any input regarding who influenced them. He might be willing to talk or share his insight
Decades ago there was a wedding where this song was dedicated to the Bride and Groom. When it started playing *every single person in the wedding party* jumped to their feet and started dancing. It didn't take long to completely overfill the dancefloor and there was dancing in the food line, at the bar and everywhere in between. Nobody could sit still. :D Excellent song.
❤❤❤❤❤
NIRVANA (grunge) influenced by CCR (southern/blues/country rock)??? Sorry, certainly not!
Believe it or not CCR were one of the bands they were influenced by.Leadbelly also or at least Kurt Cobain was.Dave Grohl more than likely was too Nirvana Unplugged "Where did you sleep last night"
@@MrMCCONNELL74 There is influence and influence. KURT has repeated many times, in interviews, that he was mainly influenced by the BEATLES... and yet, it is hardly very perceptible when listening. That is what I meant about the reference to CCR. Best regards.
David Grohl is a friend of John Fogerty

David Grohl (Nirvana’s drummer) and Kurt Cobain drew inspiration from many acts including the Gap Band and Lead Belly so it’s possible.
Never heard of a CCR influence on Nirvana...yeah I also prefer this version to Turner's. CCR is one of the top three American bands ever.
CCR hit #2 in the US while Tina hit #3 so it was close in sales.
One of my favorites to
This was a CCR song until Tina Turner did a cover of it after that John Fogerty even said it was Tina's song now.
Tina’s cover is pure sex.
It’s CCR’s song
@@PastLifeVillian not anymore!
@@themajicman745 Their version is simply better. You just heard the Tina version first
@@PastLifeVillian Well the way I look at it is if the guy who wrote the song says it was Tina's now, then I'll take his word over yours.🤣🤣🤣🤣
