  • Michael Jordan goes off for 35 points in the first half of game one of the 1992 NBA Finals.
    Jordan hit six treys in the first half, and after the sixth, shrugged his shoulder in disbelief - one of the most memorable moments in NBA history.
    MJ finished with 39 on the night and the Bulls dominated Portland.

      +Art Vandalay Jordan would never score 35pts in a half on Pippen. Clyde wasn't defensively on Jordan or Pippen's level.

      jordan scored against any defense............ if he can score 30 or 40 plus against the bad boys; he can score against anybody

    • @arsonhakobyan
      @arsonhakobyan 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yeah, I agree! Just not that many in a half against the Bad Boys. Jordan would've gone off for 60+ in this game if it wasn't such a blow out, and Phil played him the whole game. But he smartly rested Jordan much of the 2nd half, seeing how the rest of the Bulls were dismantling the Blazers in the 3rd period, and knowing that he needed #23 fresh as possible for the rest of the series against a pretty solid Blazers' squad. Jordan really set the tone in this game, and then the rest of the Bulls, led by Scottie Pippen, just overwhelmed Portland w/ their suffocating defense & transition game coming out of the locker room for the 2nd half. I really think the 92' Blazers would've beaten about 75% of the Finals winning teams in NBA history, but these 92' Bulls didn't win 67 games for nothing. It was a tougher NBA in 92' than in 96', w/o expansion, less free agency & a tad further 3-pt line (something the Bulls liked to shoot relative to their era), so I would go as far as to say that the 92' Bulls could've given the 96' record-breaking 72 win team a run for their money, despite winning 5 fewer games. I don't know if I can say that the 92' team was better than the 96' one, as the one in 96' possibly lost a game or two due to boredom along the way, as lopsided of scores as they were routinely beating opponents by. But the 92' Bulls were definitely the best of the 1st 3-peat, had Jordan, Pippen & Grant in their athletic primes, and would not be intimidated by the 96' Bulls.

      Jordan scored 63 in their 2nd playoff game (44 in their 1st) against the #1 Defense in the NBA, and eventual Champions: The '86, Larry Bird led, Boston Celtics.

      @Lisa Rose indeed but Lebrons era is all offense and hardly any defense...Jordan dominated in a far more physical era..this was when the NBA finals was at the height of its popularity during the Jordan era ..combined with the energy of that crowd ..Amazingly Unmatched to this day

      @Jason5818UI 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Lisa Rose yeah Abdul-Rauf was a beast no doubt and he was very quick and that was against the 72-10 Bulls but no team is invincible everyone has an off night Mutombo was also a contributing factor to that win ..also MJ still scored 39 points and next game a month later the bulls beat them 108-87 and MJ scored his usual minimum of 30 points and the defense was rolling on all cylinders that night

    For all of you new school babies on here, these YT vids dont do MJ justice of how much of an impact he's had on our society. You've had to have been alive and a bball fan to experience it. Dont get it twisted, Lebron, Kobe, KD, Wade, etc are holding it down for today's NBA, But all of them put together haven't even touched MJ's status. These highlights and the shoes is a footnote to what MJ was (and is).

      True words. This man is responsible for making basketball popular around the world before social media was even a thing. I was born in west Africa and was a teenager in the 90s, he was so popular that back then they started to broadcast his games on TV in my country even though soccer is our number one sport. Kids over there that played soccer all their lives suddenly started to play basketball and wanted a Michael Jordan jersey. Watching these videos on youtube is cool and brings back memories but it'll never do justice to live in that time.

    1.It was a play after Drexter air balled.

    3.Jordan shrugged after the shot like he didn't know what the hell was going on that night.

    From 6:14-8:27: My favorite sequence of this video. The Pippen steal (Crowd gets LOUD) leading to a fast break and eventually a Jordan put-back dunk (Crowd gets *EVEN* louder). The Drexler airball (Crowd remains INSANELY loud), followed by the 6th and final Jordan three-pointer (The crowd *BLOWS* THE ROOF OFF OF CHICAGO STADIUM) ... From there, "Rock & Roll Pt. 2" kicks in, and the fans are going nuts throughout the entire timeout - Incredible. Thanks to ForEmily23 for leaving all that in.

    Marv actually gave the backstory leading up to the iconic Shrug, media was coming with the angle of a Jordan-Drexler rivalry and they basically tried to imply that Drexler has the better three point shooting.
    Well BAD IDEA because you just gave probably the most competitive athlete that set foot on the basketball court a GOAL to pursue.

    • @tyleru96
      @tyleru96 8 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Yep. I think Jordan responded to the media saying Drexler was the better 3-point shooter by saying something along the lines of, "He's a better shooter than I choose to be." In other words, he was about to put on a show.

    One of the many things I always thought was awesome about MJ was when he would single handedly take over a game & force a time-out by the opponent, he would calmly sit on the bench and help give instructions to his teammates to help them all keep playing at a high level. In the five seasons leading up to this game, Drexler averaged just under 29 ppg on 51.4% shooting along with 7.5 rebounds, 6.25 assists and 2.75 steals in eight games against MJ and the Bulls. Nobody else had that kind of success against Mike, and people were seriously saying Clyde might be in the same class as Jordan.

    The events of the last 2 minutes of this half are probably my favorite in NBA history. Jordan was inhuman and watching him then as a little kid I was jumping up and down and to this day I get goosebumps watching it. No one will ever do it again.

    MJ did that shrug not because he couldn't believe it, but because he couldn't believe how good he was. He's like, why am I so good?

    Poor Danny Ainge. First in '92 Jordan put on a clinic in Gm1, then in '93 Ainge is with Chuckster and the Suns. Jordan shredded them the entire series with 41ppg. OMG. Really, see the boss at work

    Would have loved to see a Jordan Lebron final. I don’t think people realize how how Portland was in those years. I believe Jordan would have dominated.

    The alley-oop dunk At 9:34 is one of the most underrated dunks in NBA history and certainly one of Michael Jordan's most underrated dunks!

    I remember watching this game with my father. In 1992 I was in my early teens, so this was one of those magical moments from Michael Jordan. I truly, truly, truly feel sorry for all of those who didn't witness this live. Watching it now is great, but when it was LIVE, that was something else.
    His domination of the game, his artistry, nobody before or since has even remotely come close. This is when he actually wanted to dominate, and on his nights off he would only average 30 ppg lol.

    Since I never saw the 7 foot Wilt Chamberlain score 100 against a bunch of 5'10 guys this MJ performance is the greatest single game performance of ALL TIME! Even better than the 63 against the Boston Celtics.

      Sean Patrick Well, it is sort of unfair when you're 7'1, 290Lbs. of steel, can bench press 550Lbs., deadlift 625Lbs. & clean & jerk 375Lbs., + got Michael Jordan's explosiveness.
